67. Iran needs prestige, so it talks....
Ibrahim ,   S. Arabia   (07.14.06)
All the wars between Arab countries and Israel since 1948 saw the Arabs soundly defeated by Israel. Persia (Iran) was a glorious country in the ancient past, with culture and much power. In the modern world, Iran for years has been marginalized in the Arab world, disrespected and disorderly, due to the rise in fundamentalism there that set the country back a few centuries. Iranian governments play the game of "unite country in the face of a common enemy" continuously. If the enemy is not "the great Satan" America, it is Israel, which has the power and prestige in the area that old Persia does not. Now its new president is making his name known by adding his own words to the frey. He's young....and maybe he needs to learn his own lesson if he does not consult history. He can read about small Israel defeating the armies of Egypt, Syria, Transjordan (later Jordan), Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, plus local Arabs, which together invaded it in 1948. Israel hardly had then the superior armed forces it has today. That's why Iran wants nuclear power so badly-because they are fully aware that the only way to defeat Israel is by a nuclear bomb-IF they manage to strike first.
68. Stupidist Foreign Policy in History
kloppenstein ,   Portland, USA   (07.14.06)
Here's truth. Peace will never come with the Palestinians. They refuse to recognize Israel and have vowed to push it into the sea. Nothing has changed. This has to be the stupidist foreign policy in the history of the world. Here is why. No man will allow a pack of ravenous wolves to attack his home and family. He will go out and kill the wolves. Imagine, Palestinians, could easily have their homeland. The first steps, the pullout of Gaza had been taken. Now we have proof positive that peace, a homeland, was just a deversion from the real goal. The goal to get rid of Israel thoroughly and completely. What fools. By using Gaza to launch rockets and dig tunnels to kill and kidnap Israelis, they have signed their own insurance policy for continued misery, poverty, and now perhaps destruction. What idiot could dream up such foolishness? The foolishness that is now leading to a war the Palestinians will never win. This time the world, except for a few despots, is on the side of Israel. As for the Palestinians, don't come back crying about a homeland. Frankly, you blew it.
69. Re: Iran and USA_israel are friends
Proud Palestinian ,   Diaspora   (07.14.06)
Humos, Kabab or even the traditional dress are NOT Israeli, they stole the land and everything on it. Ask your Jewish friend if his father even knew what is Humos let alone his grandfather. The late Shah was stupid he trust his cronies, and other minorities more than his own people and gave them all the privileges & he ignored and neglected his own people. The very same people who he pampered dropped him like a hot brick when he had to face his own people and they ran way. The Shah the darling of the west did not even let him die in peace, all the doors in the world were shut in his face. It is time to wake up my dear Farsi friend!
70. Iran is bluffing
Shai ,   Israel   (07.14.06)
If they could have destroyed Israel, they would have already. They know well that Israel is avoiding widening the conflict so that they can avoid the political fall out, which would impede their ability to wipe out Hizbullah. If it turns out that Israel is going to succeed in wiping out Hizbullah, we can be assured that Iran and Syria won't wait for Israel to attack Syria. They will attack anyway, in ways that cannot be traced to them, through Palestinian proxies. But I can assure you of this, the best thing that could happen is for Syria and / or Iran to attack out in the open, because Israel will then be able to fight them and dissolve their capacity to undermine every attempt we make with Palestinians who are able to make reasonable concessions to make peace. The best possible scenario is for Iran and Syria to give us the pretext to wipe the floor with them. It would undermine the resistence in Iraq, allow Lebanon to regain its sovereignty, it would safeguard Jordan, whose government is relatively responsible, and it would undermine the recidivist elements in the PA. Maybe, just maybe then, peace could break out. All people who want peace should cheer Israel's actions, irrespective of the difficult price we all pay for it in deaths of non-combatants. But maybe once and for all we can wipe out the powers that use non-combatants as shields.
71. IRAN'S WARNING
ALMAN ,   JERUSALEM, ISRAEL   (07.14.06)
The modern Persia has decided to flex muscle as it has during its history. The modern Haman has chose to enter a fray of his own creation through the use of messengers. As history has shown Persia failed and so did Haman. Why doesn't anyone learn any lessons form the past? Is modern, progressive man so stupid and ignorant or has hunger for domination subdued any ideas of humanism?
72. Response to 69
Caligula's Horse ,   Solomon's Stables   (07.14.06)
Yes idiot, my grandfather knew what humus is, if you want to know, my family has been 1900 years in Morroco, which is 6 centuries before the Arabs invaded and occupied it, do you know what Berber means?
73. Who cares! Attack Syria
John ,   NZ   (07.14.06)
oh btw. AssAd, I was told yor dead dad's cancer is genetic so you won't be long. Unlike your father, this time you won't get any cancer treatment in the US.
74. Iran and Syria are not Hiroshima
jman ,   il   (07.14.06)
to all those who want to nuke Iran and Syria, it's not possible. The fallout of an attack on Syria would effect parts of Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, ect.. The same for an attack on Iran. So please try and be realistic about your ideas.
