1. The Issue Is NOT "Hatred Of Foreigners"
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (03.29.06)
The issue is hatred of enemies who DELIBERATELY murder innocent men, women, and children- and those who support them. If it were xenophobia, then the right would also feel enmity towards the Druze, but this is not the case. Academics are SUPPOSED to take data and decipher it. What Peri (and others) does is take their own conclusions and THEN try to build a case around it. This is pathetic and intellectually dishonest.
2. Yishai is absolutly right
(03.29.06)
Liberman hates enemies, not Arabs, if you want to be "Humane" to your enemies dont do it at my expense, I have no interest in becoming a "Victim of Peace".
3. more secruity through disengagment from muslims
uli ,   jerusalem   (03.29.06)
it is simply not true that disengagement from hostile groups in countries did not bring more security. the difference between european rightist and lieberman ist that european rightist want to kick foreigners out from their homes to another country, lieberman don't want to kick israeli muslims out of their homes, but give their homes to the paleastinian state, which - if they would really want a "palestinian state" should be welcomed.
4. Prof. Peri's Obvious Misinterpretation.
Shmulik Gotlieb   (03.29.06)
This is not true. Mr. Lieberman did not preach ANY hatred against the foreigners. He did not touch the issue of the minorities in his speach, at all. I am afraid that Prof. Peri misunderstood, or misinterpreted what Lieberman had said in the post-electoral speech. On the countrary, himself a Russian immigrant, he promised to strengthen the position of his fellow-olim (=ascenders, immigrants) and to eradicate organized crime.
5. Re: Academics are SUPPOSED to take data and decipher it
David ,   USA   (03.29.06)
"What Peri (and others) does is take their own conclusions and THEN try to build a case around it. " Welcome to the world of Marxist critiques.
6. Bibi will be back
Addi ,   Tel Aviv   (03.29.06)
Retreat to the wall will not bring about any disengagement -'cos we are still left with 1 Million Arabs inside it. Israeli total capitulation over Yesha will sow new terrorism from them. "Whoops" - the Leftists will say, "we did not think of that"
7. Then dont whine when Jews are cleansed from other places
andrew ,   miami, fl   (03.29.06)
8. What a stupid article!!!
G ,   shomron   (03.29.06)
We want "ethnic cleansing"? Or is it that we want to live without the risks of being murdered? There is a huge difference between the two. Why not mention that our arab neighbours openly discuss a judenrein land, that is ethnic cleansing. This leftist article is exactly what the problem is. Symantics are very powerful and frame the image, it is very important to analyze the word people use.
9. To Yishai #1
Edan ,   Beer Sheva   (03.29.06)
What the professor wrote was on the money and you know it. Bibi created his own downfall and Lieberman is a racist thug. You trust this guy to be a fair minister of internal security..? What right do you have to demand that muslims living in Yaffo since before your grandparents were in Israel , be made to leave. You are a disgrace to the planet. Now you're gonna call me self-hating but no -- I only dislike you settlers(hate is a rather strong word, don't you think?), and besides I don't hate myself nor do I hate other jews. In fact, I'm all for the jews.... I Just majorly dislike the settlers...And not because of anything other than your politics...There is no more right-wing in Israel. It is only extreme right, such as yourself...Have a nice day
10. Pretty stupid article, but....
Ilan ,   Ariel   (03.29.06)
what is this distinction between "and in the West Bank, and also of sections of the Land of Israel itself". EIther it is all part of the Land of Israel and hence ours by right (to use Ben Gurion's words) or everything is open to negotiation. Does this guy really believe that suddenly in the armistice after '48 that the land became sacred at that point? Now that is a psychotic and disillusional analysis. I don't agree with Lieberman because the same adherence to democratic principles that makes me oppose throwing people from their homes as was done in Gush Katif also compels me to also oppose a discriminatory measures against Israeli arabs. There is a better way.
11. Edan hates settlers - but he himself is one!
Eilon ,   Yerushalyim   (03.29.06)
To the Arabs, Beersheva is just as much a settlement as Ofrah. Whoops - you did not think of that!
12. Edan person is sick
Yael ,   Rishon   (03.29.06)
He hates settlers - that's an entire 250, 000 people - women, teenagers, children, toddlers, pensioners. This person needs psychotherapy.
13. Edan hates settlers: Well - I hate Edan!
Me ,   Here   (03.29.06)
14. Should not cede any land
Anand Nair ,   Hardwar (India)   (03.29.06)
I personally feel Israel should not concede any land. If Israel cedes land it will embolden Palestinians and they will seek more and more land. Instead Israel should occupy the historical jewish land - West Bank, Gaza, Golan, Sinai, Suez, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. Arabs are dirty insane people. They can fuckoff to Saudi Arabia.
