Incontinence ?
3. Hashemite Regime
David ,   Petach Tikva   (06.07.06)
Abdullah may be a "nice guy", but when all said and done he is still an absolute dictator in charge of a a fascist (and yes, Ellen) Apartheid state where the minority Hashemites have all the money and power. Jordan is a completely unnatural entity designed by the British to help them get cheap oil. Who the hell actually cares what "the King" says. Let us not also not forget what hypocrites the Hashemites are, and that they themselves not only occupied but also annexed the entire West Bank after 1948. It is only a few years since they stopped claiming that it was part of Jordan.
4. Don't bash Jordan
Elie Friedman ,   Tel Aviv   (06.07.06)
Despite its imperfections, we should be grateful for the relatively cozy relationship Israel enjoys with the Jordanians (or more accurately, the Hasemite Kingdom). Israel's longest border is shared with Jordan, so it is essential that peaceful ties with a stable and secure Jordan remain. And we also must consider that Jordan is, in large part, a state of Palestinians. The political situation in Jordan is intricately tied to events in the West Bank. Unrest in the West Bank could easily spread across the river into Jordan, so the Israelis have a responsibility to the Jordanians and to themselves to prevent the aforementioned events from occurring.
5. Interview with King Abdullah
Connie ,   USA   (06.07.06)
"Their right to an independent state" The palestinians are now huge in number but this growth could have been spread out if the arab countries would have taken them in decades ago. "Jordan is Jordan", and Palestine is Israel.
6. abdullah supports the referendum?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.07.06)
well, i have a feeling that even if the palestinians reach a national consensus from a referendum, their unified position will still be a non-starter as far as israel is concerned. the problem is that with a national consensus comes the most rigid inflexibility from the palestinian position. and we thought the palestinians were stubborn and inflexible before. just wait if there is a referendum and you'll see what inflexibility really is.
7. Abdullah is concered about the fate of his kingdom
Caligula's Horse ,   Solomon's stables   (06.07.06)
It's existence as a Bedouin monarchy forcing it's dictatorial will on a 85% Palestinian majority will not continue forever, he believes that the establishment of a Palestinian state would prevent his Palestinians from revolting, but he forgot that with the food comes that appetite, my advice to Adbullah is to learn the legacy of his father king Hussein, especially the legacy of his relations with the Palestinians during 1970...
8. Jordan is 4/5ths of British Mandated "Palestine"
Rob ,   UK   (06.07.06)
Therefore Jordan is more "Palestine" than it is "Jordan." This non-elected buffoon just doesn't want Hamas running amok in his country. Which is exactly what they'll be doing once the security barrier is finished.
9. The settlers oppose pullout too, lets just not do it then.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (06.07.06)
Granted that would make the traitors at no-peace ever unhappy. It would make the far left almost-Jewish like Olmert very unhappy at not appeasing the terrorists. It would make the terrorists happy because the only job they know is killing people and they don't want to be unemployed. So long as "Kill the Christians and the Jews" is part of any violent cult, Israel will never be at peace with the arabs of any flavor.
10. Consideration coupled with reality
Arie   (06.07.06)
While King Abdullah is the most moderate of Arab leaders, his priority is NOT Israel but keeping the palis from fermenting revolution in his kingdom. Wherever they have gone, they have sought to destabilize the existing government: Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan, and now Iraq. We must and will follow our security needs (providing we get rid of Peretz whose concern appears to be how soon we can surrender). With that, and accepting that we have NO peace partner amongst the palis, a unilateral decision and border establishment is the ONLY option!
11. Excellent postings 3,4,7,8
Hilda ,   USA   (06.07.06)
SDome excellent postings. Abdullah is waiting and watching carefully and worriedly because he knows that most of his population are Palestinians and that his kingdom is a manufactured one and just as his father depended on Israel'smoves so too does he. He knows that if the "militants" so named by the media are just as eager to overrun his kingdom as they are to take over Israel and that if G-d forbid they take over Israel, he is next. He, like his father hopes Israel will stop them by whatever means but of course he will not say so.
12. Muslims ALREADY HAVE a PALESTINIAN STATE-Jordan
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (06.07.06)
In 1922, Britain illegally gave 80% of Jewish Palestine to Muslims. The area became Jordan, GIVING MUSLIMS AN ARAB PALESTINIAN STATE on Jewish land. Jordan is part of ancient, Biblical Israel, and along with present-day Israel, including Judea, Samaria, Gaza and the Golan was recognized by the League of Nations as the Jewish homeland. The so-called Arab-Israeli conflict - the Arab war to exterminate Jews - is part of global jihad. Oslo-Road Map and all the agreements greatly empower and encourage global jihad. Muslims declare openly they want all Israel and the entire world subjugated under Islamic rulers governed by sharia law. People around the world look to Israel, on the frontlines for the battle for freedom, to stand strong against the onslaught of global jihad - not to surrender Jewish land to global jihadists. End the betrayal of Jews and all non-Muslims. Stop the surrenders to global jihad.
13. Jordan's ties with Israel is a very good thing....
Andy   (06.07.06)
whatever the history (Jordan as Palestine, blah, blah, blah). The reality is that there is relative quiet in Jordan and there isn't in the territories. If Jordan can help the Palestinians move past Hamas and to the negoitating table with Israel that would be great. Whatever happens from there, who knows....

18. #15, whats so funny...its fact. You really didnt know?
David ,   Boston, USA   (06.07.06)
Do you know what historical Palestine is? It includes both sides of the Jordan river, and depending on some maps, from Ottoman Empire times also parts of Lebanon and Syria. Lets just look at both side of the Jordan River as historic Palestine. The east bank was given to the Muslims and the West bank to the Jews. About 78% of the land went to Arabs and 22% to Jews. That also corresponds to approximate population of the area for the past several hundred years. now why the British had to cleanse Judea and Samaria of Jews also until it was reclaimed by Israel is shameful on the British. Whats so funny about the truth? That it is what will happen soon anyway. Stop trying to create a second arab Palestinian state when it doesnt belong.
19. Victims?
Laura   (06.08.06)
Since the palestinians themselves elected hamas, how can he consider them "victims" of the situation? And with regard to his statement about palestine being palestine and Jordan is Jordan, actually Jordan is the real palestine.
20. `The king opposes
Bachrach Andres ,   Kfarsaba il.   (06.08.06)
In our common history with jordan not a few times occured that israel needed to defend the kingdom from the annihilation from different arab countries.Israel WAS alvays interested in the integrity of this hashemita kingdom. So israel anderstand that the king is against the pullout of the israelis from the westbank.I am personally not a statesman but i would advice the king to begin to build his Westwall.
