We are a nation. That you say otherwise speaks to your lack of identity with your own people. That, dear Eva, is your problem, not ours.
32. #25....you remind of of something...
Ramzi Sfeir ,   Bethlehem, Palestine   (05.30.06)
Remember a man called Hitler? You remind me of him Why don't you come and exterminate all of us? It's the only way to make us disappear and its the only way to make your statement come TRUE! We exist, we existed before your birth and we will exist after! Clear enough ?
33. Poor Hyde.
Josh ,   Atlanta   (05.30.06)
I feel sorry for this guy now. If he is indeed a Christian. I know several of my fellow Christians have fallen for the propaganda of the dhimmi "Christian" Arabs. My wife almost fell for their BS, until I explained to her much of what I believe on the situation, plust the ultimate truth, which is, like it or not fellow Gentile Christians: Yes, Jesus entered into a new covenant with all those who will accept it. But that gives us NO RIGHT to have any say so on Israel, the land, the borders, or how it governs. The old covenant still stands. God doesn't break covenant. God gave Israel to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to their descendants. It was an ETERNAL covenant for the very real physical land. Many Christians are bad about reinterpreting the Bible to make it mean whatever they want it to mean. My own preacher tries to tell me that when it says wine, it means "grape juice." I just laugh because I don't really like wine anyway, typical Southern Baptist right? My point is that Henry Hyde doesn't have a say so, I don't have a say so. I am very interested in the Holy Land, and I'll do everything in my non-existant power to support and help Israel, and I hope they'll someday return the favor if I'm ever in a bind, but I'll never try to tell Jews what to do with their land. God gave it to them, not me. Jesus himself said that His kingdom was not of this world. Why's that so hard for Christians to understand? It seems pretty clear to me. The Father promised real estate to the descendants of the 12 sons of Jacob. The Son, never promised Gentiles any real estate on this earth or in this life. Perhaps because Gentiles already control most of the real estate on the planet? I even have a hard time convincing my own parents that the rebirth of Israel is the obvious renewal of God's promise. I've tried to explain to them the geopolitical impossibility of the event when examined against the backdrop of world history, but they still don't seem to see what I see sometimes. Oh well, I don't believe Catholicism is true Christianity anyway, so I'm never surprised when I see the Roman Catholic church criticize Israel or trying to meddle in their affairs.

giovanni ,   rome   (05.30.06)
My dear Brod, the force of the americans is their ignorance of history. They can take the high moral ground without caring for their past : for instance, you are obviously unaware of the rabid antisemitism of Martin Luther or, closer to you, of Ford who was not particularly catholic. Go to your southern states and you'll discover a cute mixture of anti black, anti jewish and anti catholic feelings...
35. Novak as friend of Israel
Martin K ,   Washington, DC   (05.30.06)
Yes, Mr. Shelah got it completely wrong -- Novak can not, by any stretch, be called a supporter of Israel. I hope Ynet publishes a correction.

Brod ,   USA   (05.30.06)
You have probably forgotten the history of the Roman Catholic church during the Dark Ages up to the present time. They invented and spawned anti-Semitism that led to the persecutions and Inquisitions of the Jews. Beyond that, they persecuted the Albigensian and Waldensian Christians and later, the Protestant Christians. WHY? Because the Jews kept the Commandments of GOD and worshipped the GOD of the Holy Bible. Similarly, the Albigensian and Waldensian Christians kept the Commandments of GOD and worshipped the GOD of the Holy Bible. The Protestants made the Holy Bible and Holy Bible alone as the foundation of their Faith and they worshipped the GOD of the Holy Bible. Martin Luther had said some unpleasant things about the Jews. However, he was a Champion for Jesus. He was a Champion for the biblical teaching that we are saved by GRACE through Faith alone. He was a Champion for making the Holy Bible and Holy Bible alone as the sole foundation of Christian Faith. When he sought for forgiveness of his sins, GOD would have forgiven him. The fact is the seed of anti-Semitism continued to grow into the 20th century that culminated in the Holocaust of 6 million Jews in WWII. And this dark spirit continues to prevail up to this day. While many may claim to be christians, it does not necessarily mean that they are True Christians. Jesus warns that not everyone who claims to be His follower will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who "does the will of My Father in heaven" (keeps the Commandments of GOD). Jesus points out that "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, ' I never knew you; depart from Me you who practice lawlessness!" (depart from Me you who break GOD's Commandments) Matthew 7:21-23. The Roman Catholic church tampered with GOD's Ten Commandments--GOD's eternal Moral Law for mankind, when they changed the Fourth Commandment of keeping the Seventh Day Sabbath Rest (which GOD instituted for mankind since Creation) to Sunday. ((see www.biblestudy.org/basicart/confsund.html). Jesus points out, "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law (Ten Commandments) or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill" (to meet the requirements of the Law and make them more effective). Matthew 5:17. Clearly, tampering with GOD's Ten Commandments and creating and perpetuating anti-Semitism, is an antithesis to the Commandments of GOD. Jesus defines the Christian journey as going through a narrow gate and difficult way that leads to life and only a few will find it. Matthew 7:13-14. While many may claim to be christians, the Holy Bible defines the True Christians as a remnant that KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD AND HAVE FAITH IN JESUS. Revelation 12:17; 14:12.
37. the fence
ANDREA ,   italy   (05.30.06)
It is true that the fence helps control bomb smugglers and other dangerous traffic in state of israel. However it ain is also creates a danger of rising anger on the other side and certainly is not a wise long term solution, but only a temporary relief. As fast as it was built it can come down.. To solve such issues as the Israeli Arab conflict much more brain is needed. Alas.
