Last week, two girls were saved from a kidnapping and we read just yesterday or maybe the day before about another girl who jumped out of a car because she felt she was being abducted after accepting a ride. Maybe you don't know that many Israelis cannot afford to buy or run cars ($6/gal gasoline) and that buses run only infrequently if at all between homes and schools, etc. Schools do not provide buses for students like in the US, but parents have to arrange it separately and it costs, too. Reality is it would be great, but there are sacrifices for Jews to live here and one is taking risks with our lives and even our children's lives every single day. I know what you're talking about - having lived in Israel for years - and also being a citizen. However, never would I have attempted to hitch-hike in an Arab area. I agree with you that it is difficult to get around. Perhaps there should be designated hitch-hiking areas which are guarded, and hitch-hiking is forbidden outside of them. Perhaps more regular buses would help. But I stand by my proposal that haphazard hitch-hiking should be forbidden. BTW those roads weren't built by YOUR tax dollars but by the tax dollars of those INSIDE the green line. And maybe the neighbors wouldn't dislike you so much if your friends quit destroying their property and trying to force them out of their homes? When I lived in Israel after the 6-day War nobody thought of "annexing" the territories - that craziness came later.
