Mubarak’s statement is an outrage that should be answered and harshly. Which bring us to the following: why are Israelis constantly on the defensive when faced with absurd allegations? Why is Israeli press so eager to report uncritically every utterance by an Arab leader, or a spokesman for a terrorist organization, no matter how outrageously and obviously untrue? Why do the writers for the Israeli newspapers have all the sympathy for the people who want them dead and none for their own countrymen, especially if they happen to be religious? As I see it, Linda R. does a far better job defending Israeli positions than any Israeli spokesmen/women or politicians who so eagerly appear before our TV cameras only to show either total unprepareness or to try to be “evenhanded.” In the case of Peres and various left-wingers, they ably defend and explain away the atrocities of the Arabs and affirm the rightness of their position, in case the rest of the world skips a day without condemning Israel for one infraction or another.
