If you look at Carter's legacy you'll his greatest contributions to humanity come in the form of disease innoculation for citizens of the 3rd world. Carter's involvement in the Israeli-Arab conlict is dangerous because he lacks a solid understanding of the goals of the two parties. He was trounced by Ronald Reagen in the 1980 Presidential election after he nearly destroyed the US during his first term. Carter had runaway inflation, a housing depression, the incompetent attempt to rescue the hostages from Iran, and he caused a general malaise and inferiority among the American people. His one success--the agreement between Israel and Egypt---was more a function of getting together 2 men in Begin and Sadat who wanted an agreement. Since being rejected by the American people, he has constantly criticized the sitting Presidents. In addition, he has written speeches for Arafat and has been hostile to Israel's security needs. Habitat for Humanity is his only positive contribution as an Ex-President.
