some jews finally got off their butts to help defend the USA- instead of just fighting for a foreign nation like Israel-
2. Your ignorance is embarrasing
BeachBum ,   Israel   (01.13.06)
Check out the Jewish War Veterans of America website at www.jwv.org and www.nmajmh.org. There you'll learn about the amazing contribution of Jewish people to the defense of the USA.
3. academy one thing nrtc is another
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (01.13.06)
in the recruit training centers (regular sailors) Jews are not so common. while in the USN in the mid 70's I was called the "Jesus Killer and worse and even beaten because of my being Jewish! once I got out it was Israel for me!
4. RE: It's about time
Meir Moses   (01.13.06)
Jews have always been disproportionately highly represented in the US Armed Forces for decennia. Likewise, they have fought for allied nations the last 100 years. Jews were prominent in the Soviet Armies that suffered too. My Grandfather and his grandfathers, where officers in the Dutch Army. Read 'GI Jews' and get the real picture.
5. To Beach Bum

The racism being spewed by No. 1 isn't just embarassing, it's a goddamned lie. My father and many of his friends, all Jews, fought in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. But this idiot knows he's full of crap. He's just looking for a place to regurgitate some Jew-baiting bulls--t.
6. Jewish-American military service
Fabia Fiortina ,   Los Angeles   (01.13.06)
American Jews have served in the United States military in all major conflicts, as well as during peacetime. The anonymous poster of comment #1 has obviously never heard of Samuel Gross (Margulies), who won the Medal of Honor, or Samuel Glucksman and Meier Rothschild whose bravery far above and beyond the call of duty were rewarded with the Navy Cross. He is also ignorant of Bud Newman, a Jewish-American marine who is credited with the first Japanese plane to be brought down at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. I daresay, our anonymous poster’s studies of U.S. History have not included such renowned soldiers as the legendary Lou Diamond of China and Guadalcanal fame, LeRoy Diamond, hero of Guadalcanal, recipient of the Navy Cross and Purple Heart (and model for the film Pride of the Marines), Major-General Melvin Krulewitch, veteran of four wars, the first American to personally capture Japanese prisoners and the first to fly the American flag on Japanese territory; boxing champion and hero of Guadalcanal, Barney Ross, Abe Daniels, who sank a Japanese destroyer in the Pacific after three of his squadron mates missed the target, flying ace Harold Segal or Lieutenant-General Robert Magnus. Today, Jews continue to serve in all bases, units, and detachments of the U.S. military.
7. Uriah Levy's gift the the American people
Fabia Fiortina ,   Los Angeles   (01.14.06)
In addition to his otherwise admirable accomplishments, Uriah P. Levy was responsible for ending the practice of flogging in the U.S. Navy. A great admirer of Thomas Jefferson, Levy bought, restored, and gave Montecello, which had fallen into disrepair after Jefferson's death, as a gift to the American people.

One of the first casualties in Iraq was a Jewish Marine. But, what's the point? This damned fool isn't going to let go of his obvious prejudices.
9. Jews in US Navy
Hilda ,   US   (01.15.06)
There have been many Levys in the US Navy since Uriah. My dad and my uncle both named Levy served during WW2. Uncle Harry was just a young kid and served served in the Pacific He saw some heavy action and had nightmares long after. Dad was a cook and served all over the place . He was on a weather patrol ship in the Atlantic and also on a mission to Mirmansk. He was the oldest guy onboard and they called him pop and he was loved by all because he used to make lots of Jewish goodies for the Jewish holidays and was always there for the Friday night services with some pastry. He used to remark that non Jewish guys used to come to these services just to taste his cakes. His mother, my grandmother was from a professional family of bakers from the old country. I can still taste her delicious challah which was more like cake than bread . My dad learned first hand but unfortunately I did not inherit any of their skills, Maybe it's because he was away serving his country during my formative years. Dad died a couple of years ago at age 95 and he never regretted serving his country,. He felt he owed it to the US for giving us a safe home..
10. Now what about that goon at the Air Force Academy
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (01.15.06)

No, I don't think that, I just wanted to remind all my fellow citiizens and American Jews out there that the Christian fundamentalists aren't really the pals they think they are....
