An officer empting a clip at a 'little' (teenage) girl in a restricted zone with a suspicious package (children have often been cought with pipe bombs etc at checkpoints) is the exception to the rule. I served in the IDF (in Gaza where Cochavi was the division commander)and often we were ordered not to return fire because of to risk of casualties. (What about colateral damage???) If we are so bad how about the British and American soliders in Iraq, I understand and support them 110% but Israelis are not serbians or chechnians and the list of despots and criminal states is a long one, and we don't shoot people for sport. In the end we all need to recoginze that in the news world a good or positive story does not sell as well as a sensationalized bad one can. In short one bad apple does not spoil the bunch.

I mean, dont start telling me palestinins want to throw jews in the sea or that israelies want palestinians out. You are right they are Israeli roads as defined by yellow Israeli plates on the vehicles. About a year ago a group of Palestinians (myself included) presented to the US senate a report on the road use and rights in the West Bank. Present with us was an officer from the Israeli embassy whose job was to ensure the Israeli view is also covered. To balance our presentation the officer clarified that these roads are accessible to yellow plate cars and these are not Israeli Jews only but also Palestinians that are Israeli citizens and East Jerusalemites. An African American member of the senate answered back and summed it up by saying "You are telling me that the niggers cannot use these roads but the house niggers can".

I do agree with you Yerushalim is the eternal capital of the Jewish people and AlQuds is the national capital for the Palestinians and Jerusalem is the eternal destination of Christian pilgrims. In the senate Jerusalem is a topic in the white house it is an issue and in the middle east it is a struggle.

Bethlehem is the eternal destination of Christian pilgrims, more so than Jerusalem. Al Quds was never anything significant to the Palestinians until the Jewish people returned to their homeland. Suddenly it became important. Yerushaliim is the eternal capital of the Jewish people (as you admit). It is not open for discussion. The Palestinians are struggling with themselves in that regard, because it is not, nor was it ever, theirs. So the White House, the Senate, everyone in the middle east can talk all they like and consider it a topic, but it is not a topic for the people to whom it belongs - it is simply ours.
