Negotiations, talks and the proposed "international peacekeepers" are all a trap which Israel must be wary of falling into. The purpose of the trap is obvious - to protect Hizbullah. Israel must continue its operations until Hizbullah is destroyed; its weapons, bases, personnel and infrastucture must be utterly rooted out. Never again should Israel allow itself to be held hostage on the northern border. The fact that the UN and the EU are getting involved shows how worried they are that Israel will win this war. Their "peacekeepers" would protect the terrorists. The next few days will be difficult, but Israel must stay resolute and put itself in a position to negotiate from strength, not weakness.

Peres has a history of thinking that he is some sort of brilliant deal maker and has the authority to go his own way, outside of channels, and make deals on his own. Perhaps he should examine his own role in bringing Israel to this point and just go awat for a while. This situtaion is not for the diplomats right now, it's for the warriors

I think it a pity that talks with Lebanon cannot get started. It's right, for now, for the warriors to have the ascendancy but surely there should also always be room for negotiations with appropriate parties. I would agree that Islamist parties have now forfeited any right to be regarded as "appropriate" but surely the Lebanese PM is a legitimate talking partner.
