1. Why, it's a perfectly clear document.
Benjamin ,   TA Israel   (06.07.06)
I have no difficatties to understand it at all. It's really simple: Palestinian don't want any compromise. They don't want to give up right of return, they don't want divide Jerusalem, they don't want any territory exchange. They want everything, they want it now and they want it for free.
2. Marwan Barghouti is a convicted Murderer
James   (06.07.06)
the only thing "veteran journalist" Ray got was that "Palestinians" are pre-pubescent when it comes to anything serious.
3. Mass murderers should be quitely eliminated
Dudu ,   Kfar Sava   (06.07.06)
This means: No Barghouti No Dahlan No Abbas No Hamas = No Problem
4. But is it true?
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (06.07.06)
Your restated version seems to read from a fairy tale rather than anything I have actually seen happen... I always thought it had been Israel that had made major concessions, and the Palestinians who rejected reason. And that's no fairytale; that's historical fact... I know people can understand all that!
5. Only the stupid Jews would not only allow
Roger ,   USA   (06.07.06)
the enemies like Hanania to use the Jewish press but also define the murderers political prisoners.
6. I will have to agree with you this time.
atmawi ,   Historic Palestine   (06.07.06)
Yeah, We the palestinian have a problem of focus, and head to the point. Unfortunately our educated people escape the pressure, and enjoing living 10000 miles away from home. Although they watch us on TVs every night may be, still they will never feel the pain a GAZA women felt many times. They can not judge us 10000 miles away. Mr. hanania, come back, your country needs you. If you do not pay duty, you are no better than ...well....you know.
7. this article is unclear and doesn't come to the point either
michael ,   tel aviv & london   (06.07.06)
what is being said here? it rambles on and after having read it I have no idea of what the writer wants to say except that Palesinians have a problem expressing themselves and that he is Palesinian. "Ray Hanania is an award winning Palestinian American author and journalist." Which awards ?
8. Their only heroes are murderers
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (06.07.06)
The Palestinians' only heroes are murderers, their only objective is to kill all the Jews and steal the land of Israel and the fruits of the Jews' labour for themselves, the only things they are capable of are hatred, incitement, terrorism, murder and barbarism. If they had a state it would be a complete failure and they would expect to live on freebies from the international community for ever just as they do now, they are already awash with money, absolutely swimming in money (more than $6 billion donated by EU in past six years alone), this has of course been used for terrorism with the full complicity of the EU and the UN. Hanania's document is full of lies, the only truth in it is that "people can understand" exactly what he means by it.
9. To Mr. Hanania
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (06.07.06)
I find it funny that, although you are a Palestinian too, or at least claim to be, you speak as if you are in someway enlightened and different from them by saying "they" have a narrow world view, distorted by emotion, and don't see the whole picture. You are right about the Palestinians' skewed world view, but don't for one second think your view is any different. You too speak from your heart, and not from your brain. You conform perfectly to the Arab method of delegitimizing Israel through propaganda and false accusations. For example, saying that the Palestinians have accepted Israel's right to exist in the pre-1967 borders is not true. Palestinian acceptance of Israel's right to exist translates to the end of terrorism, since terrorist or radical Islamic ideology clearly calls for the complete destruction of Israel. With the numerous terrorist organizations running full steam in the PA, and Hamas leading the government, I find it difficult to see the acceptance of my state. Furthermore, even the Palestinians that do recognize Israel's pre-'67 borders only did so after 3 failed wars were launched against us. They finally realize what the radicals still haven't, that Israel is here to stay. You see Ray, if it were up to the Palestinians, I would not exist. Am I therefore supposed to grovel at their feet because now some of them are doing me a favor by saying, and I emphasize the word "saying", that I can exist now? Your true bubble of a reality comes through when you said that Marwan Barghouti will be the next Palestinian Moses. Comparing a known terrorist, who worked before he got locked up to kill as many innocent people as possible, to Moses is simply absurd, but thanks for the clarification of where you're coming from. Unlike what you claim, Israel has offered to recognize Palestinian sovereignty several times to no avail, but I guess you forgot to mention that. Actually, I think you just decided to leave that out because it makes your propaganda "article" sound a little better.
10. i didn't know solzhenitsyn was a multiple murderer
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.07.06)
and that he also supported and facilitated terrorism. there goes my high regard i had for solzhenitsyn.
11. Ray said it
gm ,   south africa   (06.07.06)
Firstly he admitted that you can't reason with 'palestinians' because (a) they can't see the bigger picture and (b) they make ineffective statements and their speech is "cluttered with all the usual rhetoric and emotion" i.e. they rely on propoganda. Secondly he admitted that 'palestinians' don't recognise Israel's right to exist, when he stated "Palestinians have made major compromises, including recognizing Israel's right to exist in the pre-1967 borders." Where would they like Israel to exist? Obviously nowhere. And it is for these reasons that the 'palestinians' are not a partner with which to negotiate peace. This is not a 'palestinian' phenomenon, it is a muslim one.