75. Iran is a paper tiger
Steve coss ,   Burlington, VT USA   (07.14.06)
Some one on this thread said "Iran could take out Israel". YEAH!! I don't think so. Iran is a paper tiger like his buddy in syria. Israel has eveery right to protect itself. Even the Saudi's agree strangely enough. It boils down to this. You either kill the terroists or they are going to come and kill you. Let's get it on
76. To 69 - about culinary nationalism
Shai ,   Israel   (07.14.06)
Humus, kabab and the traditional dress of Israel were taken from Jews who came from Arab countries when returning to the ancestral home of the Jews, not from Palestinians. Just because it's Arab doesn't make the provenance of these foods, or Palestinians, more authentic or ancient. On the contrary, it proves they are transplants. My suspicion is that Palestinians probably brought these same foods from the same Arab countries Jews came from, too, being that the greatest myth of Palestinians is that they've been here since the beginning of time. I especially like the logic that says that they were Jews before they were converted to Muslims, and thus they get "points" for being as ancient in their presence here as the Jews themselves. That's an argument that chases its own tail. So proud you must be, having to steal the identies of others to invent your "peoplehood".
77. To 69 - Berbers
Shai ,   Israel   (07.14.06)
Your point is especially poignant. The Palestinians are alwas going around saying how they are "indigenous" here, not the Jews. Well, they Arabs are not indigenous. A similar twist of fate is in Morroco, where the true indigenous people, the Berbers, do not have a state. Yet, the UN doesn't cry for them, either. Nobody writes on talkbacks with the self-righteousness of a Rustum or Ellen Prescott about how the Arabs stole Berber land and nationality, and how they should go back to "where they came from". Yet, in contrast to the Palestinians, the Berbers are really a "people" in the classic sense of the word. They governed themselves, they have unique cultural institutions, they have a unique history and identity aside from other nations around them- yet, Palestinians get pushed to the front of the line and Arabs get to pass off the lie that they are indigenous here without anybody blinking an eye. The reason of course is that Jews are not entitled to a state, even though they meet all the definitions of one for the purposes of Self-determination, because the Arabs, who have the oil, find the idea inconvenient and an insult to their proud history as invaders of other peoples lands. When Arabs smite, they prefer that the populations they smite stay smitten. The injustice and hypocracy of it is blinding. One wonders if the Berbers demanded a state whether the world would turn on them as they had on the Jews who returned to their ancestral home.
78. Sorry, that last comment about Morrocco was for 72.

80. #10 #47 PA Call For MURDER of ALL JEWS & MURDER of AMERICANS
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (07.14.06)
PA/PLO are recipients of Mega TAX DOLLARS. U.S. taxpayers are forced to finance jihad against Jews and Americans! The U.S. EU, UN Road Map Islamic terror state two in Judea, Samaria and parts of Jerusalem will reduce Israel to an INDEFENSIBLE 6-10 miles wide at mid-section, thus enabling a second Holocaust of Jews. The Palestinian Authority hailed as heroes the terrorists who brutally murdered defenseless 8 months pregnant Jewish Gaza mother, Tali Hatuel, and four little daughters in Gush Katif in May 2004. The Palestinian Authority teach through their mosques, media, summer camps, and public education system, that murdering Jews is a religious obligation. Human bomb killers of Jewish innocents are revered and considered heroes by PA society. Effigies of burning buses are features of PA school pageants and summer camps. Streets and soccer teams are named after suicide bombers. Broadcast from Gaza mosque, Oct 13 2000, Dr. Ahmad Abu Halabiya, on Palestinian Authority TV (transcribed by Memri): "Have no mercy on the Jews, no matter where they are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you are. Wherever you meet them, kill them. Wherever you are, kill those Jews and those Americans who are like them..."
81. Bravo, Zionist (#52). Israel does produce most of its own
Márcia ,   Brazil   (07.14.06)
military equipment. And the safety of Israel is immediately on the line here, not the safety of the US.
82. ESCALATION WILL COST ISRAEL A LOT
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON UK   (07.14.06)
The present unwarranted attacks on civilian targets in Lebanon makes it look as though Israel is getting away easily without strong response. But let it be known that Israelis will pay dearly in the very near future.I cannot believe the passive Islamic countries just watching thescenerio without taking any action. But Iran and Syria will react and react effectively.
83. Hahsem always prevail over phony gods, Mahmood.

87. Insane...
Soup ,   UK   (07.14.06)
I get the feeling that there are some... (a lot?) here that are quite, quite insane... Drop a nuke on Iran??? Let the fallout and the responce to that destroy the planet??? Great solution. This could escalate into a 3rd World war! This isn't over reaction. It is a serious threat if things go over the edge. If that was to happen, and some out there think 'that would be a good idea'.. I'd like to hear what you think 5 years down the line when loved ones are buried in the ground from countries all around the world. Time to wake up to realities.
