1. Come on down
Michelle ,   Israel   (11.15.05)
The more the merrier
2. Nothing to be proud of!
Matthias ,   Switzerland   (11.15.05)
It really fits to Tel Aviv that it is "The Pink City" but it sure isn't anything to be proud of!
3. Yuck!
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (11.15.05)
What a horible idea. More stupidity from the Israeli tourism officials. Instead of filling the city up with (even more) gays, why cant they do something about the shabby buildings and piss smelling streets. Try and make the city a little more upmarket, more cultural, more chic and attract some more money into it. The tourism dollars will flow naturally and the city will look better (not worse as it will after this plan comes into effect). Instead of having an even huge(r) gay population here. With same sex couples everywhere you look - that just sounds weird and yucky.
4. I didn't see one kippah in the picture. No beards, no payot?
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (11.15.05)
What kind of Jews are these? The're not gonna get any aliyahs if they don't learn to dress a little more sneius.
5. Gays, Lesbians, welcome !
Hiram ,   Tel aviv   (11.15.05)
I am personally glad that the city is thinking about this " market"; There is indeed an enormous travel industry geared around the gay and lesbian communities. What catches my thoughts however is why do we need to attract such a market ? Is it simply because we realize that tourism in Israel is going down ? Let s hope that Gays and lesbians will be treated better than regular tourists are handled when coming to Israel. Before trying to attract new tourists, the Ministry in charge should train travel and hotel industry staff to behave nicely with tourists. Countless desk personnel or coffee shop staff in 5 stars location ( starting with David Intercontinental) are rude, pretentious, and cold.
6. perfect thats all we need to make us look good in the world
aa ,   london.....uk   (11.15.05)
7. i guess it makes sense
Leah ,   Jerusalem   (11.15.05)
whatever we need to do to get the money in...even if it is gay money.
8. Another sign of Israel's self-destruction
(11.15.05)
I don't have time to elaborate so I'll put it simply: Something as natural as procreation and life is turned away whilst a psychological illness is glorified and promoted as a means of making more money. Israel is rotting.
9. Remember Effects of hurricane Katrina on New Orleans
Nachm Sanow ,   USA   (11.15.05)
New Orleans was going to have a big Gay Parade that week. Don't Forget Israel's existence is nothing but miraculous. You have over a hundred million enemies surrounding it. Its time to wake up and follow the Almighty and his Torah.
10. To # 8
mother of gay guy ,   Israel   (11.15.05)
Oh yeah, procreation! Sure, what we really need is more kids filling up every square inch of space, as if there aren't enough already in Israel. What an ignorarant and narrow-minded comment you made, when you referred to being gay as a psychological illness! Your comment only promotes hatred and violence, of which we have more than enough already. You are full of bitterness, which stems from your lack of knowledge. This is not the way a "good Jew" conducts him/herself. Try treating others as you would want to be treated yourself. People are people, regardless of race, color, religion or sexual preferences. By the way, I have yet to meet nicer peopel than the gay people I know. Now, think about that next time, and have fun procreating, but I hope you don't pass your hatred on to your children.
11. #3
J K ,   NYC, USA   (11.15.05)
I agree with Gil. Have some civic pride and clean up the city and make it a beautiful place to come. New York City isn't perfect, but it is 1000x cleaner than it was when I came her almost 9 years ago. Obviously people come because its NY, but if Tel Aviv wants to really attract people, it needs to offer more than the beach and Gay City. Put the money into fixing the place up and EVERYONE will come.
12. i thought it was already
yoshua ,   spain   (11.15.05)
hehe tel aviv is the gayest city i´ve ever been in!!!! they can´t make it even more!!!! its impossible! :P
13. israel is rotting?? ma zeh??
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (11.15.05)
Don't be such a purile self righteous bigot. I dont have any problem with gay people but Tel Aviv is a small city, i just dont want it to be overrun by thousands of gays from all over the world!! And that could happen... because gays, like any group tend to work on a word of mouth / ghetto type philosophy. Having swarms of gays coming here is no good and it might drive away the other decent tourism. Again, Tel Aviv needs a spot of CLASS how about some heavy regeneration of some classic old buildings in Florentine or a couple of really lucury boutique hotels. this stuff is attractive to gays and EVERYONE who has $$$. Plus it makes out city look cooler.... Surely this is not to hard to understand???!!!!
