Mr. Yehoshua's conclusion that if all Jews lived in Israel there would be no anti-Semitism after 50 years because people would not have known the Jews at all is a fallacy. Since when does one have to know Jews to hate them? There are many Jew-haters in the world who have never seen a Jew. How many people in the Arab countries have ever met a Jew? Yet their hatred of us is fierce. For that matter, the rampant anti-Semitism in Europe is not due to the fact that these people have had personal contact with Jews. It's because they 'know', a priori, that Jews and especially Israelis are bad. The comparison with the Tibetans is ridiculous. We have not been brainwashed to hate the Tibetans. It has nothing to do with knowing them or not.

Mr. Yehoshua is correct on one point: Jews should not be afraid of looking at themselves. On the larger point, however, he misses the boat. Anti-Semitism exists only in Christian and Muslim countries, not Hindu and Buddhist countries. The reason is quite simple: Christian scriptures state, quite plainly, that Jews rejected the Christian god, Muslim scriptures state that Jews rejectedt he Muslim god and are his enemies. By contrast, Hindu and Buddhist scriptures are silent about Jews. When Christian and Muslim children are taught that God hates Jews, they will absorb the teaching and many will act on it. The fault is not with the Jews Mr. Yehoshua; the fault is with the gentiles--basically the Christians and the Moslems. With their cruel and racist theology stating only they have the truth, Moslems and Christians have slaughtered others in the name of that truth since their invention. We reject them because we have our own identity, therefore they hate us. Their problem although we must learn to survive around their murderous theology. But not succumb to it.