12. First sentences
Elliott ,   Tel Aviv   (06.07.06)
Ray writes about the 134 word opening sentence of the prisoners' document: "I knew there was a problem the moment I read the first sentence." How fitting. I knew there was a problem the moment I read the first sentece of Ray's latest article. "In mid-May, representatives of the four major Palestinian factions who are all political prisoners held by Israel released a document calling on Palestinians to unite." Calling Barghouti and the rest of the blood-stained murderers 'political prisoners' does only one thing, Ray. It exposes you for what you are: a terrorist sympathizer who feels that Jewish and Israeli blood has no worth whatsoever, whereas palestinian blood is of a higher moral authority. Thank you for making it so easy to disregard everything you wrote here. Much like Barghouti and his band of terrorists, you managed to do it in the very first sentence.
13. To Ray about Solzhenitsyn
Alex ,   usa   (06.07.06)
What do you know about Solzhenitsyn Ray? He hasn’t killed anybody. Plus I doubt he would ever speak with so miserable man like Marwan. After all Solzhenitsyn never consider Arabs as source of world culture or scientific progress.
14. Hanania, you dropped the most important sentence
Caligula's Horse ,   Solomon's stables   (06.07.06)
"Preventing our people from exercising its right of return." Now, this sentence may seem trivial to some, but to us, it is decisive, and on this the world will fall and rise. Both Arabs and Jews know that "The right of return" is a softer rephrase for "the destruction of Israel", dont try to deny it, every person who understands something about this conflict knows it. Unfortunatly there are very few people who do, and even more unfortunatly, those people who dont usually fall to the well built Arab propoganda machine, you see, that sixth sense of yours is not only for "suffering, frustration and hopelessness" but for exploiting that "suffering, frustration and hopelessness" in your favour, I give you an 100 for that. To me, and to every knowledgeable person, it is very clear, Barghouti is a homocidle terrorist, convicted in a court, mind you, "The right of return" is an Arab keyword for "destruction of Israel" and "the prisoners' document" is the same Palestinian mentra of itbach al yahud wrapped in silk for propoganda purposes. For the unknowledgable though, Barghouti is a pacifist freedom fighter and political prisoner comparable to Nelson Mandela and Alexander Solzhenitsyn, "The right of return" is a justified Arab right because Israel invaded Palestine in 1948 and forcebly expelled the Arabs and "the prisoners' document" is a brave note demostrating the peace-loving of Palestinians and showing the Israeli peace-refusal and agressivness. There are also other things that the unknowledgeable (can I say ignorant?) believe, for example, they believe that Israel started the six day war in order to gain territory, that the sabra and shatila massacre was commited by the IDF, that the Israelis delibiratly stopped the Oslo process, that the bombing of the Osirak reactor was unjustified, that occupation is the reason for terrorism, that the Mossad planned 9/11 and other brainwash pearls produced by the Arab propoganda machine.
15. First sentence is nothing compared to the last
Steve ,   USA   (06.08.06)
B"H Ray, your translation of the first sentence of the prisoner's document is not a sentence, and this is so symptomatic of the problems Israel has encountered in negotiation. Israel starts talking on motivation, gets some introductory clauses, and bingo finds out that there is no subject, no verb, and no object to relate to. It is a negotiation of prepositional clauses! You cannot really blame this on Jews. Hamas states that it wants to murder Jews clearly in its tranlated document, but it does not state how it solves its internal problems which are far more serious ( http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/mideast/hamas.htm ). These problems include schooling in the grammar of clear thought versus emotional suicide bombing! In the full version of this prisoner's document, the last and very clear sentence is, "Note: The Islamic Jihad Movement expressed reservations about the point related to negotiations." ( http://www.washingtoninstitute.org/documents/44770f41029f4.pdf ) How, as someone loyal to the Arab cause, do you expect a just settlement like that mention of an internal Arab problem blocking dialogue? The only consensus that any serious reader (not trying to escape prison for murder) can come to is that this prisoner's document is a non-starter because of the nebulous way it is written. Even Hamas does not like the writing style! And this is about as far as the negotiations should carry outside of the prisoners who formulated this. This version needs to go to the trash can because another system needs to be put in place that is more organized. It is not like we Jews do not have a problem expressing ourselves; we do, and we are going to get some great writers together so at least there are a few complete sentences on YNET towards a true resolution to the issues that have plagued our people for a few mellenia. In the meanwhile, Ray, push for some real education for your brothers and sisters so that the frustration does not get in the way of the peaceful resolution to their internal problems. That is what you can do for peace, Ray. Volunteer to educate some children on how to think clearly instead of bombing and murdering themselves, and I think that will go a long way in helping the negotiators think clearly on what is really in their interest. Peace comes after "Sentences Now" for these confused murdering Arabs!