38. Robert Novak is a supporter of Israel???
Yechiel Tzvi Weill ,   Wheaton, MD, USA   (05.30.06)
Maybe the message didn't get across the Atlantic, but on this side of the pond, Robert Novak is well-known for being an Israel basher. He also has been vilified for compromising national security information, and for storming off a television panel hurling expletives when being asked about it; I suggest you pick a better role model for your argument!
39. Hyde & Novak
David S. Levine ,   Hobe Sound, FL, USA   (05.30.06)
The article's author did not write that Novak was a supporter of Israel, which he is not. The author wrote that Novak and Hyde were staunch supporters of President Bush which they both are. Hyde has been generally a supporter of israel.
40. Re: LOOOOOL
David S. Levine ,   Hobe Sound, FL USA   (05.30.06)
Khalid compared the Berlin Wall to the Security Fence the Berlin Wall was put up to keep people from leaving. The Security Frnece is being put up to keep vermin from entering, vermin such as Khlaid and other similarly named beasts.
41. security fence
Don Saliman ,   Kibbutz nNahal Oz,Is   (05.30.06)
It seems everybody is more concerned, with the suffering of the Pals, even if it means more successful terror attacks killing Israelis. Forget about borders now, that will come when and if peace is here, the fence for now is doing it's job, stopping many terror attacks inside Israel. If some of you don't like it,well too bad, to me,saving Israelis lives are more important
42. To #3: Novak: friend of Israel?
Joan ,   Haifa   (05.30.06)
No, but as I read it, the article refers to him as "a staunch supporter of President Bush," which isn't necessarily the same thing.
43. What chutzpah!
Joan ,   Haifa   (05.30.06)
Not to mention historical revisionism. Hyde blames *Jews* for the Christians' problems in Bethlehem??? I'm glad he'll be retiring after this, his last term.
44. Eva, what are you smoking?
Joan ,   Haifa   (05.30.06)
45. To #17
Joan ,   Haifa   (05.30.06)
But he *doesn't* live here, so he doesn't have to think about it realistically.
46. To Nos. 21 & 16
Joan ,   Haifa   (05.30.06)
Jane is right and, as I understand it, the army actually prefers the fence idea to the concrete barrier idea as then they can *see* what's going on on the other side. The Palestinians in certain areas keep throwing/aiming/etc. at us so much that part of the separation barrier *has* to be solid.
47. To #28
Joan ,   Haifa   (05.30.06)
It's clear that you've never lived in Israel, Eva. Not only are you far, far removed from reality in general, but you seem to have the absurd notion that all Israelis think alike!
48. Since I started reading postings, this is worst CV Ive seen.
Alan ,   SA   (05.30.06)
Thanx for telling us who these characters are!
49. These guys wouldnt even let Jesus join their Golf/Yachtclub
Alan ,   SA   (05.30.06)
50. When?
Joan ,   Haifa   (05.30.06)
I largely agree with you about the Roman Catholic Church in history. But, as I recall, the Pilgrims came to North America in the early 17th century, some 700-1200 years *after* the Dark Ages.
51. to posts 40 & 42
Shai S ,   NY   (05.31.06)
When the article was initially published, Mr. Shelach indeed referred to Mr. Novak as a staunch supporter of Israel, after all the angry talkbacks alerted ynetnews.com of this ridiculous claim (might I say rightfully so) ynetnews decided to omit that part of the op-ed. It is my belief that it was lack of knowledge rather then a mishap on Mr Shelach's part.
52. #50 Dark Ages period
Brod ,   USA   (05.31.06)
The Dark Ages stretched 1260 years commencing from 538 A.D. ,when Emperor Justinian's decree making the Pope the legal "Head of all the Holy Churches" went into effect, to 1798 A.D. when French General Berthier took the Pope captive during the French Revolution. rachel   (05.31.06)
Why is a nice "Jewish" girl like you linking to Christian publications? I don't believe you are Jewish at all. ANd if you are , who cares?Kapos have been around for ever. It does not make your arguments anymore valid. If you are not Jewish that explains your ignorance. Jewish people are called Am Israel in the Torah not Yehoudis. AS in The nation of Israel. You don't want to be part of it? No great loss, who needs another hectoring undergraduate, pseudo leftist? Furthermore. if you are really Jewish you would know about the 2 jews, 3 opinions arguments, so no brainwashing here, only knowledge with the reality on the ground which you will never experience since you are not part of this nation. Please stay in Sweden.
54. Dear Ynet, plz help us!
Sarit Ben ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.31.06)
Dear Ynet, please don’t make it harder for us to win the battle of lies we are launching against the enemies of the chosen people of God. We have been working all the time to tell the whole world that we are putting the non-Jews living in the promised land inside a fence not a WALL, and you guys put a clear picture of the WALL we are erecting and call it “fence” in the caption. Unfortunately our enemies are not stupid, so please change the WALL picture on the left side of this article with a picture of a real fence regardless of where you get it from. We have to win this battle and there is no place for morals.
55. Henry Hyde followup
MikeyD ,   Southfield, MI USA   (05.31.06)
I find it interesting that no one seems to be aware of the fact that Rep. Hyde's district numbers among its constituents the largest concentration of Assyrians in the U.S. Hyde has been a champion of their causes for years and years, even to the extent of involving himself in the internecine disputes between the Assyrians (Orthodox) and the Chaldeans (Eastern rite Catholics).
