Abbas questions Israeli democracy    By Reuters
1. The Philistines Teaching Israel About Democracy?
LOL!
(05.11.05)
2. Interesting!
The Palestinians have always been very quick in criticizing Israel if it, from their point of view, doesn't meet its obligations. Mahmoud Abbas would rather look in his own house first and dismantle Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror organizations. As long as this does not happen any criticism from Abbas can be taken easily.
Matthias Roth ,   Switzerland   (05.11.05)
3. Yet again
This islam is superior to all religions attitude. Israel wants to postpone this for a holiday, but oh no since it's an "infidel religion" it cannot be done. But anything that is claimed holy by Islam supercedes anything else. I'm just waiting for my toilet to be declared the 50th holy site in Islam
(05.11.05)
4. Israel is an apartheid state
A State which destroys more than 400 villages, expels their inhabitants and refuse their return because they are not Jews is an apartheid state. Such a State can never have peace unless it abolishes its apartheid laws against non-Jews, creates one democratic state in Palestine/Israel and treats all its inhabitants equally, regardless of their religion. Let us repeat it day and night: Israel is an apartheid state. Israel is an apartheid state
Sadakah Ve-Shalom ,   Palestine   (05.11.05)
5. why whouldnt they teach u
why wouldnt palestinians teach u about dimocracy!! it is true that hamas is a religious group and Islam is 100% against democracy and ignorance forbids democracy from growing and many other facters forbid arabs from becoming democratic.... but let me tell you one thing ISLAM is the only facter in the whole world preventing democracy..... but most importantly .... religious JEWS are a bigger obstacle
abu arab ,   Jerusalem   (05.11.05)
6. Apartheid?
The real apartheid state would be the state of Palestine, because there is apparently no place for Jews in it. And I repeat again: Arabs accusing Israel of 'Apartheid' is just ridiculous. And repeating a lie over and over again doesn't make it the truth!
Matthias Roth ,   Switzerland   (05.11.05)
7. LOL ....Matthias Roth
i really thought that people in switzerland are not ignorants and they know the truth at least better than others but man u proved to me that the biggest ignorants are in Switzeralnd... if u know at least something about history tell me where was israel before 1948... there was no israel ,Jewis came from Europe and from everywhere to live there and they kicked the poors who were living there to Egypt, lebanon, jordan and some other countries.... shame on u MR Matthias Roth .... have fun..

9. there is no peace with Government like this
I think there will be no peace in the mideast with Sharon . becuase every thing they agree ,he doesn't apply it.

