s.a.   (07.10.06)
Civilians and teens who stay near area from where the terorist intend to launch Kassam must know the fact that they take a great responsily on themself by not flee from such a place. Isn`t that place dangerous?

37. #1. The Palestinians have chosen violence, not Israel.
DR ,   Gwent, UK   (07.10.06)
Your statement is typical Arab propaganda and SADLY divorced from reality. Another news report highlights that the Palestinians killed were young men aged 17 to 19. It also shows how a Palestinian missile crew was firing from a college yard close to the soccer pitch where the three were playing. Although the Israelis targeted the missile crew the young men were tragically killed. If the Palestinians were so concerned about their own people they wouldn't fire from civilian areas or amongst civilians themselves. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/736794.html ....The sources identified the three civilians killed in the attack as Ahmed Abu Amsa, 17, Ahmed Shabaat, 18, and Farid Nassir, 19. According to the sources, the IAF fired missiles on the teenagers as they were playing soccer in the field outside of the agricultural college in Beit Hanun, near some Qassam launchers that had been set up in the yard..... Many thousands of Palestinian missiles have recently been fired at Israeli civilian targets, some 800 or more since Israel withdrew from Gaza. Israel withdrew from Gaza in good faith on the premise that such Palestinian violence would not continue. The reality is that Israeli towns and villages in Gaza are now terrorist training camps and platforms from which to launch missiles. The Palestinians have elected a government that is sworn to eradicate the Jewish state and which has orchestrated the incidents which have resulted in Israel's military action. If the Kassems stop and the soldier is released, Israel withdraws. Hamas choses otherwise and is prepared to allow the Palestinian people to be used as pawns in it's own war against Israel. At any point during the past 56 years since the re-birth of Israel in 1948, Arab governments could have helped the Palestinian Arabs settle down to a decent life. They could have created the infrastructure of an autonomous Palestine on the West Bank of the Jordan and the Gaza territory that Egypt controlled until 1967, or encouraged the resettlement of Palestinians in Jordan, (which constitutes the lion's share of the original mandate of Palestine). Rather than fund the Palestine Liberation Organization to foment terror against Israel they could have endowed Palestinian schools of architecture, engineering, medicine and law. Instead, just as in 1948, instead of choosing peace the Palestinian/Arab world chose war.

40. Palestinian violence against their own. No outrage here.
DR ,   Gwent, UK   (07.10.06)
In recent days a Palestinian gunman fired a rocket propelled grenade at an Israeli tank. His missile struck a Palestinian house causing considerable damage. In that incident or that earlier today when a 10 year old Palestinian girl was struck by a Palestinian Kassem missile the outrage always expressed against Israel when it accidentally misses it's targets was conspicuous by it's absence. Check the talkback on the following report;- http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3273540,00.html Media entities here in the UK expediently sidestep such incidents, just as they only report the Kassem missile attacks on Israel when Israel retaliates. I have personally brought innumerable such incidents to the attention of the British media but they don't want to know. Yet when a Palestinian casualty is sustained they swarm like vultures, travel in Palestinian ambulances and provide footage of each and every possible Palestinian casualty. Israel casualties - well, they hardly merit a mention. The Palestinians will continue firing rockets, as they rest assured that the UN, the international media and “human rights” groups will play right into their hands by ignoring the Arab provocation and condemning the Israeli response. These talkbacks mirror these principles. While fair, comparative and contextual criticism of Israel government policies is not anti-Semitic, when the Jewish nation becomes isolated in criticism for faults that are far worse among others, then this criticism crosses the line from being acceptable to being blatantly anti-Semitic.
41. #39, Monitor, sorry but BBC is not a valid news source.

42. #39 BBC expediently selects what it reports.
DR ,   Gwent, UK   (07.10.06)
I have monitored the BBC's reporting of this conflict since 1987. They are extremely selective in what they report. Even after an independent report demanded that they describe Palestinian terrorists as terrorists, they refuse. Attacks on Israel are usually ignored. I know because I provide the BBC with details of such attacks and they are acknowledged but not reported. Except that is when Israel responds in self defence and a Palestinian casualty ensues. The tragic death of this Palestinian child was due to accidental injuries received. The child was not targeted. Do you remember Shalhevet Pass. She was an Israeli baby, aged 10 months. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shalhevet_Pass A Palestinian sniper on territory ceded by Israel, placed the cross hairs of his sniper's rifle on the baby's head and shot her dead while she sat in her stroller at the entrance to the Avraham Avinu neighborhood in Hebron. Cold blooded murder, not an accidental casualty in an air strike targeting Palestinian terrorists.
43. Mess With The Bull, Get the Horns
RA   (07.10.06)
The Palestinians need to stop complaining about what they brought on themselves. They are all brave until push comes to shove. Then they all start crying as if they are some innocent victims. By the way, look at those 2 pictures and tell me they arent staged. They might as well have gotten a runway model to pose for them.
44. 1.The choice
Elvira   (07.10.06)
You are right that Israel has the choice. It can choose to let the pals kill all the Israelis or to defend its citizens from those terrorists. It has chosen the second option. Any comments?

