Hanzala ,   Jerusalem-Palestine   (07.05.06)
It is unfortunatly that the minority in the IL society believes what you think. You just need to read few comments and you can build your own opinion about the way of thinking in the IL society... It is time to change.... regards j.
5. Thank you Arik!
Jasmine   (07.05.06)
I would like to Thank you Arik for your honesty and intergrity and above all humanity! whats going on inside Israel prisons is a shame to a country that keeps ranting about democracy. hundreds of childrens are being kept in prisons..it is a crime... i read and heard horrific stories about detentions in Isreali prisons.
6. Mr.Diamant's says that he doesn't know.
David M. Arlan ,   Rehovot Israel   (07.05.06)
Because he doesn't know who or why a certain Palestinian is ordered kidnapped it must be wrong. What right does the interrogator have? Is he more educated? Mr. Diamant is apparently one of those who believe that Israel can give up and declare itself the winner.
7. I will serve in the Reserves
Akiva Rogers ,   Chicago, IL   (07.05.06)
My family and I are coming in December, 06 on aliyah. Let me join your unit to replace you. We can then deal with terrorists, whatever their age. You can come to Chicago and wet yourself here.
8. amazing
cordier   (07.05.06)
tell me arik what do you expect ? That palestinians terrorists will see the kindness of israelis with so emotion that they will have a feeling of mercy... I remember you that for palestinians the "territories" include tel aviv and haifa and their goal stay the destruction of israel and the islamisation of palestine first step of the islamisation of the world. If you think that sionism is a problem go to france you will see that islamisation is the real problem...

10. Arik you are a Jewel
Al ,   Geneva. Switzerland   (07.05.06)
Im glad to hear such opinions and Im sure many israeli agree with this courageous opinion. The main problem is that the war mongers and racists are terrorizing people who have these opinions. They accuse them of being anti-patriotic and in fact there is nothing less patriotic than defending the State of right...
11. Ok dear
betty avon ,   Sbarro pizza Israel   (07.05.06)

12. Diamant and the abused child syndrome
Zionist ,   Israel   (07.05.06)
When a child is mistreated, he feels he is "bad," and that if he changes his behavior and becomes "good," than the person who is mistreating him will "like" him more and stop mistreating him. This stems from the child's conclusion that he can either give in to the constant abuse and give up hope, or strive for change and a better future. Of course he'll choose to hold on to hope, otherwise, what else does he have? The thing is, the child blames himself for the abuse, and therefore thinks that if he changes it will stop. He never realizes that the abuse he is receiving has nothing to do with him and he doesn't know that changing himself is not only useless, but very damaging. Although this is a well known psychological analysis for abused children, the same is true for adults, and even for whole countries. When a country has been besieged by terrorism for so long, people start blaming themselves for this abuse, instead of focusing on the source of the abuse. They start doubting their own legitimacy and identifying with their abuser. The human mind works in strange ways and this article is just another example of it. If in the past 58 years Israelis would have given in to this phenomenon of sympathizing with their abusers instead of believing in their righteous and moral objective of living with security and prosperity, Israel would not exist today.
13. MORE....TO ARIK DIAMANT =JEWS ARE SUFFERING BECAUSE OF JEWS

