This article is interesting considering the political situation in Israel and how much hateful rhetoric and mistrust exists on both sides to the point that people completely demonize each other. I am a person of American Jewish background who converted to Islam some 11 years ago and I did so on my own, not because I married a Muslim man (I am married now, though). I think conversion is very complex and persoanl, and we all have our various reasons for conversion. Historically Jews have sometimes converted to Islam or Christianity to gain social privelege and avoid persecution---could the same be the case of all of these Christian converts to Judaism in Israel??? I chose Islam because I liked the simple and straightfoward message, and I was dissatisfied with some fundamental aspects of Judaism. Although Muslim women have issues attaining their rights under patriarchal legal systems in various countries (not that any country is free of sexist practices), I would say this is very attached to culture and not to Islam, which upon close examination is a very just religion towards everyone.

Muslim woman wear veils, because they are modest.Any person who has any sort of common sense would know that if a woman exposes herself, they will be attracting men, and the result is rape..Inshallah (God willing), Allah will open your heart and show you guidance.

You are an obvious hater of the beautiful religion of Islam. If you read the quote in context, it was during a battle. If you are a general of a army, will you not build courage within your soldiers when others are trying to kill you. The next verse says that if they seek refuge and do not wish to proceed in violence, no one has a right to harm them, and the Quran even says that they should be escorted to a safe place. Before jumping to conclusions from what you have heard from haters of the religion of Islam, you should read more in depth.

To those who say woman has no rights in islam,its clear u have no idea what u talking about.If u want to follow a religion u follow its teaching and its holy books.U dont follow a people.Me being an atheist and scholar of comparative religion,who have studied and still does the Bible,Tora and Quran.I have to give the muslim faith more credit then any ather religion when it come to the rights of a woman.So please all u who hate Islam so much..Study its holy book and not a few bad examples of a few men.As we all know in each religion the is the good and the bad.

jesus (peace be upon him)didn't tell that 'Love your enemies and bless those who persecute you'f .u can have hundred types of bibles available in the markets but it is the only Quran in its original form.there were lot of changes in ur bible and are still going to happen.So it is now not a reliable book previously it was considered as a holy book.these are not the words of Jesus p.b.u.h.

Shi'ites are a pretty small minority in Islam. Palestinians are exclusively Sunni- along with 90% of all other Muslims. Thus, Sunni conversions are on the rise. Besides, to be frank, the other branches wouldn't be compatible with a Jewish theology.
