In 1967 it was well known that the Arab states were planning to attack Israel. President Nasser was very open about it. He had massed soldiers and tanks along the Israeli-Egyptian border. He also closed the Suez Canal, which according to international law is an act of war because it is illegal to block an international waterway. Israel's strike on Egypt was pre-emptive. If you think Israel was the true aggressor then you are blind to reality. Should Israel have sat there and waited to be attacked and risked getting destroyed?

You deny that Israel attacked Egypt in 1967? And, I don't care if you try to justify it - like Navi # 34 - by calling it a "pre-emptive" attack. The fact remains for everyone to see that Israel attacked Egypt. How was it "defending" itself by attacking Egypt? You can't call an offensive action defensive without running the risk of contradicting yourself. He who strikes first is the aggressor.

We are debating such vital issues as survival of Israel and of numerous countries which are definitely attached to freedom and tolerance.

You bet Israel attacked Egypt, Jordan and Syria, what is the argument, we make no secret of it, we actually thought about it very hard for a couple of weeks before doing so. Nasser, for no reason other than his wish to destroy Israel for his own glorification, amassed an army of 200 000 in the sinai peninsula and in a rally at one of the main bases stated to the WORLD, we will destroy Israel, he asked the UN to leave and Syria started to jump on the band wagon hoping for easy meat. Why did I say we thought about it very hard for a couple of weeks. Well, in the government and in the general staff there was a heated debate as to whether we should attack and avoid annihilation or invite them in for afternoon tea. I am so pleased that logic and reason prevailed and we attacked. That is the reason I am here today posting this response to the Brady Bunch etc. Incidentally, the Suez canal had nothing to do with it because it had been closed to Israeli shipping for years, it was and is under Egyptian sovereignty. The Straits of Tiran, or Bab el Mandab was closed by Nasser, this is international waters and the only entrance to the Red Sea, thereby blocking Israeli shipping from entering its own territorial waters. This is not only illegal by any measure of international convention. It constitutes CASSUS BELLI. Yes, I repeat, we attacked in 1967 and survived. We did not attack in 1973 and were almost obliterated. Thank you Brady Bunch and others for wishing our demise, but it will not happen. Do believe me peace between Israel and the Palestinians, living side by side in two independant and democratic states is the best solution. Thank you for correcting me. I was thinking about the Straits of Tiran when i mistakenly wrote Suez canal. I thought that blocking the straits was illegal under international law, but I guess I was wrong. I also want to thank you for defending Israel.

If Israel's possession of nuclear bombs (which they do have, crafted and stored at Dimona; so stop acting as though this isn't a documented, if thoroughly denied, fact) is merely deterrent, shouldn't the same work for others? I say that every nation in the middle east should have nuclear weapons. MAD worked for the US and USSR, right? In fact, some say that Russia has already long since deployed Sunburn thermonuclear missiles in Iran for just that purpose, a counterbalance to Israel's unacknowledged arsenal - of course, this is only to assure themselves that Israel won't nuke Iran and all that tasty oil, not some altruism involving the welfare of innocent Iranians.
