1. Tell it to Shas
Piranha ,   Chicago, IL   (03.30.06)
They seem to be moving forward with coalition talks, according to news accounts.
2. Rabbis meeting = Mollah meeting
Hiram ,   tel aviv   (03.30.06)
Survival of a country , any country, must NOT be based on religious beliefs or Messianic messages.
3. Shas
Bryna ,   Rehovot Israel   (03.30.06)
Shas will join any coalition as they are not interested in politics, all they want is money!
4. Message to these rabbis
Israeli ,   Jerusalem   (03.30.06)
Kol hakavod lachem and yasher koach!! In addition to this, please go and find our Mashiach and bring him forth to us so we may follow him. Bring us Moshe Rabeinu! Bring us David HaMelech! Bring us our mashiach now, please G-d!!
5. when are the public servants going to be disciplined?
Avi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.30.06)
Democracy has many aspects, not just free andt fair elections. This group of rabbis has every right to call for whatever actions they deem fit, as long as they are within the law. What must be stopped is the Rabbis who are public servants paid from the public purse as "Chief Rabbis of towns and cities" shooting their mouths off. If they want to talk, all well and good, but not when I am paying them. Basically the whole lot of them should be fired and sent out to work. It will do the Jews and Judaism a lot of good in Israel if these people stop feeding from the public purse and have to earn their living like real teachers and leaders.
6. Torah tie with Kadima
Nathan ,   Montreal, Canada   (03.30.06)
If you add up the seats of the religious parties, they tie with Kadima. Had the Rabbis managed to get their act together beforehand, the results of this election would have been very different. Why are Rabbis denied free speech? Why is there opposition to Rabbis getting together to pursue a common purpose
7. Thank [insert whatever here]
Relieved ,   Haifa, Israel   (03.30.06)
Shun away. And go away. Have you gotten the message yet? Try actually being useful in a tangible manner and see if things turn in your favor.
8. Jerusalem's Division Will Be On Their Heads If They Join
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (03.30.06)
Hey "religious" parties - Listen to the Nobel Laureate. He knows from whence he is speaking. Mathematically he can outfox even the most shrewd Shas or UTJ political hack. Therefore, if Shas or UTJ become political whores and join the coalition, they will be directly, not indirectly, responsible for the destruction of Israel's heartland. There is no doubt about this. While they might end up "saving" Tel Aviv, they will have destroyed the reason for returning to Zion.
9. yiikes, if the nobel comittee only knew
Marvin   (03.30.06)
to whom they gave the prize ! but then they had given it to arafat too !
10. Adina is worried over dividing Jerusalem
Marvin   (03.30.06)
but hey, there must be a few jerusalems where you live that are not up for division . don't worry so much !
11. Voodoo
Michael ,   Haifa   (03.30.06)
Voodoo rabbis call up the reserves..voodoo scientists
12. "Kadima and Meretz gain another seat each"
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (03.30.06)
Oops, seems Aumann's math is a bit off. This man is yet another proof that a holder of the Nobel Prize can be just as thick as a mere mortal. Nelson Mandela--a remarkable man though he was--is another when one considers his inane pronouncements on Israel. Then there are Peres and Abas' predecessor...
13. Religion is the Opium of the People
Gary (Meretz) ,   London   (03.30.06)
These comments are ridiculous. Religion in general is totally irrational and ridiculous Whether Shas, UTJ or whatver they are should have no role in any government. Im not a Marxist but on Religion Karl Marx was totally right.
14. TO # 2 - U HAVE THE IQ OF A CHICKEN
(03.30.06)
and Mister Yisrael Aumann is a Nobel Prize winner..so shut up ur big mouth...shame on u to compare our rabbis and the killer Mullahs
15. To Marvin # 10 - The Wiseacre
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (03.30.06)
Hey Marvin, I don't know where you live, nor do I care. But get this straight bud - Jerusalem, Zion belongs to ALL Jews. Have you forgotten that little tidbit?
16. Hiram # 2
keren ,   sao paulo   (03.30.06)
I didn't read anything about "Messianic messages"here ,in this article. I just read a declaration of Love for the Land Israel and its People, and an intention to protect both.Nothing else.
17. # 7 Relieved
keren ,   sao paulo   (03.30.06)
What would you do without them in this moment? Hand over whole Israel? They are helping you. Why are you being so rude. Fight for what you believe, without offending. They are citizens as you.
18. prof. aumann
myron kirschbaum ,   lawrence ny usa   (03.30.06)
Obviously the good professor is laboring under the misapprehension that the Pensioners Party won't join the coalition which of course they will. That's why they exist to get more money for retirees and you can't do that in the opposition.
19. Religious Crzay profesoer
Palestinian ,   USA   (03.30.06)
the fact that a crazy riligious figure is a professoer does not change the fact that his crazy frantic religious . Aumann is a professor , so what , he is a crazy riligous man. If you do not know, most of Hamas's new goverment are actually professoers, but you still consider them crazy riligous. See the analogy. It does not change a thing that he is professsoer. No goverment in the world should be based on riligion or riligious parties.