15. Baseless Hatred!
Michael U ,   SF,California   (03.29.06)
Please people, don't start hating your own people, especially if you are Jewish. This is the reason the Jews were expelled from Israel in the first place. I believe the onus is on the seculars, because their hatred is very misplaced. All of Israel was settled by brave and strong zionists. Why would anyone in Israel hate the people who created the very country they live in? The only people who would hate the settlers are the ultra-left wing, give it all to the Arabs kind of secular wingnut. What is wrong with these people? I am sure Hashem has a plan for these souls, but they are not in the plane of goodness and light. There is only destruction of Israel at the end of the path these left wingers are traveling. 16. As " Alberto Spektorowski" said,
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (03.29.06)
I am a crazy dude and I like dope. That was the most stupid article I have read in the last 3 years. Where do they get those spektorowski-types?
17. #7
Jane   (03.29.06)
Been there, done that. Hundreds of times over. And we always fall on our feet. So shut up, Andrew. The world never had to create UNWRA for us.
18. Edan, you hate settlers? Then you hate everyone
(03.29.06)
We are all brothers, well, maybe not you.
19. Peri doesn't get it!
Ben ,   Nahariya   (03.29.06)
Not only is virtual transfer not racist (or right wing) it is the future model for a two state solution. Territorial rights plus extra-territorial populations create 2 virtual states with homogenous indentities.
20. spin journalism
Israel Zwick ,   nyc   (03.29.06)
It's not the Jews that want ethnic cleansing, it's the Arabs. they want their "occupied lands" to be free of Jewsih "settlements", that means Judenrein. On the other hand, Israel should absorb millions of Arabs from Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon. Who's preaching hatred for foreigners and ethnic cleansing? Arabs, not Jews. Jews aren't rejecting Arabs, they're rejecting violence and intolerance.
21. Hahahaha
Hammoudeh ,   Jenin, Palestine   (03.29.06)
"hatred for foreigners" means hatred for russians (of which loonie liberman comes) ethiopians, polish. hungarians, germans, ..etc which proves yet again our demand for the right of return and self-determination. Hahaha great ideas crazies, let's go
22. Reply to Jane (#17)
sk ,   USA   (03.29.06)
Alas, Jane, we DO NOT always fall on our feet. No UNWRA was necessary because there were crematoria.
23. reply to #21
sk ,   USA   (03.29.06)
Doesn't it ever bother you that "Palestinians" have contributed absolutely nothing to civilization?
24. Even when they claim their Palestinian identity
The are Arabs ,   USA   (03.29.06)
They are still Arab and have the 22 Arab states to move to.
25. Jews can be expelled of Palestine but not muslim in Israel
Proud jew ,   Paris   (03.29.06)
Thanks fo the analysis MR Peri
26. Wrong wording
Francois ,   Paris   (03.29.06)
This is not about hating foreigners this about hating ennemies. BTW, Bibi didn't lose the election because he opposed Sharon & Kadima. He lost the election because he is a moron and a poor competitor. Most people distrust him and he didn't take any step to create confidence. Many people were pissed off at his economic policy and he didn't try to reconquer them, Likud is a despised party and he didn't try to restore Likud credibility.
27. NEVER!!!
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (03.29.06)
Haider, Le Pen, Griffin and others are purely and simply neo-Nazim. There is no place for them or their ideology in Israel. These fascists can sod off to Rwanda and try to play ethnic cleansing there.
28. Edan (#9):
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (03.29.06)
Don't worry about all the vitriol spewed at you. As the elections showed, there are many of us who feels the way you do and all the fascist venom on here is but a tree falling in an empty forest.
29. no comparison
Michael   (03.29.06)
If we say that the arabs will outnumber us, how will giving land stop that from happening? Secondly, why is it okay to expel jews but no one else. If jews could be expelled why can't arabs. Are jews less human?! 3) most importantly, La pen hates people because he has a superioty complex. The fact is , if I accidentally, drive into an arab town, any arab town, the chances of getting out alive or unscathed isn't very good. there is animosity on both sides. Israelis don't have the luxury of timesEuropean bigots like La Penhave. We don't have the time We're too busy surviving.
30. look at the reality : he is right!
david ,   T-A   (03.29.06)
here is a man who decides that some citizens of our state, chosen on the basis of their ethnic origin, will be either deprived of their citizenship by ''moving'' the border or, for the others, of their political rights. that is racial discrimination. period. to target all a population is racist. and stop to say : ''the arabs'' as if they had the same opinions. They are individuals! human beings
