Mouris, Do you have numbers to back that up with? Taking into account experiences in other "closed" or unique communities, there is no reason whatsoever to believe the incidence of sexual abuse (incl. rape) is any lower in the religious community. The level of reporting is known to be lower, but that doesn't mean the crimes don't happen.
32. Those promiscuous Haredim
Eliyahu ,   Chicago   (05.09.06)
Let me see if I understand. This type of behavior would have been perfectly all right if the girl had been 18? To Efi, #10, #19 and everyone else who made comments about the Haredi community: While it's certainly true that cases of sexual abuse exist among Haredim, this type of mass criminal activity does not exist, because their religious teachings make the Haredim who do succumb to such desires quite ashamed of themselves. Such a large group activity would be impossible among them. Saying the Orthodox are just better at hiding sexual abuse is akin to some settlers' talk of Mossad conspiracies against them. If something isn't being reported by the media in a free democratic society, that's because it hasn't happened.
33. #24: do you facts or just a feeling?
Michael ,   Tel Aviv   (05.26.06)
The tighter a group sticks together the easier it is to hide such crimes. Imho priests and the orthodox community seems to be pretty much the same. Report cases are most likely outnumbered by incidents. @main topic: hard to judge whether the guys are guilty in legal terms- depends what they really knew. My guess is more than they admit if it went on for 1 year!
