1. typical lefty poll
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (12.21.05)
This is yet another of the endless lefty bs polls. If you say to Israelis, "If there's just one little thing you need to do to gain lasting peace and quiet, would you do it?" they say yes. I too would back talking to Hamas if would bring peace. I would also support turning Mount Everest into ice cream sundaes if it would bring peace. And then all around the world they hear "Israelis are ready to talk to Hamas," and Israel and the world get further bewildered and weakened.
2. Are there no limits to our stupidity?
Gedaliah   (12.21.05)
Talk with Hamas? What do you want to talk about? How or when they want to kill us. Wake up people, the have a hate so deep for the Jews that they are willing to send there children to their graves in order to bring along a few Jews. They will never stop until every jew is dead in the sea.
3. Imagine negotiating with the killers of
Mona ,   Jerusalem   (12.21.05)
your child or wife or husband! This is the stuff great tragedies are made of.
4. The shameful left are revisionists of history.
George ,   NY   (12.21.05)
5. Skewed numbers
Kate ,   London   (12.21.05)
Given 20% of Israel's population is Arab, this headline should read: "30% of Israeli Jews back Hamas talks"
6. Better question!!!
The Dude ,   Dudestan   (12.21.05)
Is Hamas willing to talk to Israel? Why should Israel talk to Hamas in the first place? Who is Hamas to talk to? What would these talks yield?
7. Excellent news!!
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (12.21.05)
There's never been much doubt that Israelis want peace and are prepared to do almost anything to achieve it. We are not the problem; the other side needs to get their heads round to certain verities. Incidentally, this is further evidence--if any was needed--of how completely out of touch haLiqud is.
8. #1
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (12.21.05)
Robert, you've turned into those you despise the most: the rabid anti-Semites who dismiss media as "Zionist controlled" and who see evil (Jewish) conspiracies behind everything that irks them. Please chill.
9. #3
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (12.21.05)
Sure, Mona: it's much better to hold a grudge and hatred inside yourself l'olam va'ed. Amen. That way, the terrorists won't have killed only your child, wife or husband but you, too. A great plan indeed.
10. #7 Happy Hamas
Marcel ,   Florida   (12.21.05)
Israel's enemies are happy. They know how well the Oslo ,Zinni,Mitchell,Wye,Sharm,Aquaba talks went for them . Israel has allowed itself to be taked into defeat and destruction. When Israel defeated her enemies in the past five wars ,Israel's enemies were sad and mad ,foaming at the mouth mad. Now Israel's enemies are happy as you are abu stenier.
11. This poll means nothing...
Yakir   (12.21.05)
Try diffrent, let every citizen vote for that poll again, you'll see it'll be 180 degree the other way...
12. To all Israelis
Normal   (12.21.05)
First: negotiations is done with enemies not with friends. Second: the way to peace is easier and much simpler than that. u don't have to do the impossiple, u don't have to talk with Hamas or any extreme group the solution is clear and in front of your eyes all the time but u always intend to escape from it and say we'll do anything for peace.
13. Hey Katie #5
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (12.21.05)
I still like you and would like to do that "revision" we talked about with you. ;-) But girl, statistics are evidently not your forte...I'll let you figure out why your calculation is wrong by yourself. If you need help, you know where to find me. ;-) But even if your postulate was true, it would not make a difference, because Israeli Arabs are part of Israel's electorate, and therefore their opinions are as important as those of Israel's Jews.
14. this is politic
(12.21.05)
you didn't know the game till now .... in the old time Yasser Arafat and the PLO were the terrorists no. 1 wanted in the USA and Israel ... later on ... they became the oficcial government of the Palistinians and all the Leaders around the world had to axept them and to shake their hans ... and ... even ... they gave mr. Arafat a Nobel prise for PEACE sharing it with mr. Peres .... and the time run and came now the time of Hamas ... the same story will happen again and Hamas will be the new government and the negotiaters ... you want or you don't want .... you can scream ... you can shout ... do what you want but this will happen soon or later .... in politic there is no rules , no pricinpels , fanatism but only what's interst all the sides ...... the history say it ....... take it or leave it
15. To Michael Steiner who really isn't
Mona   (12.21.05)
Grudges ARE NOT what makes for the slaughter of innocent lives. Hate does. Inborn hate. I would rather sufficate in pig shit before I would concede one thing to Hamas. Word of wisdom: When the viscious dog bites one it eventually bites everyone.
16. Michael, I don't see Jewish conspiracies
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (12.21.05)
I see lefty conspiracies, like the Oslo accords, originally negotiated behind the backs of the Israeli people and govt., then foisted on the Israeli people through a series of tricks, like the 1995 Oslo II vote, "won" by bribing two guys with Mitsubishis and cushy cabinet positions, and bringing twelve years of terrorism (with a relative hafsaka only in the three years of Netanyahu's prime ministership) with no end in sight. Your talkback number 9, commenting to number 3, shows the moral and psychological understanding and sensitivity of a mentally challenged Neanderthal. Have you ever thought about your need to be abusive toward Jews you disagree with?
17. The sound of one hand clapping
Fabia Fiortina ,   Los Angeles   (12.21.05)
This internal debate leads nowhere. It is irrelevant whether Israelis are willing to negotiate with Hamas or not. While we continue to make offers and counter-offers to our own offers, Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad and the rest clearly state that they want it all. They clearly state that the Jews have no rights to anything - even life. How are you going to compromise about that?
