In case no one noticed, this news item is about 1 soldier's feelings about having to follow orders given to him by a democratically elected government. He does not need to agree with the policy, but he must follow orders. The Israeli army is the only one that I know of that asks it's soldiers to think about the moral considerations of the order. If it is completely immoral, he has an obligation not to carry it out. If it is in the gray area, he must follow the order and argue about it afterwards. What this soldier is going through is nearly as hard as what the settlers are going through. True, the settlers are losing their homes, but the soldier is the one who must remove them. He is not doing it because he loves expelling people from their homes. This story is not about politics. It's about the human cost of this whole disengagement process. We are all bleeding from it.
