1. Bush has his own problems
sk ,   USA   (05.17.06)
He continues to piss off 75% of the public with his amnesty plan for illegal aliens. The ONLY reason Republicans haven't been killed on this issue so far is that the Dems don't want to touch it, so it hasn't been that partisan. Bush was almost throttled when he tried to pick a crony for the Supreme Court, and though he finally did the right thing, this has damaged him. The Dubai dubacle weakened him on perceptions of his national security expertise. Iran's threats and his pointless catering to the UN is enraging his strongest allies on the Right. Gas prices ("NO WAR FOR CHEAP OIL!!!") are through the roof, and every pricey gallon reminds people that the US has paid an awful lot for liberating Iraq. Meantime, Bush still hasn't vetoed a spending bill. It's common for presidents to take a beating at about this time in their terms, but there is fear he will not bounce up in time for the midterm elections. If not, there goes the legislature. Bush must be the most stubborn president I have ever seen (which is good in some ways). He would truly be an idiot to outrage his Christian supporters by encouraging Merlot to expel Jews and give sacred land (e.g. Jerusalem and Hevron) to Muslims. One time I was watching an evangelical TV show, and the point was made that the Muslims sacked Constantinople. Do not forgive, and do not forget, indeed!
2. Agreement of two states?
Steve ,   USA   (05.17.06)
B"H The roadmap, as I understand it, proposes two states that live side by side in peace. The administrative body to the east, however, cannot live in peace on its own, with regular gang wars between various factions, and it insists on importing that MEHEM to the territory clearly under Jewish domination. This is a stumbling block in the Road Map implementation. I think the positioning "an agreement is needed" sounds beautiful but one of the sides is so internally divided that it cannot make an agreement with itself to be internally peaceful, so this is compromising that vision. The Hamas vision is so filled with hate and violence (because in Hebrew the name "Hamas" literally translates to violence), that it is preventing a meaningful agreement. What is interesting is that now the Arabs have chosen Hamas, or Violence, to be in charge, so it is more difficult for Abbas to play schitzophrenic on his own. It is more difficult for him to claim to be the PA elected representative of peace when Hamas was the elected representative of violence. This charade of territory for peace is a whole lot less convincing to the Americans than the Israelis. After all, the lesson America learned was to take more land in Iraq and Afghanastan and not let go of it as Israel did in Gaza. In America, peace was restored with that move of land aquisition and more diligent security implementation. The agreement therefore needs to be between two states in peace, the United States and Israel. These are the only nations capable of restoring hope to the middle east at this time. And the sooner the gangs get out of the picture, the better for all involved in true peace making, as far as I can percieve. Either Israel takes the complete territory, or .... what else can be done to solve the problem?
3. DON'T ASK Americans to finance EVIL JEW CLEANSING!
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (05.17.06)
Road Map architects - U.S. EU, UN, Russia, and Israel have a responsibility to the entire world to not surrender in the global jihad war waged against ALL non-Muslims. PA Muslims celebrated the murder of 3,000 American innocents on 9/11 and celebrate in the streets by the thousands when Muslim human bomb killers murder Jewish innocents Before the ruthless ethnic Jew cleansing, Islamo-Fascist religious supremacists rained down thousands of rockets and mortars on Gaza's Jewish communities. In a cruel, sadistic act, Gaza's deported Jews are forced to pay the mortgages on their homes that Israel destroyed. PA Muslims celebrated their great victory against Israel by desecrating and destroying Gaza synagogues. And constantly declare they will continue their jihad terror war to destroy Israel. STOP the surrenders to global jihad.
4. The Equivalent of Giving HALF of AMERICA to AL-QAIDA
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (05.17.06)
In an act of great moral depravity and evil, Israel’s Jews were forced to take savage PLO terrorists as “peace” partners. PLO terrorists were implanted into Israel through Oslo to commit mass murder and terrorism. THAT IS WHAT TERRORISTS DO. Every single one of the Palestinian Authority’s security services are involved in terrorist attacks against Israel. Heavily armed and trained. Financed by the nations, the PLO/PA conduct bloody, barbaric jihad against Israel’s Jews. The U.S. EU UN demand for an Islamic terror state in Israel, is the equivalent of implanting Al-Qaida into America. Arming, training, and financing Al-Qaida to go to war against the American populace and demanding half of America and Washington DC is given to Al-Qaida for an Islamic terrorist state.
