1. Not possible to fine by cost of stolen vehicle? YES it is.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (05.23.06)
Put a miserable prison in the desert with small cells and no radio/no TV/ no amusement but comfortable air conditioned offices for the guards that can be seen by the prisoners. Make photos of that for the anti drug billboards and anti car theft ads. It would be effective.
2. Propaganda Crap
HIGH TIMES Magazine ,   New York, USA   (05.23.06)
I'm sorry to be disrespectful to your publication, but this article is the biggest load of propaganda shit that I have ever read. Are you owned by an anti-marijuana organization? I would suggest that you do some research on matters which you are 'reporting' on. The lies and propaganda which you help spread hurts so many individuals, and it hurts our society as a whole. This is a sorry excuse for journalism... HT Magazine
3. lethal! what a joke. but healthy only for mafia
stephane ,   tlv   (05.23.06)
and the pic show the plant are grow in soil, while talking about growing in water..lots of hysteria and bullshit from the copand the ournalist "...can cause death" this is absurd and idiotic. if you smoke that shit you will be on your ass. no violence for sure! but its all about money right, who cares if youre mastoul 10x more. LEGALIZE IT ASSHOLES!! this way you can control the quality of the distribution and avoid the problem your cited in the article. but israel knows only to repress litle grass smoker while opening doors for mafia money that finance big hothouse and pschycotic grass. weel done :(
4.  ‘death marijuana’ ??/
Chris Bennett ,   Vancouver, Canada   (05.23.06)
Raanan Ben-Zur is a liar and an American style propagandist, no-one has ever died from marijuana, no matter what potency and there is no such thing as 65%-78% THC cannabis, (an outright documentable lie - fire this liar). Cannabis is Kosher and appears in the Torah Exodus 30:23 as k'neh bosem.
5. what a load of bollocks!
josef cohen ,   bkk thailand   (05.23.06)
This really does testify to lack of education, ignorance and in fact stupidity that we all know pervades our law enforcement agencies. Now we have to question the competence of Ynet to publish such blatant hysteria. Hydroponic varieties have been common, and often the main source in the US, Canada and Europe for well over 20 years. And nothing you describe in your article is occuring in any of these extremely large and well developed markets. With so many VERY REAL problems in Israel why do you make up a problem that creates artificial competition for scarce recources? Something is wrong and it isn't the ganja,
6. COMPLETE RUBBISH!!
David ,   San Francisco   (05.23.06)
What total rubbish! This is nothing more than media sensationalism deliberately drummed up by the police. In fact the article looks more like the text of a police press conference or press release than a piece of journalism. Hydroponically-grown marijuana has been around for years all over the world. Anyone can grow it. It is generally a lot stronger than the sort of low-quality dirt-weed that's smoked in many places and that originates in dry climates like the Middle East and Mexico. But it's probably no more potent or hallucinogenic than the hash that's common in Israel and Europe.
7. 'death marijuana'
Derek ,   Philadelphia, USA   (05.23.06)
The kind of blatant disregard for the truth in this article is astounding. Marijuana has never killed a single person in over 10,000 years of recorded history. A person would have to smoke or eat 1500 pounds of it in 15 minutes to die. The average user only smokes a gram or two at the most. The potent "hydro" that they're touting as 'death marijuana' can be strong; however, people smoke until they're high, and if higher concentrations of THC (the active ingredient) allow them to smoke less, then that's a GOOD thing. The most potent marijuana strains top off around 25% - 35% THC, not "five or six times more" than 13%. Please do some research on this topic before you blindly tow the propaganda train. Also, marijuana does not cause violence. Anyone who has even one iota of experience with it will tell you that. http://www.norml.org - check it out.
