1. Remove the cancer of Gaza
James ,   TA   (06.15.06)
I agree with most of the author's points to cut Gaza off from Israel's water and electricity supply....let them turn to Egypt for their hand-outs. Gaza should be treated as a foreign entity that we have no responsibility for.....our only contact with them should be thru a Hellfire missile launched at Qassam rocket crews and their handlers.
2. Truth, but do we have balls? Unfortunately NO!
Ron ,   LA   (06.15.06)
Good thinking. I hope Olmert reads it.
3. How about Palestinian taxes Israel withholds?
wider perspective   (06.15.06)
4. even in divorce there is alimony
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.15.06)
as long as the ties with the palestinians are to israel's advantage, why not keep them? qassams hit the power station, cut off their power until it is fixed and they pay for it. if they have no hospitals, israel can control the situation to its advantage - make the sick go to egypt if they don't like it and don't want to build their own hospital. there are no connections with the palestinians that israel completely controls that are disadvantageous. the palestinian fear is that israel will cut the connections, which is a weak position to be in.
5. This guy is joking
Yariv ,   Tel Aviv   (06.15.06)
Very soon the long range missiles will arrive in Gaza that can hit not only Tel Aviv but also Haifa. This guy is so stupid that his piece is a joke. When the firs large missiles land in Ramat Aviv HE will be gone.
6. Israel keeps supplying Gaza with electricity
Jew ,   Eretz Israel   (06.15.06)
Even as rockets are falling on the precise power station in Ashkelon that supplies it. If that's not insanity, then I don't know what is!
7. #3
J K ,   NYC, USA   (06.15.06)
How about we use it to pay their water bill, their electricity bill, increased security costs because they send missiles and bombers to us. They can have whats left over. the should be using the monies they are bringing in suitcases to start to put together and infrastructre and maybe build a desalinization plant because I hope I hope I hope Israel turned the tap off soon. No reason to give basic services to a group of people trying to kill you. They want to be unoccupied? There you have it! Build your own power station. Provide your own water. Good luck!
8. Ok. let divorce the arab settlers...
Uziel   (06.15.06)
but the family home is ours. Send them to the property of their forefathers...
9. divorce Gaza
Israel Zwick ,   nyc   (06.15.06)
It will never work, Israel can't divorce themselves from neighbors, there are too many common issues. The appropraite goal is for the international community to teach the Palestinain Arabs that their only hope for survival is peaceful coexistence and mutual cooperation with Israel, or leave and go to another Arab country
10. Great Perspective
Eduardo MIssri ,   Israel   (06.15.06)
This article explains exactly what Israel needs to do and Dr. Bechor is 100% correct when he states we should divorce the palestinians. Before that however, Israel needs to make sure that the West Bank is also withdrawn and separated from us. If they want to be Independent let them stop depending on us. Gaza and the West Bank should be treated exaclty like Lebanon and Syria. The palestinians want to be Independent, lets give them their independence see how well they will do. Greetings to Dr. Bechor, your class is the best this semester! keep it up.
11. Extraordinary article.
Aida Strocovsky ,   Winnipeg, Canada   (06.15.06)
Let's for once treat them as adults; they voted Hamas, they will have Hamas; they have to provide a future for themselves. We need our self determination. So we can define ourselves as who we are and defend ourselves efficiently.
12. We Know Two Things About This Writer
Dan Friedman ,   NYC, USA   (06.15.06)
1. He doesn't live in Sderot. 2. He doesn't live in the north.

You seem to contradict yourself. You say that the PA tax money should be used to cover their water and electricity bills and at the same time you are against providing these services to Palestinians.
14. Palestinian taxes
Yaakov Noach ,   New York, USA   (06.15.06)
Why not use the Palestinian taxes that Israel is holding to compensate victims of Arab terrorism?
15. #13
Dov ,   Israel   (06.15.06)
there is no contradiction #7's post. the tax funds can be used to pay the current debt for electricity, water, outstanding bills etc. at the same time the government of israel can state that after a certain date these services will no longer be provided to the PA.
16. To #14, Narrower Perspective
Jake ,   TA   (06.15.06)
There was no contradiction at all...the PA Tax money should be spent on unpaid water, electricity, security bills, lawsuits from families of terror victims, etc...... at some point (hopefully in the near future), all of the utilities will be cut off, so the PA will not owe any money to Israel. The PA can live in the dark like their Taliban brothers-in-arms or beg to Egypt to connect them to their power and water supplies. The PA managing to build its own infrastructure is unimaginable at worst and laughable at best.