5. Israel has lost it's way
Marcel ,   Florida   (05.17.06)
I give up on Israel By Joseph Farah 2006 WorldNetDaily.com WASHINGTON -- I have a reputation as one of Israel's staunchest supporters. That reputation is due to several factors: As an American journalist of Arabic heritage, I have done my best over the last 20 years to shatter the myths surrounding the Arab-Israeli conflict misperceptions based largely on effective lies, purposeful distortions and relentless propaganda efforts by Arab and Muslim regimes and their apologists among haters of America and Israel throughout the world. As a freedom-loving Christian American journalist who had the opportunity to put my own boots on the ground in the Middle East, it is obvious that the Arab and Muslim world is dominated by tyranny, fascism and anti-Semitism hardly a world we should want to see expanded. As a journalist, I found that Israel was the only country in the Middle East that respected the free press. This again became obvious recently to us at WND when our own Jerusalem bureau chief, Aaron Klein, was prevented from traveling to Syria because he is Jewish. The Jews, a people who have survived the deaths of many empires that tried to destroy them including but not limited to the Egyptians, Romans, Babylonians, Persians have only one homeland, Israel, continuously occupied by them for 4,000 years and never a nation-state belonging to any others. Yet, despite all this, I am through defending Israel at least the regime currently in power in Jerusalem, this useless coalition seemingly hell-bent on committing national suicide. Next week, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, a man I once considered, like his predecessor, Ariel Sharon, a reasonable, rational, level-headed defender of his country, is set to visit Washington with his hand out. He is asking for an initial commitment of up to $10 billion in direct U.S. aid to implement his plan for national retreat, appeasement of the global jihad and a new sellout of more than 200,000 Israeli civilians who have made their homes in historically Jewish lands in Judea and Samaria at the behest and recommendation of earlier Israeli governments. Olmert is coming here to seek administration and congressional support for a new round of "disengagement" this time from 90-95 percent of what we often call "the West Bank" and even including large sections of the city of Jerusalem, once regarded as the eternal capital of the Jewish people. He does this fully knowing that last summer's evacuation of the Gaza Strip has been an unmitigated disaster for the Jewish people, Western Civilization and freedom in general, as the terrorists from Hamas kissing cousins of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida and Iran's Hezbollah organization now control the territory and more than ever threaten the lives of Israeli citizens. He does this fully knowing that Hamas is preparing to establish a Taliban-like state through the Palestinian Authority including the new territories ethnically cleansed of Jews. He does this fully knowing that these newly abandoned lands will be, like Gaza, used as terrorist staging grounds and forward operating bases that will threaten not only Israel but neighboring Jordan and Lebanon as well and, eventually, liberated Iraq. So I'm through making excuses for Israel. I'm through trying to understand the incomprehensible moves of a self-flagellating nation. I'm through trying to point out the moral rightness of a state and a people who themselves fail to discern right from wrong. Like Jesus 2,000 years ago, I look at Jerusalem today and I weep. I know I speak for many Jews and Christians throughout the world who see Israel's surrender as a cowardly betrayal, a sign that the Jewish state puts more faith in Washington and "international diplomacy" than in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Israel has made the mistake many times throughout history of turning away from their God. the destruction of the Jews but the oppression of their own people.
6. What Bush Should Tell Olmert
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (05.17.06)
Other than the rightful and expected support for acting against Iran, the best result for Israel would be is for Bush to give him the heave ho. Bush should tell him firmly - "I have my own problems. I do not intend on angering my Republican base of over 25 million Christian zionists. I don't care what the left wing Jews in the US think, nor what they think in Israel. They don't vote Republican, any of them. You, Mr. Olmert might not care about Judaism's biblical and historical heartland, but my constituents do. You, Mr. Olmert might not care that abandoning this strategic highground will increase the Al-Qadea & general Islamofascist terror bases. You, Mr. Olmert might be willing to go against all the basic tenets of human/civil rights and international laws, that state one cannot expel people from their legal homes. It is inhumane! And for what? To give over to the jihadists? Mr. Olmert - go back home and rethink how best to protect your people and the wider war on Islamic terror. Then, come back to Washington & ......"
7. Bush's lack of support means nothing.
Preston ,   USA   (05.17.06)
Bush is owned by arab oil. He lacks the courage to truly support Israel where it really counts. He plays both sides of the street. Terrorism is OK if only happens to Jews. Plus who cares about his minimal support, since covergence won't happen until he's out of office. Both Presidential candidates will support it, regardless, to solicit the Jewish vote anyway. So, whether you like convergence or not, it's probably going to happen anyway -- with or without Bush's help.
8. Surrender is not enough
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (05.17.06)
Looks likes this proves that they want us to give up everything promises by the US are worthless. Saudi Oil seems to be at play here.
9. Do what you want, bush can't be reelected and peace is
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (05.17.06)
nowhere in sight and won't be with ham-ass killing the people that hate ham-ass. So long as ham-ass doesn't run out of bullets, Israel can do any damn thing they want.
10. rice is nice but not Bush
(05.17.06)
this patty cake between underlings like Rice and Olmert's staff is not what really goes on when heads of state meet. why even discuss these private meetings with the press. someone has an ax to grind. Sharon would not have been as clumsey and his heft would not have been dismissed. It is time Olmert fills his predecessors shoes with all the sophistication of Sharon
11. no surprise
michael   (05.17.06)
Stretegically, the convergence plan is the most thoughtless plan ever created by any government. If olmert would have given it a minute's thought he would see that. But t when the prime minister gets 29 seats out of 120 and says he has a mandate. Will he really listen to anyone? except President Bush
12. Giving HALF of AMERICA to AL-QAIDA
Michael Phillips ,   Washington, DC, USA   (05.17.06)
If I remember correctly, it was the Native Americans (the "indians" as we now call them) that we stole our land from, NOT bin-Laden and his associates. Perhaps you should remember this--and the fact that the Palestinians have a universally recognized claim to the land now under Israeli occupation--when making such outrageous comparisons!
13. #12 Nonsense
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (05.17.06)
Where have you studied history? We jews are the American Indians or PC way Native Americans of the Middle East. We were there 3000 years before the Palis were who are you to say we don't have a right and who are you to say they have a legal claim.
14. "Michael" (#12) is no American citizen
sk ,   USA   (05.17.06)
Oh please, "Michael," you're a foreigner and probably an A-rib. Any American would know that the name "indians" hasn't been used for" American Indians" or "Native Americans" for years. What a transparent fraud you are.