17. Barghouti is not a political prisoner
Jonathan ,   Atlanta, USA   (06.08.06)
Ray, Barghouti is in jail because he killed people, not because of his political views. Is he, perhaps, your pebble in the road?
18. my bird was dead
lili ,   aman   (06.08.06)
i forgeted it under the sun in the garden with a little water it was too hot after two houres it was dead it is like the palastinians left them in a cage under the fight with little aids to live yes the world waiting for the death of the people it is the breif
19. Ray is a Confused Writer - Missed the Point
Rafi ,   Land of Clarity   (06.08.06)
Marwan Barghouti is a terrorist. This is a simple sentence. He and his buddy terrorists wrote something that demonstrates who and what they are. That is confused and distorted people who can not find another way to live except for killing. Let them rot in jail and if he is your hope for Moses, I should pity you Ray.
20. To Caligula's Horse - You forgot another Arab propaganda
Jenny   (06.08.06)
piece - you know the one that said 4,000 Jews did not show up to work on 9/11. LOLOLOLOL. They will believe absolutely anything and I mean anything. And don't forget Osama Bin Ladin works for the CIA and Mossad. That's one of my fav's.
21. Bargutti is no Moses and Hnooonia is no Hemingway.
Ron ,   LA   (06.09.06)
It's not the message but how you deliver the message that is important. >>> Your must know. Your message is sloppy at best. Palestinian Moses? Moses gave 10 commandments for Jews in less than 134 words; you can count at your own time. Now you compare this idiocy with Moses?. What else? Hanania is a new Thomas Friedman?<<< The goal of a debate is not to win the argument, but to win the audience. >>> Looks like you are going from failure to failure, how many did you "win"? Can one find more pathetic, as "comedian" without sense of humor?<<< In the West, perception is reality.>>> and in the East it is not? Read 1001 nights for some reality. You will find lots of tales and fables about "palestinians, ET, marsians" Hnooonia, why don't you go and learn a trade ( plumbing or roofing is not too bad) instead of wasting our time?<<<
22. If you serving "Life" you got time to write long sentences!
Alan ,   Sa   (06.09.06)
23. Ray, you are wrong
Hilda ,   Hildar2@aol.com   (06.09.06)
As usual Ray you are wrong. the Palestinian Arabs hve communicated loud and clear. They want Hamas and terror because what they want is the end of the State of Israel and the Jews. There is very little difference between them and the nut in Iran. The difference is that Iran will have the nucleur power to execute their judgement if we don';t get to them first and fast
24. You to have failed to communicate in your re-write
Yehuda ,   USA   (06.09.06)
Ray, your rewrite is also emotional. The following is what you need to say: "Palestinians have a right to sovereign statehood. Some Palestinians have recognized Israel's right to exist in the pre-1967 borders but Hammas, the democratically elected government, does not." "Palestinians must choose new leaders who can make the Palstinian state a reality by creating a genuine negotiated peace with the Israelis that both nations can live with."
25. Palestinian Journalism
STEVE ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (06.12.06)
I read your article with interest and I would assay it like this. Compared to what I perceived to be your object you have become like the pebble. When you advertise Mr.Barghouti as a Palestinian Moses you have become as thick as a brick. When you say Palestinians cannot articulate their thoughts you have become a stumbling block for your people. Palestinians need leaders you say. They have leaders. Their leqders though need many things. But in this Article you certainly are not the one to give their leaders what they need. What they need is to denounce Armed Struggle. That is the only barrier to peace and to negotiations about the shape and form of peace. Shall a majority of Palestinians elect Islamic polity or Liberal Democratic polity. Shall Islamic culture become more intrinsic in Palestinian Government and Politics? Or shall Islam find its most accurate expression in religion and the specifics of personal mental conscience only. For the International Bill of Human Rights can cover every sentence, paragraph and definition of social justice you can cite. Do your people a favour. Stop under-estimating their intelligence. They are all endowed with reason and conscience. But the Mass Media, and this includes the art and articulate speech of journalists, is a fundamentally commanding part of their social and political and their social psychological apparatus. We need people to call out in their streets for an end to Armed Struggle. We cannot waste time debating pebbles. There are more important things to discuss. Like wealth creation. So let’s begin to struggle with words.
26. hostility as usual
nya ,   london   (06.20.06)
Hamas wants the obliteration of the jewish people, i classify that not as freedom fighting (no prosaic Moses here) but as complete and utter extremist terrorism. I do not, however, classify that as an islamic issue. Yes, the palestinians are too busy self flagellating themselves verbally with the long convuluted phrases of whatever painful and suffering solliloquys that they can muster. Israeli's on the other hand only see evil terrorists everywhere- yes the arab world and israel are at odd ends of the scale, but what can you do? whine and complain of your unfortunate position for the rest of eternity? both sides here are as unhappy as the other, needing each toher to have a good reason to hate. Guess what, you are all pebbles.
