3. Is this what the world has come to?
J K ,   NYC, USA   (02.16.06)
Is Islam the boss of everyone? Ridiculous. If they dont like it, turn off the TV. No one is throwing this tennis match in your face. If you want to hear it turn on a radio, lest your sensibilities be affected, although I hope all that female grunting is ok for you to listen to. Maybe next she'll play in a burqa so she doesnt offend anyones sensibilities.
4. Tennis doubles
gerschor ,   Raanana, Israel   (02.16.06)
Surely there are enough decent players in women's tennis for Shahar Peer to find a partner other than someone who runs away.
5. Ban Her
tony ,   PARIS   (02.16.06)
What is this "Tennis Player doing on the circuit ,anyway??If she is so racist, she should be banned from competing in international competions.Either she is very scared of ,once again the arab rections,or she is just plain racist.I dont remember the Iranians boycotting, the American football team, during the world cup soccer,I think the International Tennis board Must Disqualifie, this person, from all tournaments.Oh and what has SEX,got to do with it.???What kind of freak do we have here.???Trying to justifie her reasons for not playing against the Israeli,'sHer SEX life does not interest us in the least, let alone her Ideas on Islam..
6. It so pathetic but there's worse... check this out
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (02.16.06)
Imagine a major Moslem tennis player turns out to be..... GAY! hahaha can you imagine the furor? Because as we all know, homosexuality is simply found in all communities worldwide. I just expect that in Moslem lands its totally closeted... worse, underground. The fear not of social humilliation for being caught but.... DEATH!! You Gay Moslems out there listening to Jimmy Sommerville in your sound proof closets i wish you a lot if luck!!
7. The human being is worth more than a game
Mohammed ,   Gaza, Palestine   (02.16.06)
Specially with bad one
8. more insanity
jf ,   nashville,usa   (02.16.06)
why do so many countries feel they must tolerate these insane religions? what if there were a religion made up of nudists that believed in eating the brains of young virgins caught wearing garments.....would we allow them to exist? Hell no....Islam Extremism is just another type of nut.
9. Mohammed...
DR ,   Florida, USA   (02.16.06)
"A human being is worth more than a game". Now go and tell that to all the suicide bombers and terrorists that you are neighbors with. This is a perfect example if islam going too far. that a young girl should be scared to play tennis, b/c of her religion is borderline insane. You cannot defend this crap...it is crazy...period!!!
10. Intimidation, Arab style
Steve ,   USA   (02.16.06)
B"H Every time the Arabs complain on how poor they are and how oppressed they are, I have to remind myself of how oppressive they can be if allowed to, if the bounds are let up at all. Here, the little girl simply fears for her life. What she needs to do in order to be truly be free is to get out of this environment, study Judiasm, convert, and move to Israel to play her friend. Judiasm is citizenship in a Nation free from such intimidation. That was the freedom granted to the Jewish people at Sinai. That is why the Jewish people must do everything in their power to preserve Israel and the Jewish people and to block this sort of violent intimidation. There should be an international outrage over the threats to this tennis player's life. Why are cartoons held holy and actual lives not held to the same standard? In this case, the pictured fuse over the Arab head was displaced to active threats against a tennis player's life. This is very sad and serious. Israel must understand that its enemy is very different than itself. An enemy who threatens a tennis player's life over a game with Israel is a much greater evil than any differences the Jews have within themselves, and Jews need to build brotherhood and sisterhood to deal with this threat in a serious manner.
11. Gaza Boy there is NOT only Islam and Hamas in Life
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (02.16.06)
the majority of the world lives happy .... laughs and is well with each other you have to step out of the 12th century and join the times we live in now we are not going to go back to the stone age the fater you learn to live normal and decent and accept same the better
12. Another capitulation
Chaya ,   Israel   (02.16.06)
The editor of the newspaper in Norway that reprinted the infamous cartoons has APOLOGIZED to the Muslim community. First step towards dhimmitude!! Now this girl follows suit by giving in to the Islamic-fascist threats.
13. The Religion of Peace strikes again.
AK   (02.16.06)
As if anyone needs more proof that Islam really is a violent cult and not a religion. It operates by threat, intimidation and violence -- sort of like a Mafia, only more brutal and even more corrupting. This young player was easily intimidated, and why shouldn't she be -- the entire countries and the so called "free world press" are folding just as easily. Now the question is , will this post be censored by those with the overblown sensitivities toward the practitioners of the religion of head cutters and mutilators?
14. Shameful!
Siddharth Malani ,   India   (02.22.06)
Really shameful a sportsperson succumb to a bunch of looosers who would do anything to get their way (in the name of their faith) Why is she following something she doesnot believe in. Is everything she does on and off court comply to the whims and fancies of these jokers?
15. Please!
Siddharth Malani ,   India   (02.22.06)
This is not about Indians. India has 85% hindus and 15 % Muslims. Please dont rake the country in this stupid dispute.
16. Media Hype
Chase ,   Australia   (02.23.06)
I can understand that all of this may seem to be a personal affront against Shahar, but really, this is being overhyped by a media that already places too much pressure on Sania because of her nationality. Sania is now playing with Huber, a player ranked considerably higher, so the idea that her split from Pe'er being motivated totally by Pe'er's religion is shady at best. Mirza seems to have seen and taken the chance to play with an undoubtedly better player, and who can blame her? Things like this happen in tennis all the time and no one really cares until the players suddenly have something to do with Middle Eastern conflict. Both Pe'er and Mirza are just tennis This entire "controversy" is little more than media sensationalism.