20. I am very sad.....
SETTHERECORDSTRAIGHT   (03.30.06)
...that so many Jews are so SELF-HATING, like Hiram in Tel Aviv, Avi in Jerusalem, "Relieved" in Haifa, Gary (have no idea why you're proud to include Meretz with your name-?) in London and all the other self-hating Uncle Toms out there. Kol ha Kavod to people like Nathan, Adina, Keren who stand up for the righteous. I am sure you sleep better at night and can proudly face yourselves in the mirror. You self-haters are so anti- rabbis, anti-religion, anti-Jewish --- because you don't want to take any real responsiblity -- GROW UP AND FACE FACTS -- our enemies will never love you more for it - they'll just respect you less. I pray that one day, you lost souls will wake up, leave the 5th column and come back over to our side. We will be here waiting for you to re-join us. Until then, you are a sorry bunch.
21. To gary meretz
Switzerland   (03.30.06)
and opium is the religion of seculars.
22. Shas: Likud with a kippah
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (03.30.06)
That's what Shas recently declared. And the Sephardi rabbi - can't remember his name - told them not to go with Likud. After all, most Shasniks used to be Likudniks. The only halachic reason to give up land is for peace. And with more and more rockets coming down on us there is no halachic reason to even consider giving our land away! JOIN WITH BIBI IN THE OPPOSITION!
23. #20:
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (03.30.06)
You rightists are, as very often, wrong and patronizing to boot. Contrary to your opinion, I--and, I'm sure, Hiram and all the others you enumerate in your outburst--am a very proud Jew. I'm proud of my Jewish ethnicity, first and foremost. I am not religious but do recognize the importance and role of religion to Am Yisrael. The difference between people like us and people like you is that we don't have to show off our pride in ourselves by hating and wanting to beat up all those who do not share our rather narrow perspective of the world.
24. Rabbis for Pikuach Nefesh? Who are they kidding?
Daniel ,   New York   (03.30.06)
"Rabbis for saving lives?" What a joke. R' Eliyahu, as it says in the article, has ruled that you cannot give away ANY parts of the Land of Israel, ever, for any reason including saving lives. So what is he doing here pretending the issue for him is saving lives or security? Making Israeli control over every inch of the Land of Israel the supreme value, as some of these Rabbis do, is completely contrary to Torah and is 100% different from what every important Torah authority has ever ruled on the matter. Of course you CAN give up territory to save lives. Just ask Shas or UTJ. R' Eliyahu and these other Rightist Rabbonim just think they can make Torah up as they go along to fit with their extremist political beliefs.
25. "Mathematically, the Israeli left has 52 mandates..."
David ,   Yerushalayim   (03.31.06)
Wow, this guy Aumann sure is showing us why he won his Nobel Prize. Without his genius, no-one would know.
26. Hey Adina suddenly you're religious?
David ,   Yerushalayim   (03.31.06)
1. You haven't returned to Zion. Where do you get off telling others (who have) who they should vote for or what government they may or may not join? And calling them "whores" if they go against you? 2. You've stated here before that you don't even keep kosher. And you lecture the religious parties on the religious "reason for returning to Zion"? Is this suddenly a religion you believe in (or know something about) that you feel comfortable lecturing religious Jews about? Boy, you're a piece of work.
27. To Steiner
SETTHERECORDSTRAIGHT   (03.31.06)
Who said anything about hatred and beating people up? Rightists? I am not sure what you mean by that. Patronizing? Because I said that I pray for people like you? That makes me a bad person because I believe that there actually IS hope for people who are filled with nothing but contempt and disgust for their own kind? You say you are a proud Jew - tell me, Steiner, just what you mean by that? Are you proud that your great grandparents followed Judaism or are you just glad you happened to be born into a Jewish family? Or are you only proud to be a Jew because of your genes? I have news for you pal: Judaism is a RELIGION. The Jewish people are tied together by their RELIGION and their inextricable link to the land of Israel - without those, you are merely a pseudo-Jew or a descendant of Jews at best.
28. #27 You are filled with hatred
Yitz ,   Jerusalem   (03.31.06)
Your posting is FILLED with hatred. Causeless hatred. The reason for the destruction of the 2nd Temple. Your words drip with toxic venom for someone who has stated he is a proud Jew and a fan of Ariel Sharon and Kadima. Yet you call him a pseudo-Jew and a self-hater, just because you don't like his politics. I shudder to think what kind of foul language you have for someone who votes Labor or Meretz. How dare you lecture others about religion. It's clear you are not a religious person and that you know nothing of Torah. Perhaps you wear a piece of cloth on your head and go through the motions of ritual, although I doubt even that, but a truly religious person would never debase himself the way you do with your words, or commit so many aveyros as you do in the space of a short internet posting.
29. TO: SETTHERECORDSTRAIGHT
To: Steiner   (03.31.06)
thanks for telling self hater nazi steiner the way it is!
30. Someone please inform the dear Nobel winner...
Big Voter ,   Kalpi   (03.31.06)
Based on the final election results, Olmert doesn't need any religious or right wing parties to form a coalition. Aumann's call to the religious leaders is moot. Olmert can achieve an absolute majority in the Knesset with Labour, Pensioners and Meretz.