8. death marijuana : )
daniel ,   london uk   (05.23.06)
This article is completely laughable and is obviously police propaganda aimed at peaceful stoners. They are talking out of their arses.........“If in regular grass the active ingredient is 13 percent, in Hydro it is five or six times more,” senior police official Yaron Ahrak said.... Where does this prick get his information from? That is just plain lies. Typical of the Israeli police - full of shit. Daniel London, UK
9. REEFER MADNESS!
MZA ,   ta   (05.23.06)

10. no way
AG ,   Negev, Israel   (05.23.06)
Never in my life have i seen a fight start because somebody was high on marijuana. If the country is truly concerned w/ violence and crime, there is a drug called alcohol which is a lot more dangerous to this world.
11. lethal?!?!?!
ari ,   israel   (05.23.06)
where did this Ahrak educate himself? He has flat out lied regarding the harms of pot use. In the course of written history there in not ONE documented case of death from smoking pot. What a schmuck...simple as that.
12. KILL THE DRUG DEALERS !
(05.23.06)
13. Yalla..! Smoke a joint and calm down..!
Dr. Greenthumb ,   Humboldt , CA   (05.23.06)
Joke of the century : Increase in "hydro" usage will lead to an increase in violent crime.... Who knows how many deaths were caused by marijuana... ?Anyone..? Take a wild guess...
14. different or not?
not of this earth   (05.23.06)
what would happen if..my merc was stolen at night while i was sleeping? then in the day while i was driving in my beetle i was carjaked by a different agressor with a submachine gun touting im not a terrorist but another mans freedom fighter?
15. israel--stop doing drugs
debra ,   usa   (05.23.06)
i cannot believe that in israel jews are doing drugs. in america, it is widely known that jews here don't do drugs or drink. what is going on over there? where are the parents?
16. Finally some decent quality stuff here with no rat poison
Chaim ,   Herzliya   (05.23.06)
17. Gov. Propaganda, there has never been one documented...
Jay N. ,   USA   (05.23.06)
death as a result strictly marijana use. Get the facts: http://www.marijuanahydro.com/cannabisissues.html I'm sorry but potheads everybody knows potheads are not violent. Go wage war on crack not weed. It's considered a soft drug for a reason... because it's soft. The worst that would happen is a pothead might steal your potatochips. The Gov. makes a killing waging war on drugs. They'll never be able to stop them entirely and they don't want to because it would cut off a huge cash flow for them. Don't believe the hype. Genesis 1:29 "And God said: 'Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed--to you it shall be for food" Learn Torah and be happy.
18. Shocking Display of Ignorance - or worse
Al Green ,   Bristol, UK   (05.23.06)
I wonder if that policeman (Yaron Arakh) stopped for a moment to think WHY plants cultivated indoors should magically become 10x stronger? Did he just swallow the propaganda hook, line and sinker, or is he perhaps quite happy to spread this sort of misinformation? The only frightening thing here, is how someone so irresponsible is allowes to carry a gun. And pose as an authority figure and a protector of the people.
19. Does Israel allow marijuana to be prescribed by doctors?
Logic ,   Israel   (05.23.06)
20. My father smokes.....
jeffie   (05.23.06)
My 57 year old father smokes hydro 3 times per week. He only gets violent when it comes to Ben & Jerry's. Me.... I agree with High Times Magazine.
21. THE PRICE OF WEED IS GOING UP?
Eli ,   Budapest   (05.23.06)
Are you, yehidot ahronot trying to communicate that people in Israel should all switch to hydro because of security reasons and because its better? TRUE. LETS DO IT!