18. Talks with Hamas
Joe Levy ,   USA   (12.21.05)
You got to be kidding. Talks with terrorist that open aim is the destruction of Israel. Division of Jerusalem I doubt the valitity of this poll.
19. Re: "Michael, I don't see any Jewish conspiracies"
Kate ,   London   (12.21.05)
RobertK writes: "Your talkback number 9, commenting to number 3,shows the moral and psychological understanding and sensitivity of a mentally challenged Neanderthal. Have you ever thought about your need to be abusive toward Jews you disagree with? " He shows respect for nothing and no-one - not women, not Israel, not fellow-Jews (I imagine he'd spit in his own mother's face if she crossed him). As another poster put it the other day: "He'd make the flesh of a child abuser crawl." He seems to believe for some unaccountable reason that I'd agree to sleep with him. Aside from the very obvious reasons why such an idea fills me with total revulsion, I wouldn't feel safe even being in his company. He is *that* creepy. He really is best ignored. On the other hand, one has to feel great sympathy for his poor family.
20. To Michael Steiner
New York, NY   (12.21.05)
Your sentiments are very typical of the EU - "Appease and hope for the best." Unfortunately your very "nuanced" view does not apply to the real world and you will soon find yourself in the middle a new intifadah.
21. Once they start talking about it, it's probably gonna happen
Alex ,   Boston   (12.21.05)
22. to #19
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (12.21.05)
Kate, you're right that he's best ignored, and that would be the most mature approach. His whole aim is to upset people and egg them on.
23. NO LIMIT TO HEB U STUPIDITY
(12.21.05)
24. what is there to talk about?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.21.05)
Now what exactly is there to talk about with Hamas? Work out an "exit" schedule by what time all the Jews have to be gone from Israel before they start slaughtering the ones who are still there?
25. Calling Dr. Kenneth Levin -Israelis/Jews Need You Urgently
Adina kutnicki ,   Nj   (12.21.05)
Two main issues here - first, I am positive that the poll question was purposefully skewed for this response. Afterall, a poll is only as reliable as the pollsters impartial questioning. Second, those who would actually negotiate with Hamas, despite this poll, and despite knowing that Hamas calls for their death, only points to the urgency that is needed for one thing-the immediate necessity for the education ministry to include Dr. Kenneth Levin's profound book/study "The Oslo Syndrome: Delusions of a People Under Siege" as required reading. The psychological & historical analysis and data from this book demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt the "illness" that pervades Jewish thinking. That is, the otherwise inexplicable reasoning becomes reasonable & thus "allows" for otherwise normal people to "negotiate" & appease with those whose OPENLY call for their annihilation. One needn't be a psychology student nor a historian to grasp the fundamentals in this book. In a very lucid, plain spoken manner, this Harvard psychiatrist and Princeton Phd in history's study must be introduced into Israel's curriculum.
26. This is just media spin that doesn't relect the majority.
ls ,   israel   (12.21.05)
27. A forum for right wing extremists
(12.21.05)
except for Steiner - a voice in the wilderness. Anybody there wants peace in the area?? We made peace with Germany, cann't we make peace with the Palestinians? You people are sick !!!!!!! You just thirst for more blood... ours and theirs.
28. #5 Kate, learn some math please... it's 37.5%
David Rapoport ,   LA   (12.21.05)
Apparantly Kate spent too much time in liberal arts classes and not enough in math. By her polling method (subtracting out the 20% Israeli Arabs from the poll, because they don't deserve to vote), 37.5% of (real Jewish) Israelis support direct talks with Hamas, not 30%. Any Arab child in an East Jerusalem school could figure this one out, Kate.
29. #s 15, 16, 19 and 20
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (12.21.05)
#15: You missed my point completely. If you keep hating and being stubborn pursuant to that hate, you achieve nothing. If anything, the terrorists accomplish even more because not only did they take the physical life of your dear one but they also took your life. Because life consumed by hatred is not a life. #16: Wow, thanks for addressing my points with such insight and educated analitical thought. As for my sensitivity, you're right: oftentimes I'm not as courteous as I could be but then some people talk such nonsense that it's difficult wasting one's time on politesse. Besides, Mona didn't say she had lost anyone herself but simply made a very dogmatic and intransigent statement, which, most rational people would agree, is very problematic if one wants to leave in the real world without complete isolation. #19: You are making yourself look preposterous. You're convinced you're precocious but in actual fact you're extremely immature and narrow-minded. I come across your like every day: arrogant individuals who think they know it all but at the end of the day revert to ad hominem, straw-men and sophistry. They're usually the hordes of anti-Semites plaguing the Internet but you're doing a great job, too. Give it a couple of years and, if you're clever as you appear to be underneath your presently quite repugnant literary exterior, you'll have become very ashamed of your erstwhile pieces, such as the one above. I know because I've been down the same road, with the same views, as you. #20: No, buddy, you're jumping the gun. When I think force is the answer, I say so clearly, as I do in the case of Iran, which I believe has to be dealt with militarily (commando-style) now. But fact in law and morality is that we have no business being in Yesh. We have to withdraw and give them what they say officially and in English they want. And then if one rock falls into the borders of Israel, come on them like a ton of bricks.
30. one question
Michael ,   Halifax   (12.21.05)
who has killed more during the intifada? IDF and IAF, or Hamas? (note: race or ethnicity of the victim is irrelevant)