14. pink city
gabriel eskel ,   maoz zion israel   (11.15.05)
May I suggest a new name for this happenings: Tel Aviv Shame 2006 gavriel
15. Put them all in a plane straight to paris!
Yakir ,   Swiss   (11.15.05)
Sorry, but i'm anti homo-sexuals when they try to change "things"...
16. Bizarre
(11.15.05)
I suppose this isnt going to be a family neighborhood - and more a young, singel and gay city-as most family oriented people congregate towards more traditional settiings- I would think as a child, it would get confusing to see displays of homosexuality at too young an age. though my best friend in the world is gay- and has a child from a (failed marriage) I believe he was discreet with his sexual orientation till the child was at least 15 or so- and for the record- no, he did not want his child to be gay- he knows how hard it is in the world sometimes- But on the bright side- the gays are great with decorating and interior design!! Sprucing up the old neighborhood-
17. It is prostitution
Shmuel ,   Israel   (11.15.05)
Plain and simple, this is selling out any morals or scruples for the money. Of course, if you want to destroy the country, then this is a way to do it, but many of us want a pace to raise our children, in our country, with our culture. Gay is NOT that. Maybe ask, what is life about anyway. Proably the answer will not be "profit" or "a party".
18. What a shame ! We don' t need and want them in TLA !
(11.15.05)
19. Hiram # 5 u don' t like girls ?
(11.15.05)
20. Not in my city- not in our land
Dani ,   Aviv   (11.15.05)
Take your abominations to another land. Better yet- seek professional help and stop it altogether. Behave like human being
21. Gay and democracy.
Frenchman ,   France   (11.15.05)
The treatment of the gay citizens is the barometer for democracy's strength. When the situation for gays is bad in a certain country, the democracy is in danger or nonexistent. The treatment of women is also a very good barometer. The arab countries are a perfect exemple of intolerant society who persecute gay and women right and freedom. If someone prefer to live in a middle-age society, it's not my business, but it will implode sooner or later.
22. GAY - Tel Aviv
Damon Besinsky ,   Ein Sarid, Israel   (11.15.05)
What the hell has happened to our country?? Each day we move closer and closer to self-destruct. The threat of destruction is not from the Arabs but from ourselves.
23. You gotta be kidding me
tomas sullivan ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.15.05)
I like Tel Aviv, the idea of it being the Gay capital if th world...Dear G-D!!! please some one give me a BREAK!!
24. cool down
Martin ,   Berlin, Germany   (11.15.05)
Nazism in german society has been defeated definitely perhaps only when gay men could become village masters of big cities like Hamburg or Berlin (as actually, elected by great majorities), gay couples were allowed to marry and noone asks you anymore wether you are straight or gay ... remember David and Jonathan!!
25. this is disgusting
yair ,   nahariya   (11.15.05)
26. fantastic idea
Dov ,   Detroit, USA   (11.16.05)
Wow, what a marvelous idea! I visited Israel including Tel Aviv nearly 30 years ago, and haven't returned since. I've always felt that if I ever returned to Israel, I'd definitely want to check out the local gay scene too, wherever it happened to be. If that's going to be Tel Aviv, I'm more likely to make an effort to head for that city and spend money there that otherwise would either have been spent elsewhere in Israel or possibly not be spent at all. This would give me a great excuse and definitely more of an incentive to return to Israel and spend some vacation dollars there.
27. What does your god say about gays??
Adam ,   Palestine   (11.16.05)
28. martin
Gil ,   Tel aviv   (11.16.05)
dont you think that encouraging gayness in Jewish cities is wrong simply because we need to concentrate on preserving our diminishing population and pro-creating. Especially after Germans wiped out 33% of us.
29. Hey Adam - # 27
Tel Aviv Queen ,   Israel   (11.16.05)
I don't know what G-d says, I'll ask him, and let you know ASAP. Probably, G-d will say that gays are his children too. You know, all of you people here who have written comments full of hatred against gays, I have to tell you that this is exactly why the Nazis decided to annilate the Jews. To them, Jews were not humans, they were different, and therefore threatening, and we all know the outcome. So what are you going to do, exterminate all the gay people, so that you can make room for more babies? And what if, heaven forbid, one of those babies that is created out of the act of procreation between a hetrosexual man and woman, is gay? ??? Will you stop loving him or her?
30. Sometimes I'm also proud to be an Israeli
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (11.16.05)
Gays in Israel have more civil rights than gays in many other countries, esp., sigh, the USA.