47. Death of civilians always tragic...
Hiram Al Masry ,   Tel Aviv   (07.11.06)
...but let's not forget that the JIhadist approach of urban fighting and militia operation does not separate the " fighting forces" from civilians. Not long ago ( last week actually ) the Hamas so called " security forces" ( in fact the terrorists ) have called on the civilian population of Gaza to provide shelter in order to be able to launch rockets from private places such as courtyards rather than using the " Open spaces" existing in Gaza. This , they thought, would provide them with shelter from the Israeli electronic monitoring and would delay their detection. In case of " collateral dammages" it would also provide a " Positive image " by saying that IDF is targeting civilians . This approach to " military operation" is not only valid for Gaza as it has been used , and is still used, anywhere where an Islamist government or " authority" has control. This being said, the death of innocent civilians is indeed a tragic matter . The responsability of it bears, to day like yesterday, on the shoulders of a terrorist " government " called Hamas whose " Political leader ( is there such a thing ? ) has elected to live outside of Palestine in a state supported terrorist country : Syria. These are the facts
48. Palestinians are victims of their own hate.

When your neighbor refuses to live in peace with you and threatens to kill you. When he begins to target your family and shoot at them he endangers his own household and is to blame for any loss.
49. RE: ridiculous
Bill ,   Yonkers, NY USA   (07.11.06)
The comments here are just fine and lefitimate and MORAL. Why do I say this? After Israel withdraws they STILL send HUNDREDS of rocket over the border to sovereign Israel, and kidnap a soldier. Palis elected Hamas and chose war. War is what they get. If they did this to a less moral country like China or Russia, Gaza would have been leveled already and all the children burned. Even if it were me I'd level all of Gaza after all their insanity. They hate Jews more than they love their children so tough sh--t
50. Anyone keeping score?

How many dead Palestinians in Gaza does that make the last few weeks? The Israeli government should be so proud of its record.
51. GET REAL
gary ,   okla city,USA   (07.11.06)
When is the world going to wake up and realize that the Palestinians are the ones who are stupid for not admiting they have lost the war with Israel a long time ago. They could have had much more land in the beginning but instead have wasted their childrens futures by continuing to fight Israel which has no intention of leaving.Maybe one of these days the Palestinians will wake up,admit their defeat and start making real progress towards educating and feeding their poor children. It is sad to watch the news here in the USA and see all the terrible things that happen everyday to both parties. The sooner the Palestinians give up the fight and start serious, honest negotiations the better off everyone will be.The longer they fight Israel the worse off they become fighting a war they can never win. They should count their lucky stars for the fact that Israel has chosen not to wipe them off the map which they could easily do .The average palestinian is just to uneducated to understand they are fighting a losing battle. All we can do is hope they will one day elect a government that will actually take their best interest to heart and start real negotiations with Israel.Otherwise, they will keep fighting a losing battle they can never win.

misfortune and even their own death. They created it, plan it and always asking for more. They have nothing and they are nothing but killjoys. But they are always looking for support from blind ppl. who can't tell the difference between the truth and lie.
54. #50 anyone keeping score?
donsaliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (07.11.06)
You know how many Kassams fell in Israeli towns,on schools, homes, do you know the score of how many terrorist attacks were foiled? All what I mentioned above are designed to kill as many Israelis as possible, because they did not succeed,it does not make the news and Jeremiah do you really care to know,or are you just for the sufferings of the Pals, which can be avoided,by stopping the shooting of Kassams and stop the attempts of terrorist attacks in Israel. If you want to cry for the suffering of only the Pals, then I guess nothing will make you believe the truth.

57. KS - well said
Rustum ,   London, UK   (07.11.06)
Of course they have sympathy but only when Jewish people are injured. The fascists here are so totally devoid of sympathy - have you not read them telling Palestinians that they do not exist! The next stage after telling people that they do not exist is to annihilate them physically. The most galling aspect of this is then to read the racists of Geneva and Sao Paolo and Florida dance in glee at the deaths of Palestinian children and their long expositions in justification. The Zionist right wing and Hamas are simply two sides of the same coin. Murders, killers, lovers of death and hatred. Well said KS. No doubt, Ms Golwater of Geneva will write and tell you that you have no right to an opinion as this is a "Jewish-israeli" newspaper. Well, sooner or later her mental leprosy will finish her off.

And killing Palestinian civilians by using disproportionate force is an appropriate response, how?
59. #58
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (07.11.06)
If that what it takes to stop them terrorizing and trying to kill us,you bet. Or maybe what Israel should do, is send Kasamm rockets into Gaza. You see Jeremiah,Israel almost had a civil war by pulling out of Gaza and what did Israel get back, Kassams, terror attacks.
60. Problem
Jeremiah ,   USA   (07.11.06)
That's a problem right there. Israel had no business occupying and illegally settling Gaza. So there shouldn't have been anything close to a "civil war" as a result of pulling out. And did Israel refrain from violence after pulling out? I think not. This is clearly an Israeli-Palestinian war, but many seem to think only Israel should have the right to use violence. Reminds me of this interchange from the movie, The Battle of Algiers: "Isn’t it a dirty thing to use women’s baskets to carry bombs to kill innocent people?" To which the official answers, "And you? Doesn’t it seem even dirtier to you to drop napalm bombs on defenseless villages with thousands of innocent victims? It would be a lot easier for us if we had planes. Give us your bombers, and we’ll give you our baskets.""
