These recent events show the efficacy of our political strategy in the Middle East. This new war has clearly been the intent of US policy all along, though I think this may be a bit earlier than would be ideal. Galvanizing the "enemies of freedom" against Israel provides the US with more reasons to persist in our war on "terror" and helps to gain momentum in promoting a new order in the Arab world. My personal belief is that America would be better off supporting the Arab nations than it is supporting Israel (and we know this) but there are far too many Zionists voting in US elections for any politicians to step up and say so publicly. This is a dumb question you ask. The better question is why do the Palestinians kill innocent Israelis? Why does Palestine elect a terrorist sect to political power? Why does Lebanon house Hezbollah? All of these groups have killed 1000's of Israelis. Israel has had enough! How many innocent Jews must die due to terrorist groups? The terrorists themselves hide in civilian population. They are in civilian homes. They are teaching their children to become terrorists. How does anyone suggest that Israel defend itself from these murderers? If the terrorists would not conceal themselves in civilian homes and area than the Israelis would not have to hunt them down there, it is as simple as that.
