1. Why Israel is still fighting under restraint
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.13.06)
Why Is The U.S. Always Restraining Israel ? The reason is so that Israel does not defeat those intent on her destruction. This standing U.S. policy is always maintained to make sure Israel does not embarass the Arab world again with a quick and humiliating defeat. There is too much at stake for America to be loyal to any one small nation, especially when they are Jews. The dubious ally,America always effectively ties Israel's hands since their surprising defeat of Syria,Jordan and Egypt in 1967. And Israel always falls for this ruse. I received an email for a deluded Israeli today who found a convinent excuse for why Bush was limiting Israel's response to Arab agression across their border. He Wrote; "the Bush Administration is restraining Israel because the Administration is having a time of it in Iraq and with Iran." That's rubbish Yom Kippur was supposed to be a decisice victory for the Arabs,as the U.S. hoped it would be. The 1st Bush administration restrained Israel from responding to Saddam's 39 scuds during the first U.S. move on Saddam. This began the bleeding of Israel's now non existent deterrence against her Arab neighbors. It's just more of the same U.S.Policy against Israel. Israel's most serious tactical error has been to rely on the U.S.to look out for their best interests. You still have not awakened to the dangers of U.S. calls for restraint and Iraq is just another red herring excuse to tie Israel's hands again. The world as a whole is troubled when the Jews defend themselves. They would much rather like to see them quietly head to slaughter without fighting or protest and this is why France and so many a crying against Israel's supposed disproporinate use of force. Wake Up Israel ,this is not the time for restraint . It is time to tell Bush to restrain himself from interference in Israel's attempt to revive deterrence with her neighbors.
2. Some progress
Chrisona ,   Chicago.IL   (07.13.06)
"Israel . . . targeting Hizbullah weapons caches." That's some progress anyway. But obviously Israel needs to establish a very wide buffer zone on its northern border. And maintain it forever. Whatever it takes.
3. Are Muslims Still Handing Out Candy + Lighting Firecrackers?

whatever it takes? of course you can say that in chicago...perhaps you should come help instead of ordering israeli bloodshed
5. In Colloquial English...
Picky Settler ,   Beit El   (07.13.06)
In colloquial English an airport implies a civillian airfield. A military airfield is almost invariably referred to as an "airbase." I recommend you use the terms accordingly as native speaker will draw the wrong conclusions from your current headline and automatically assume "IDF Strikes Airports" means the IDF has targeted civillian airfields. The connotations in play are very strong. I'd be happy to telecommute and copyedit for you.
6. restraint

I understand why isreal would be mad and the retaliation is a common sign of weakness and frustration. Your cause is your case is weak. so stop acting like the victim. I think this setback the state of isreal 20 years not lebanon. Isreal is the one that has a lot to loose. and I think your angry cause you know that. Its only gonna hurt the region in the long run. stop pointing fingers and lets look in the mirror, on BOTH sides. we need to stop the blood shed, i dont care who started it first, i dont care who's land it is. we are human, we look the same, we need to be better then this. Lebanon as i see it is the victim. and IDF did strike the airport which is a civillian airfield, not sure how else you want to word it. Omar
8. Are Muslims still handing out Candy
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.13.06)
No they are too busy swimming up and down the coast to get to work because the bridges and roads in Lebanon have been bombed and they can't go by car or truck any more. The Palestinians inside Israel are busy letting off fire crackers and handing out candies
9. To #5: They ARE attacking civilian infrastructure
k ,   Montreal, canada   (07.13.06)
''In the early morning hours the IDF attacked the international airport in Beirut. Israel has imposed a complete closure on Lebanon.'' ''47 Lebanese citizens have been killed so far in the Israeli attacks.''

It's called war, war isnt about retaliating, it's about defeating.
11. Lebanon
tony ,   PARIS   (07.13.06)
With all due respect to the Lebanese people.this war is not against the Free Lebanese people,It is aimed directly at the Hizballah,But as the Leb Government, has to date Not taken posession of their southern border, and is allowing them to attack and agress Israel, freely ,they must unfortunatly take responsability, for this escalation..Just because the UN is not doing its job, does not mean the Leb gouvernment must not do theirs. Israel has enough of this Arab arrogance, where they think they can attack a sovereigne state, and get away with it,Its just unfortunate that these TERRORISTS are doing this from Lebanon. So to all the Lebanese people,Its time you hit the streets again,as you did,to oust SYRIA,it is now time to do the same to Hizballah....once and for all..and let peace return to the region.

lebanese people want peace, the snake is syria and iran, lebanon is just a hostage in this situation, the hostage takers do not care about its hostage and the negotiaters really are not negotiating anymore. The sniper team is taken shots, and missing the target, rather hitting the hostage taker (hizballah) they are hitting limbs and arms of the hostage, lebanon is bleeding, and no one seems to care, why doesnot isreal take out the snakes head? they have the power to do so. any feedback?