10. Irony
It's ironic that the PA puts its "collaborators" to death, while we elect them to Knesset, and Abbas calls our level of democracy into question.
Shai ,   Israel   (05.11.05)
11. to 9
Yes thats why Abbas has been going off and destroying terror groups/sarcasm
(05.11.05)
12. The PHilistines Teachng Israel About Cemocracy?
Yes Sir. They are doing. Democracy is not heritage of any nation or people. It is a heritage of Humanity. Mr. Abbass was very mannered when he question the Israeli Democracy. His remarks were very specific and responsive. This piece of talk should be addressed to his Excellency the Israeli Minister of Exterior . what he stated in public, is totally against the context of Israeli polictics I we understand and respect.
Metkal I. Hassounah ,   Gaza   (05.11.05)
13. You Pals on the list are Incapable of Independent Thought
Because if you were, you'd take a minute and actually read the Road Map to test whether all the rumors you're spreading about Israelis and Sharon were true. They aren't. The Road Map process hasn't begun yet. If you read the Road Map, you'll find that none of the stages the Palestinians obligated themselves to had been implemented (collecting weapons, dismantling what you call "militants" and creating a single military force), and that even AFTER you negotiated it down to even that (originally, the PA wouldn't have been able to keep the weapons collected). The Palestinians ACTUALLY DOING the things they said they'd do are PREREQUISITES for Israelis actions in the Road Map, because for once everybody realized that it's not the Process but the Peace that's important in the phrase "Peace Process". The Israelis nevertheless conceded to undertake some measures in parallel, such as lifting some road blocks and handing over two Palestinian cities to Palestinian control to help Abbas, because he said he would find it easier to comply with the obligations taken by the Palestinian side if Israel made these "gestures". We even did things that weren't called for, like prisoner releases. We're about to undertake a withdrawal from Gaza and North Samaria, and these weren't called for either at this stage. Well, it's all for naught, isn't it? You pocket gains and give nothing in return over and over again. He still hasn't collected the weapons or dismantled the what we'd call "terrorist" organizations. In fact, Abbas and the PA have said they wouldn't! Moreover, they've offered to house the Palestinian terrorist organizations that are being moved out of Damascus in the surrendered Gaza territories. And, Abbas has acted as though our country's imprimatur was on the agreement he made with the terrorist organizations for the "tahadiye", which is a lull and not a cease fire, and then after having invented our need to comply with it, complains when we don't. I'm just completely fed up with you. You are completely tied up in your "struggle". You wouldn't know what to do if you had a state, and that's why you always do everything to make sure you never get one. Nearly to the last of you, you're irrational in your self-defeatism, your inability to compromise, and your ceaseless bloodlust. As far as I'm concerned, if you want a fight, "bring it on". It won't be an eternal battle. But if you want peace, you've received reasonable terms for forging one. Prove your seriousness by dismantling the terror organizations and collecting the weapons. Vote for a leadership that doesn't go on ceaselessly about Naqba and a million martyrs, rather select one that talks about cooperation and building peace. I doubt you'll do it, but if you do you'll find plenty of hands reaching out in return.
Shai ,   Israel   (05.11.05)
14. Israel is NOT an apartheid state
You must be a fan of Hitlers who believed if you tell a lie often enough people will begin to believe it. I say Palestine is apartheid because no Jews will be allowed. They have to leave. Your facts about villages and population of the area is way off. Another part of the Palestinian propaganda machine. PS- Look up the word Apartheid.
Carol ,   Israel   (05.11.05)
15. Islam Slander
You claim not to publish any responses that includes " incitement", " inappropiate language" or " slander". If so , then why do you publish the filthy language against islam. as in the third responder. May be only if it is against Israel and Jews you won't publish it
kareem ,   USA   (05.11.05)
16. This is Israel's "partner" for peace?
We're supposed to understand Palestinian suffering, when they often deny that Jews ever had a Temple in Jerusalem and further question Israel's motives when disengagement is put off because of the commemoration of the destruction of those Temples? Who are the Palestinians to lecture Israel on democracy? Democracy is about having a choice in picking the leaders who represent your interests, freedom is about being able to express your opinion without fear of reprisal or worse. Is a society that existed under the grip of Arafat and under the influence of terrorist groups committed to taking, not preserving innocent lives the kind of society that should lecture an established democracy? I think not. What kind of democracy is this? The kind of democracy where people are allowed to disagree with each other, to express their opinions freely and where, if a leader does nothing for 1 year, let alone 7 or 8 as was the case with Arafat, the people can replace them PEACEFULLY. Israel's political parties don't have their own militias, the government has an army - according to the law. You can't have two contradictory laws, and several militias (aka terror groups) in a state and expect things to be stable, free and be a responsible member of the world community.

17. WHAT ABOUT SUDAN'S CHRISTIAN SLAVES? SET THEM FREE!
Sudan's jihad has left 2.5 million Christians dead. Hundreds of thousands of Christians have been taken for slaves by Sudan's Muslims. The Christian slaves are subjected to the most horrific satanic abuse. Do the politically correct demand the Christians slaves are set free? No! The hypocrites direct their anger at Jews living on their TINY sliver of land that is Israel.