17. Its A Non Issus
Adil Masood ,   Cochin, India   (02.23.06)
Dear All, I read the article as well as the talk back of the fellow netizens regarding Sania-Shahar partnership. I am an Indian and also a Muslim. I strongly condemn any kind of distinction or bias in the name of religon in sports but at the same time I have strong reasons to beleive that this particular issue is being blown out of proportions. Ironically, most of the critical reviewers in this discussion are hardly aware of the ground realities in India. There are no doubts that there are fundamentalists, who find patronage under vote hungry politicians, and are always ready to invoke pseudo nationalist-religious sentiments using irrational moral policing. Many times sports gets involved in it as well. But the influence and capacity of such extrimists are extremely limited. Much has been written regarding the dress code controversy of Sania Mirza. Surely few ultra right conservative muslims protested against she wearing short skirts and sleeveless shirts. But amazingly, very few people bothered to look out for the reality. As it turned out later, no muslim authority of national recognition has raised this issue. Infact, the top muslim bodies of the nation condemned such objections. I am siting the links of the top national dailies of India which reported this issue: [link=http://www.hindu.com/2006/02/02/stories/2006020216170101.htm, http://www.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=62296, http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1488424,00070002.htm My sole reason to site these links is to convince all those who are far from India, that despite the presence of some ultra right groups, Sania Mirza, her tennis and her religon is not a major issue at all. Tennis is not an extremely popular game in India and very few bother regarding such kind of 'non-issues'. As far as partnering with Shahar is concerned, I seriously believe the authenticity of this issue. I saw the article found that the site hardly quoted any proper reference saving a couple of statements atributed to Sania-Shahar conversation and by Shahar's coach. Most of the content of the article talks about some other releted controversies with Sania. The fact is, hardly anyone bothered in India about Sania's partnership with Shahar during her Bangkok and Japan tour last year. Sania's opted to play Bangalore Open with Liezel Huber with whom she partnered in France just before Bangalore. Infact, the partnership with Huber was expected long before. I would like to site a report again regarding this partnership: http://in.news.yahoo.com/060219/48/62lft.html Indian press enjoys as much freedom as the press of any other nation under the sun. No Indian Newspaper or electronics media reported any such kind of issue. I am following Sania Mirza's career very closely and its very hard for me to miss any news article or news item on her. Still I fail to find even a single report concerning this issue anywhere in general and India in particular. India is may be suffering from ethnic, racial and communal problems but largely the government, judiciary, media and above all, the people of India respects freedom an equality better than most of their counterparts around the world. the notion that extremists posses 'serious threat' is a myth and it is absolutly wrong.
18. Some Sense!
Chase ,   Australia   (02.28.06)
Adil Masood, thank you for the blast of reason in your comment. You're right - this whole extremist conspiracy theory IS a total myth. It seems to be mainly motivated by the media, who have to have something sensational to report to keep the circulation up. Leave Sania and Shahar out of this, guys. They're just tennis players. No one should expect them to change the world, and sport doesn't have a place in your conspiracy theories.
19. For the people who don't know the situation in India
Ashish ,   San Francisco, USA   (03.01.06)
Hi All, I am seeing so many replies without even researching once about the young lady. There have been attacks going on in India because of the picture controversy. If Sania, who is next only to Sachin Tedulkar in sports in India , had chosen Pe'er as her partner, there would have been curfew in few parts there. As the report says, they are friends, they will play in future. Sometimes you gotta live your life according to situation if you are an icon. That's what she's doing. Kudos to you, Sania.
20. Pussy Footing never helps
Chinnu ,   New Jersey, USA   (03.11.06)
Pussy footing is Congress Party legacy for India. Islamic terrorists only understand power. If you back-down, they will keep attacking you. Policy of appeasing, nor showing good towards these islamists will did not help India in the last 1,000 years and if will not help it in the next thousand years - If india can remain together that long.
21. what religion?
ninad   (08.29.06)
you are free to choose a religion..just put your new rule and make another religion islam v1.1 ..or give it a new name..
22. Gabrielle Goldwater - would you play tennis with Nasralla ??
Hurkimer ,   PA, USA   (09.01.06)
Would *you* play tennis with someone whos soldiers have run D-9 Armored bulldozers over your Israeli friends house ? Would you go invite Hizballah militants to tea and tennis ? Anyway, as you should know, the oh-so-modern "21st c." Israeli ambassador tried to smash some paintings he did'nt like in Sweden some time back. He was *supported* by some Israeli artists, so the "live in 12th cent" potshot applies to Israelis too.
23. sani mirza
frank ahmed ,   great neck, ny   (09.03.06)
with all the hysterical comments projecting the writer's own feelings, am i mistaken that she played with Peer in the japan open 2005. if you folks confirm this, would you issue a retraction?

25. a religion of peace
Kristen ,   Rochester NY   (03.27.07)
most of you speak of islam as if it was a worldwide terrorism orginaziation. However, the muslims you speak of are the more extremist sects. Many muslims wish to practice thier religion in peace without causing harm to others. I think that we need to mind our own buisness and let muslims do the same