14. diamant will be the first ashkenazi collaberator to go!
(07.05.06)
15. Too overdone and hysterical - you defeat your own good point
Karen R ,   USA   (07.05.06)
People arrested by Shin Bet or IDF don't (or almost never) end up dead. Nobody is being shot in the back of the head, like in KGB cellar. There are no threats of killing. Quit with the melodrama. Shin Bet is not holding anyone with the threat of killing them, unlike our terrorist "friends" in Gaza. True, there are a lot of questions about Shin Bet interrogation methods. You can argue that oversight is needed, and that it sometimes gets out of hand. (But what about cases when it is believed a terror attack is imminent and loss of life can be prevented if extreme measures are used? A very difficult question.) I think you are trying to say that Israel also does not have clean hands - that indiscriminate arrests are hurting innocent people, and that you feel guilty for what you did in the army. This is a legitimate concern. However, when your rhetoric goes over the top, you damage your own case. It would be good to rewrite this article in a sober fashion, so the valid points for discussion you raise can be looked at.
16. This article is the pits
Carlos Murphy ,   Aus.   (07.05.06)
Posting that kids photo(yes he is a kid) and the caption Look who's been kidnapped. Is as nasty as you can get, thats all that his parents would love to read at this time of thier worst nightmare about thier son's well being. This twit is trying to sound humane instead he comes on as a monster.
17. balanced and wise
Tal ,   Brussels   (07.05.06)
I would want to thank you for your article. You are most probably right about what you are saying and it is the sad truth that this goes on. However, there is one possible difference. These children are not taken to be killed and I believe that they do one day return to life, which may not be the case for Gilad. Nevertheless, you are right to say that Israel has no right to keep these children under administrative detention for ever and would do best to let them go home, return to their families and parents and lead a normal life. The reality is that they will go back one day, with even more hatred than what they would naturally have as Palestinians living under occupation. For all others who will reply, no I am not anti-Israel, rather the contrary, but that does not mean that I cannot make logical and well thought criticism of Israel when I feel there is a need for this to be done.
18. Very Good
Mami ,   Palestine   (07.05.06)
This is a very objective article from somebody who really understands that double standards and injustice only serve hatred. It is true: every Palestinian asks the same questions. Why nobody spoke a single word while Israel was kidnapping thousands of Palestinians? Were they all guilty? No. They were just suspects, knew a suspect or happened to pass by a suspect. If we are to live in peace, each party must understand the other party's concerns and feelings. This article is a very good example.
19. Diamant Knows Best
Boaz Davidoff ,   Shoham, Israel   (07.05.06)
Does Mr. Diament profess to know a better way to obtain life-saving intelligence on jihad-driven terrorist? If he can provide better tactics that will keep our buses and coffee shops safe, I’d like to here it. Simply comparing the life-saving intelligence gathering to flat out terrorism is sheer demagoguery.
20. WELL DONE DIAMANT, TOGETHER WE WILL DEFEAT THE KFIRS
rustum ,   kuwait/palestine   (07.05.06)
thank you Arik DIamant, fianlly a Zionist who agrees with the Jihad! Its a shame there arent more jewish and zionist like you, with the help of Allah together we will defeat the occupiers in Palestine, Iraq and Afganistan, through our blood enshala. We welcome you and wish there were more honest people like you who can help us fight for our rights to drive away the occupier from our land and liberate Palestine from the river to the sea. Thank you again, we hope to be united in jerusalem soon
21. I hate arguing with thick headed lefists
Caligula's Horse ,   Solomon's Stables   (07.05.06)
But let's explain it slowly. The IDF "kidnaps" wanted terrorists because they had either killed Israelis or planned to, we dont kidnap Palestinians for fun or in order to gain political achievments and we dont do it collectivly. The Palestinians, on the other hand, will kidnap any Israeli, this is a collective method, used in order to make political achievments. This is why when Palestinians kidnap Israelis it is terrorism and when Israel "kidnaps" wanted terrorists and puts them to trial it isnt. Get it? Or will you go at any length in order to justify murder of Israelis and the release of blood-stained terrorists. Demagog.
22. I do not understand how Arik Diamant can be so naive.
LER ,   New Jersey   (07.05.06)
> "Instead of getting dragged into terrorist responses, as Palestinian society has done, we should release some of the soldiers and civilians we have kidnapped. This is appropriate, right, and could bring about an air of reconciliation in the territories." I think that Arik Diamant believes that the Hamas terrorists think like him and would respond in kind to a goodwill gesture. Unfortunately, Hamas does not think this way. If Israel released anyone in response to the Gilad Shalit's kidnapping, it would only encourage to carry out more kidnappings and wouldn't even assure the release of Shalit. I do not understand how someone who was raised and lives in Israel, like Arik Diamant, can be so naive. Hasn't he seen how such terrorist groups behave? Or is he simply so numbed by everything that he is engaging in wishful thinking? Though I consider myself fairly liberal in most issues, I just do not understand what Diamant and the rest of the Israeli left are thinking.
23. Arik Diamant you really are...
Leo ,   OZ   (07.05.06)
a good dhimmi. The word "moonbat" was definatley coined for you. Caligula's Horse, you're not the only one who hates arguing with thick headed leftists. Trust me. And explaining things slowly aint gonna help much either - you're better off talking to a brick wall (no insult ment to brick walls). All I can hope is that Arik et al end up living in freedom under a glorious Islamic caliphate where they will pay the glorious Jiyza tax among other things.
24. I can't. I am TOO DISGUSTED by this poor excuse
Jew for Truth ,   Jerusalem, ISrael   (07.05.06)
for an article written without FULL facts and twisted to the pleasure of a defeatists or anULTRA_EXTREME dangerous leftist.
25. is this the proper time to talk about your guilty trip?
jorge ,   mexico   (07.05.06)
Jews all over the world are praying for the Gilad's safety return and you have chosen this very moment to cry about those poor innocent palestinian kids?? SHAME ON YOU!!
26. ARIK DIAMANT
m.shenven ,   kiryat motzkin, Isra   (07.05.06)
1. How does Arik Diamant know what goes on withithe Shin Bet? 2. Arik Shavit writes " the prisoner was beaten, violently shaken and sleep deprived for weeks or months. WHO KNOWS." Well, who does know if every or any prisoner is so handled? 2. Did Arik Diament personally "smash in the face" of the prisoner at the time of arrest? 3. Did Arik Diament protest this action, that in the absence of his comment , was apparently unprovoked? Such a story fits Arik Diament's Courage to Refuse group. NOW GIVE PROOF OF THESE CLAIMS OR BE IGNORED ! moshe
27. A good article.
Viveka ,   Finland   (07.05.06)
28. m. shenven
sherife ,   bit hanoon   (07.05.06)
if you do not know ,tell i do not know but when you know something you can tell or be silent and the best to you to be silent like many israili here .but to ignore the facts it is upon to you facts are still facts and all palastinians know about the suspects and most of the israili also know
29. Bleeding Heart
Ed ,   USA   (07.05.06)
Arik is the kind of Jew that will bring Israel to disaster. If the Jews will not be able to confront the Arab enmity and hatred as well as murder, by using every means available, they will loose the Country. There are between 12 to 14 million Jews in the World, there are over a billion Moslems ready to destroy Israel. So you Arik make up your mind on what side youre on. If you think the Arabs are getting a bad deal, why don't you just leave Israel.
30. How dare you write such stupidity - and now!
(07.05.06)
I am for free press; but how dare you write such stupidity, and now - at a time when who knows what the fate of this soldier will be; who knows where he is; how much suffering he withstands; let alone his family. If it were your son kidnapped in Gaza by Palestinian terrorists - blood-thirsty inhumane people - I wonder, really wonder - if you would write such words. You are comparing Jews to Palestinians? Dont you think IDF actions are justified in order to stop Palestinians from terrorizing our buses, our streets etc. I am a secular leftist; but I must say - your article is making me think otherwise. I hate your hypocracy; your "good-heart" towards Palestinians who want us dead. Maybe for once - stop with all your "yafe nefesh" idiocy; and think how you would fell if you were now Gilad's father. SHAME ON YOU.
