The current corrupt hefkerut free-for-all is destroying Israel from within as surely as Hamas wants to destroy it from the outside.

3. Lacking local representation, not a true democracy
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (02.28.06)
American police realized long ago that when they had no officer daily walking the beat they lost touch with the citizenry, leaving them unable to function. The American military has realized that when they have no boots on the ground for a given operation they are out of touch with direct intelligence, unable to function. Politicians in the American democracy learned long ago that they needed to keep in daily touch with their citizenry in order to know what the citizenry required of them. Israeli politicians haven't learned that a system of government lacking local representation isn't a functional democracy. Paqid 16, The Netzarim Israeli Orthodox Jew www.netzarim.co.il
4. It is a coup! you elected a party not an unbound heart
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, USA USA USA   (02.28.06)
Arelim commited a coup. But as an etrog who implemented suicidal leftest policy no one blinked when he assumed power with the east wind party. You allowed the 33rd on the his old party's list to assume the PMO despite his new party never being elected. Yet your hate for Jews let him exercise his hatred for lovers of the land, people of the land the best of Jews secular or otherwise. You let the coup implement a policy to demand payment for mortgages and insurance for land they were forcibly evicted from and bashed their heads for a cherry bolsivik on the top. You hate your best and have nothing but a Jew-hating dictatorship and a suicidal one at as your light to the 70 who fund your muderers from a peninsula you should enforce their right of return to.
5. G_d agrees with this, and shepherds take note
Richard ,   Victoria Canada   (02.28.06)
Re: a law should be passed to impose order "on the internal life of parties," and emphasized that parties must protect the NATIONAL INTEREST ahead of all other interests......(emphasis mine)........ the prophet Ezekiel proclaimed: Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.
6. New democratic system is needed
Richard ,   New York, USA   (02.28.06)
The first thing Israel needs to do to have a more effective government is to pass a law that says, if a coalition government is formed between consenting political parties, those parties must stay in the coalition for the full four-years term. No more of this nonsense of minor parties bringing down the government because they can't get what they want. Remember, if you can't be with the one you love, you have to love the one you're with. Secondly, Israel needs to have the country divided up into various districts, and in each district a prospective MK representative from each party will run for office. They must come before their local constituency and explain what they will do for them if elected. There must be accountability in government. No more free rides on the coat-tails of the Prime Minister.
7. To # 5
Hiram ,   tel aviv   (02.28.06)
Leave God outside this. God and religion are matters of inner faith. The best way to change the country and its politics is to go secular and appear like a " Normal" government and a " Normal " country. God has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GOVERNMENT
8. 53% in favour
chaim ,   israel   (02.28.06)
no secret that for years the population have wanted to change the system here to some kind of proportional representation. but for this to be come law 120 members of knesset would have to pass the law. which for a large majority of them would be suicidal. and as 120 people dont want to commit suicide - the law stays as it is - and the population continue to suffer and continue to feel unrepresentated.
9. to # 7
Barry ,   Tel Aviv   (02.28.06)
So, in other words, you are saying that the religious (26% according to the Kadima figures) deserve no representation. Now that is democracy. Go to it, brother
10. How does he suggest a presidential system with 20 parties?

11. And while we're at it...
RF ,   ISRAEL   (02.28.06)
Time to do away with the Office of the President. What a waste of money. A figurehead who freeloads off the public and travels the world, while he eases into retirement