20. IN REPLY TO #18, LIBYAN GUY
Rather than the U.S. and other countries getting involved, I believe strongly IT IS THE MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRIES WHO SHOULD HAVE INTERVENED in Iraq and stopped the human rights abuse of the Iraqi people. In your comment to me, you state, "you almost eliminated the Indians". I love the American Indians very much. They are a very special people and I am very grieved these beautiful people were treated so horribly. You state: "slaves from black Africa to serve the whites like you." There are no slaves in America today! I believe in the One great G-d of the universe who gave his laws to Moses: "You shall not murder." Exodus 21:16 "He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death." Slavery is evil! America committed a great evil in the past by allowing slavery! G-d warns all who show no mercy: James 2:13: "judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy." In California, an African American, deeply concerned about the enslavement of blacks by Muslims in the Sudan, told me he got death threats from Muslims because he showed documentaries about the slavery.

21. CORRECT! ETHNIC JEW CLEANSING IS DEFINITELY NOT DEMOCRACY
It is hatred and rabid racism. STOP THE JEW-HATE! STOP THE ETHNIC JEW CLEANSING! The Palestinian Authority teach the genocide of Jews through their mosques, media and educational systems: Broadcast from Gaza mosque by Ahmad Abu Halabiya, Oct 13 2000 (transcribed by Memri): "Have no mercy on the Jews, no matter where they are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you are. Wherever you meet them, kill them. Wherever you are, kill those Jews and those Americans who are like them..." In the Bible, God commanded: "You shall not murder" Genocide or plannned genocide breaks international law.

23. REPLY TO #22 LIBYAN GUY
I am very horrified about the bombing of the innocent Kurd people. May G-d help them. Yes, the U.S has done some very bad things. Other nations have also done some very bad things. G-d is kind and merciful. G-d requires that we also show kindness and mercy. On Judgment Day G-d will punish all those who did evil and did not repent of their evil. I am looking forward to that future time when there will be no more hate. Isaiah 2: "Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they learn war."

24. Linda New York ... REPLY
You can't just come and admit that your country did somthing bad in the past and just go over it !!! that is very easy, but since you hold Arabs and Muslims accountable for their mistakes, you should also have you share on hand and work hard, not just killing the innocent and then walking in his funeral. You are not better to say ... yes we did but that is from the past as well as Jews, meanwhile we did but need to pay forever just to make you and the Jews happy !!! DO YOU GET MY POINT !!! an innocent kid in Palestine should be treated like an innocent kid in Jewish Israel (Arabic Israli are considered 2nd class people in the JEws state).

25. Abbas questions Israeli Democracy
Mr. Abbas and myself have a lot in common. Mr. Abbas studied his concepts of democracy in the Soviet Union and I studied them in the university run by the government of communist Poland. Today I live in the backyard of the biggest imperialistic empire and the Canadian government on many occasions opposses democratically, decissions of the USA government. However I do not get to voice my opinion in the extend that is voiced by Mr. Abbas. To this day I do not understand unillateral motion carried by Prime Minister A. Sharon to withdraw from Gaza. I certainly may understand financial pressure imposed by the American government on Israel. But in the long run none is right in trying to trade land for peace. In Europe many wars were fought. Poland has taken over the land from German territory and the French took German land. Russia perhaps occupies Lvov that used to be Polish. Nobody ever is going to revise the border of Europe. Why is this possible in the Middle East? Because it involves Jews and somehow We try to invent new order? Very doubtfull, Israel never occupied anybody's land. Israel fought too many wars. And the last "intifada" may not turn out to be the lat one. The Palestinians consatntly use the word occupation. One must understand to end Palestinian terms of occupation is to give up Eretz Israel. I just visited Israel a week ago. I sat with my large immediate family at the Pesah Seder. I certainly wonder about democracy and how it is going to reflect in my and my family future. Then on the Holocaust Day I drove the car and I stopped at 10 am for 2 minutes. In total silence with the sound of siren for the first time I realized. This is the only place that in some way remembers passing of my grandparents. Mr. Abbas reviews the holocaust. Let me just remind to the World. My family exists today on three continents. My Israeli connection never knew that I existed for fifty years. I knew I had a sister my mother lost in the IIWW. Mr. Abbas concept of democracy perhaps included Nazi Germany. My concept of democracy resents Nazi Germany and Mr. Abbas concepts of democracy and his revision of Holocaust. My best regards: Sam Jarczyn