17. To Eduardo Cabron Missri #10
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (06.15.06)
Dr. Bechor didn't speak about the West Bank on purpose because it's a whole different story and, personally, I don't think anybody has the answer to it (Olmert claims to, but he's a joke). Disconnecting from Gaza is easy because of simple geography, and even then we still have problems with Kassams. "Divorcing" the West Bank is ridiculous because those same Kassams will be able to reach every major population center and strategic location in Israel. Plus, they'll start importing more sophisticated weapons from Jordan, just as they're doing now from Egypt. "Divorcing" the West Bank is a mistake, at least in the current situation. But I do agree with you on one thing... Dr. Bechor's class is the best this semester ; )
18. Is this doc completely stupid?
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (06.15.06)
Gaza must be liberated and all Arabs sent to Sudan, Egypt, or Saudi Arabia where they came from. Perhaps this will happen after Arabs will kill a few people.
19. #15
wider perspective   (06.15.06)
So after the bills are paid and no water or electricity is provided will Israel leave tax money to Palestinians?
20. #3
rob ,   canada   (06.15.06)
Hey #3, when the media talks about taxes for Palestinians they mean tax collected in Israel for the Palastinians. Remember that the "inifidels" are the only ones keeping schools and hospitals open.
21. #19, very limited perspective
James ,   TA   (06.15.06)
If there is any money left (which I doubt because of the huge utility debts, the security bills, the lawsuits from terror victims, etc) then yes.... but once the real 'divorce' happens, Israel will not collect taxes for the PA because Israel will have NOTHING to do with the PA.... don't you understand the concept? the PA will "grow up" and take care of itself for the first time in all of history.
22. Do you think you're funny #18?
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (06.15.06)
23. Finally
Allan ,   Delray Beach, FLA   (06.15.06)
Someone who is making sense. Get as far away as possible from Gaza and let them rot in their own shit.
24. #3
(06.15.06)
What about the taxes? It's money owed for goods and services not paid for.
25. #13
J K ,   NYC, USA   (06.15.06)
Not a contradiction at all. The funds are used to pay their outstanding bill, and once that has been paid in full, THEN turn off services. No more going into debt...everyones a winner. Except for the 'Palestinians' I guess.
26. I agree 1000%
Jenny   (06.16.06)
Why is Israel playing games? Either they are in or out. Period. Do not provide them with any services and do not give them the opportunity to work in Israel. This is another very serious issue that Olmert and Peretz would like to sweep under the carpet.
27. a half-stupid doctor
sk ,   USA   (06.16.06)
Of course electricity, water, employment, and everything else that might benefit the "Pals" should be cut off. But if ilmert & parrots will not even respond seriously to kassams, how likely will they be to follow such advice? And if Iran & Egypt can persue their war against Israel by supplying the "Pals," why will they not do so? Israel will have to return to Gaza because ilmert and parrots will not destroy the entire leadership stratum from the air for fear of killing some "Palestinian" moppets and "innocent" civilians. Kill enough key people from the air, lay seige to the rest, and prevent/expel enemy journalists and "human rights workers" from the area (especially the Jewish ones). Anyone who seriously thinks that the Pals can be left to "rot in their own shit," as if that shit will not inevitably flung at us, is being foolish. Disengagement was idiotic from the beginning, and the results are exactly what was expected by anti-expulsion analysts (e.g. Caroline Glick).
28. Gas, Gas, Gas! Even more important!
Mitch ,   Boston, USA   (06.16.06)
After water and electricity is cut, which it should be, the terrorist infostructure will still be the ones with the generators, bottled water, etc.. They come to a grinding halt when THEIR gasoline is interrupted. Remember? This is the divorce cutoff that really forces the issue. The article is clear. All out war means ALL OUT WAR! I'm so happy to see some intellectual clarity in Israel. Can any of you talk to Olmert?
29. And what about the seaport and the airport ?
(06.16.06)
30. To #13
Joan ,   Haifa   (06.16.06)
So what are you saying here? That Israel should stop supplying water and electricity to Palestinians -- immediately? OK.
