2. Funding PA Government
Hiram ,   tel aviv   (02.24.06)
It is obvious that the choice is difficult to make. However, the lesser evil would be indeed to have EU transferring money to PA president NOT to any other people or group which would certainly know how to spend taxpayers money not for the people's benefit. My feeling is that these funds should be transferred to the representatives of the world bank in the territories and that their utilisation - to the dollar- be clear to all according to a specific process : 1) Direct responsability of Presidency for fund utilisation 2) Establishing a list of companies or service providers : approved" by the president of the PA Authority ( to avoid recirculation of funds after they reach the "theoretical end user" 3) Allowing verification by international comptrollers of the accounting of sais approved companies or service providers. I believe it would take time to set up such process and would possibly create frustration from the terror group part , however, since obviously PA is not finding funders ( and it is not what we wish in any case) the utilisation of public funds made of european tax payer's money shoulkd be strictly controlled by the PA and by those who are providing the money. The era of the PA reps wearing Gold rolexes on their wrist should be terminated !!!
3. No money for terrorists!

Let the damned Arabs get support from Iran and the rest of the barbarian Muslim terrorists!

You suggest that all the funding for the PA be transfered directly to Abbas because he is the "lesser evil?" Then, I'm guessing, you think he will faithfully invest this money in the welfare and well-being of the Palestinian people, while not giving one cent to Hamas or any other terrorists for that matter? Come on Hiram, get real. The entire infrastructure of the PA is filled with terrorists, the same ones that Arafat installed when he came to power over ten years ago. Abbas is just their new pragmatic golden boy. Everyone else under him, the nuts and bolts of the system (ministers, civil servants, bureaucrats), are still TERRORISTS (Fatah is responsible for countless murders). All this nonsense about monitors and comptrollers can not happen because it is an encroachment on the PA's sovereignty. If the money is not transfered, great. But if it is, foreign entities will not be looking over Abbas' shoulder like an annoying grandma making sure he's spending his allowance frugally. It's sad to see that the only way to proceed is collective punishment, but then again, the Palestinians collectively voted for terror, so the punishment does fit the crime. And why should Israel settle for the "lesser evil?" Israel deserves to live in peace, like any other nation in the world. If that means wiping out ALL THE EVIL, then so be it.

You say it cynically, but the fact is Hamas isn't very worried about their cash flow. So far, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iran have promised them an aid package worth more than you can immagine. Their whole deal with Israeli funds is just a drop in the bucket for them, mainly to draw media attention to the "oppressive Zionists." They'll never let go of their "poor, mistreated minority" immage. Why should they? Look how far it has brought them.
7. abbas & money
gabriel eskel ,   maoz zion   (02.24.06)
do they really think that old terrorist is more honest than other palestinians? it was that abu mazen (mahmoud abbas) who financed the terrorists who slayed israeli olympic-team in munich. even if leopard changes its spots it still is a deadley beast and so is abbas
8. Do not send money to those with charter to "kill Jews".
David Landman ,   Boston, USA   (02.24.06)
If the EU or anyone else does this, Israel should immediately drop diplomatic ties to that country. You do NOT talk to those with a charter (article 7) that calls for genocide. This is black and white. If the average Palestinian wants money he must vote out Hamas or force it to change its ways, but NOT until this happens should the PA get a single $ from anyone. This is appeasement of an Arab Nazi goverment with the SAME declared goal and Nazi Germany. While I agree the average person in Nazi Germany and the average person in the PA may not agree with the charter. It is written and as a result Hamas being elected by the MAJORITY, the majority are going to suffer. This is the downside of democracy, but it is also a requirement. You cant have your cake and eat it also.
9. It's not appeasement when the Eu sticks it to Israel
Jonathan and Mollie ,   Pennsylvania   (02.24.06)
What is it that Hamas has to say or do that will convince the Eu to stop trying to find excuses to fund the PA? The answer is that the more Hamas calls for Israel's destruction, the more the EU will fund Hamas because the EU wants to see Israel destroyed. They're just more polite about it. We wonder if the Europeans would have appreciated America funding nazi Germany in 1941. After all, the proponents of funding the nazis could have hypothesized that funding is simply a way to encourage nazi moderation and for humanitarian considerations of the German people.
10. Jonathan and Mollie
Ignatious ,   USA   (02.24.06)
The two of you are right on. Europe continues to be a viper's nest of genocidal antisemitism that is now called antizionism. The EU continues to advocate funding Hamas because they want this terrorist organization to become strong enough to destroy Israel and make sure that there is another Holocaust. Give them a chancer to become moderate. Like Castro, like the crazy Ayatollahs, like Stalin, like Hitler? Running a copuntry made them more moderate? The only thing that Jonathan and Mollie left out was the consequences for European encouragement of Hamas. Europe will play dearly in terms of blood and national treasure once Hamas turns its attention to Christian Europe.

Bravo! you just wrote what I have been "yelling" from the top of my lungs for years! But it won't happen, guess why...the Arab (oil-rich) countries don't have a clue about solidatity for their brothers and sisters. They are not only greedy but are too consumed by their hatred for us the Jews. They did not learn anything from the Israelis who rescued their People from Russia and Ethiopia and I hope soon from Iran!

You are absolutely right my friend in your comment: "because the EU wants to see Israel destroyed. They're just more polite about it. " What do you expect with a Kofi Hannan at the helm? Non Jewish People can't see that. I guess, they lack the smarts. Or if they see it, they chosse to ignore that fact. I for one, trust in G-d to protect Israel TO THE VERY END!!!
13. Go to your arab brothers for money
tl   (02.24.06)
Arabs often talk about brotherhood but lets see them helping their "Palestinian" brothers. Israel transfers $600 million a year to the Palestinian Arabs, the EU another $600 million, and the US about $200 million. That's on top of several of World Bank loans and UN support programs just to keep that shithole called "Palestine" barely afloat. In the meanwhile Arab states, with all their wealth from oil, contribute nothing. They contribute millions to Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the rest of the pigs who carry out terrorism in the name of Islam. But they contribute nothing to the average Palestinian Arab who's just looking to get by. Israel has to take care of that, to let them work in Israel, and to take serious security risks just so that Palestinian Arabs can work. Maybe it's time Arab states finally step in and inject hundreds of millions to the Palestinian Arabs, not to terrorism but to economic and social development. Or better yet why not allow Palestinian Arabs to work in Arab states just like Israel does.