22. Sorry to say, the potheads are wrong
Sara ,   Jerusalem   (05.23.06)
As much as I would love to get bent out of shape about the injustices this report's blaring inaccuracies are doing to the peaceful stoners of the world the larger picture has nothing to do with the habitual or recreational smokers of Israel. This sort of propaganda is reserved for the larger fight to further discredit the need to legalize the medical sale of marijuana to the sufferers of pain/nausea/and other agonies of terrible diseases and cancers that affect far more of the population than those who like to light up a splif just for the buzz. Personally, I find it to be ethically wrong to suggest that this "new dangerous plant" is anything of the sort. The facts in this article are simply wrong as proved by countless other comments. Not to mention that hydro has been effectively grown outside of Israel for so long due to the many innovative advances of Israeli agriculture. It's the true miracle of science and research, not a crime against humanity. In short, it is not difficult to discredit the stoner, to simply say a user can't be trusted because drugs are bad (see easy). But the simple fact is this article's larger agenda pushes back a societal mentality to recognize those who advocate for the proven helpful uses of medical marijuana to be discredited as radicles or drug users themselves who want to harm society with their violent rages. I have to say those in real need of the bennifits of the advances of marajuana are hardly the ones I am worried about going on murderous rages as more bleak circumstances surround their conditions. Don't believe this is about government opression of a good high or buzz, but about basic human rights and dignity which will easily be denied if reporters like this are allowed to continue to publish their garbage instead of giving open looks at growing trends. Thank you.
23. 'Hydro Death Plant'
moshe geller ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.23.06)
It's not to be believed that after all this time, ignorance combined with fear and authoritarian conditioning is producing hysterical nonsense. Point number 1: This herb and the cultivation methodology may be new to Yaron Ahrak, but that only illuminates his arrogance. The strains he is seeing have been cultivated and enjoyed for thousands of years. They have been both popular and available for decades in the United States, Canada and the Netherlands, to name a few. And indoor hydroponic growing is no novelty in the world of horticulture. Point two: 30 years ago, the Surgeon General of the United States determined and testified that there is no known lethal dosage of any marijuana, short of those plants poined by Government with paraquat and other substances. He can point to no place on this planet where anyone has died from smoking these higher potency strains. People are smoking it all day and night long in bars in Amsterdam and no one is dying. 3- It is indeed more potent. Which means, you smoke far less, receive a more refined transformation of concious awareness. Yes, marijuana come under the general rubric of psychedelic drugs, but it is not hallucinogenic, addictive or lethal. 4- As far the issue of potential increase in violence is concerned, the easiest illustration of the lie behind Ahrak's words and fears is to compare behaviour of thousands of people at football games or rock concerts, drunk on legal alchohol to that of a gathering of hippies in a park or concert, smoking grass. For the most part, the worst that a hippie might do to someone is laugh or fall asleep. 5- the worst kind of excercise of police power is that which is manifested by the ignorant, the fearful or the gullible. Ahrak has been drinking in too much of his name and is blinded by his own hysteria. He will put us and himself between Ahrak and a hard place.
24. # 15
ben - TLV   (05.23.06)
"...it is widely know that in USA jews dont do drugs or drink...." -Debra, i dont know what jews you know in USA, but give me a break..... NO COMMENT to such ignorance. This article is ludicrous!
25. fight arabs instead! what a load of crap
yair ,   nahariya   (05.23.06)
"death weed"- what is this a 1920's propoganda video? "you can fool some ppl sometimes but you can't fool all the ppl all the time" -bob marle
26. Israeli police only 20 years behind
peter tosh ,   tel aviv, israel   (05.23.06)
good to see that the israeli police are only a few decades behind the rest of the world. heres something to consider, shouldnt the Police prefer this sort of weed since its grown by jews in israel as opposed to the cheaper weed and hash thats brought in from sinai and lebanon and sold by arabs, funds arabs? just a thought... Lethal Weed? sounds good, but its laughable, theres never been anything approaching a lethal strain of weed. theres been some great ones, but never any that would kill anyone. you could say that people under the influence driving have killed people, but then you have to ask why alcohol is legal, prescription drugs, sleeping pills, etc. kidney problems and impotence, high blood pressure? this is a nation that chain smokes tobacco, everywhere, 24/7. the sad part here is that the israeli police sound like theyre straight out of the 1950s, even earlier, this is reefer madness, again. again, no lethal weed.
27. Maybe the hydro grass is dangerous
