1. Israel scores low
Yosef Goldberg ,   Israel   (08.03.05)
A foreign diplomat once termed Israel "a shitty little country" We huffed and we puffed indignantly and even accused him of anti-semitism. It turns out that we have been in denial too long and we are only perpetuating a myth. But don't expect reform; it will be killed before it even begins to take off.
2. Netanyahu
G B ,   Ramat Gan   (08.03.05)
What is remarkable,is that our Finance Minister Bibi is happy about our financial situation. Those latest statistics about corruption and about Israel very reputation do not mean anything to him.He is a happy man...

4. URL of report?
amechad ,   jerusalem, israel   (08.04.05)
Anyone have the URL or location of the World Bank Report? And the problem is not Bibi but rather that this country is still socialist and still not a professional meritocracy. Only when the black market (which Bibi wants to get rid of) and economic efficiency come will political freedom and honesty come.

Why in that case 5 or 10 years ago was the corruption so bad.Does not ANYBODY have the feeling NOW that in order to close a deal, position, government contract you need somebody. Was the situation the same before?.Don't fool yourself. Every business man knows the truth and also the outside world.
6. Yet, we still have business - why?
Shai ,   Israel   (08.05.05)
The reason companies like Intel come here is BECAUSE they can influence the government. Same with Israeli big business. They know they don't HAVE to be competitive to get favors, all they have to do is influence a few powerful people and they'll get what they want. And they make money. That's why the social gap is widening, because the average Yossi doesn't have any influence over his government. Once he votes, he's of no interest to the government until the next election. The system needs to be much more representational by area, not by ideology (parties), and there needs to be a way to make each Knesset member accountable to a consituency. Nothing else is going to help.

9. Israeli economic corruption rises
Lenny ,   usa   (08.10.05)
Whatever this article is worth. I don't think you can compare Israel to France or Spain or anyone else. They don't have 300,000,000 muslims and the U.N. attacking them on a daily basis. If Israel had the peace of mind these other countries enjoy there is no doubt Israel would have scored 99.9
10. #9(Lenny) Terror is not the reason for corruption!!
Miss Muslima ,   London, England, UK   (10.19.05)
"Whatever this article is worth. I don't think you can compare Israel to France or Spain or anyone else. They don't have 300,000,000 muslims and the U.N. attacking them on a daily basis. If Israel had the peace of mind" I don't know what you're talking about Lenny. Can you show how the attacks on Israel are directly related to the corruption within Israel? And what did you say? Are 300,000,000 Muslim's attacking Israel ? Stop exaggerating. What you are``doing is diverting attention away from the root of the cause of corruption, namely, greed, lack of moral values, and apathy. Another thing, you forget that nearly every European country has had a terror problem. The 2 countries you mention (France and Spain) certainly have! If your logic were to prevail, then every European country should be ranked lower than Israel, since their terror problems have been there for longer!
