5. for different reasons...the memory of Rabin and Zeevi should
be remembered and honoured.
but first the common point between these two men:
They loved Israel and they fought for the establishment and the defense of the state of Israel and later they dedicated their political lives to improving Israel.
Later in their lives -
Both men developed different political perspectives and yet in his comments from the podium of the Knesset Mr. Zeevi, z"l, in remembering Mr. Rabin, z"l called the later "My Teacher".
What do we learn from this? We learn from this that although they had different political points of view both men placed love of and loyalty to Israel as the highest value. They placed understanding of fellow Israelis even those with different perspectives above all. They understood what we have forgotten.
Alas today most of us speak from a very different perspective...we speak from the perspective of hatred of brother and sister, of hatred of fellow Israeli and then of hatred of Palestinian and only rarely out of love of Israel. We have forgotten what our highest value should be...our highest value should be defense of Israel from love for her.
Mr. Rabin, was a great leader of Israel -- so great that he was elected by the majority of the people twice to serve as the nation's Prime Minister.
and yet out of pure hatred, one Jewish religious man decided that he would not only destroy an entire universe by murdering Mr. Rabin, z"l, the individual, not only to violate the Law of God (though shalt not murder) but also to desrespect the will of the people of the State of Israel - this lone Jewish assassin robbed the House of Israel's right to express it's will.
Mr. Ze'evi had a different greatness -- his greatness was that he was a good human being who came to believe in a different way, yet he awlays sought to function within the rules and laws of the State of Israel. It is very sad indeed that he was also murdered.
For somewhere in the different ways of life of that these two men chose was the reasonable and responsible solution to the existential issue that Israel still faces.
It is a great pity that each was taken from us in such a vile and violent manner.
May their memories be for a blessing.
