Jerusalem was never a unified city since 1948. The proof is quite easily seen if you go around in the city, the western part which was occupied in 1948, and which has a Palestinian registered ownership of 67%, and the eastern part of the city which became a totally different city. The proof is that in the western part, you see policemen, while in the eastern side and especially on the borderzone between the two parts (road no. 1) the streets are ruled by the MAGAV, Mishmar Gvul, I dont think you find the border control units in the middle of any unified city in the world, unless of course this city is OCCUPIED.
