The real threat to Iran is the Kurdish national movement. It would take a chunk out of Iran, Syria, Iraq abd Turkey and place a new strategic power in the north of the region.

I served in the military from 1971-1979. That was the Viet Nam war for part of it. I remember the Iranians THEN, before the overthrow of the Shah. The Iranians thought back THEN they were supperior. They were training on U.S. Airforce bases. Even then, they always had a smirk on their faces, acting as if THEY were the Superpower, although when I observed them, they looked more like a high school marching band than a military force.The Iranians ARE INFERIOR when it comes to military competence. That's WHY they need a nuclear BOMB, and WHY their threat MUST be taken seriously. They may not be able to send a cruise missle in through a window of a building that they want to destroy, but if the missle is nuclear, then THAT kind of weapon technology doesn't matter when it comes to Israel. Their missles DO have the technology of accuracy. As Iran's President believes in the 12th Imam, who supposedly disappeared down a well into hiding in a small town in 941 A.D., in Iran, (The name of the town I don't recall at the moment, ) and believes that same Imam to be their Mahdi who will "re-appear " from that same hole, it seems to me that if Israel would send a large, conventional explosive in a cruise missle DOWN that hole and blow it to smithereens, then that should take the air out of Iran's fanatical government. No 12th Imam would be left to "re-appear" after 1065 years in hiding. And the threat of world-wide chaos, as they believe is necessary BEFORE the 12th Imam, "re-appears" would suddenly become UNIMPORTANT.
