ilana- i'm afraid you are confusing two separate issues. one is who the state of israel judges as jewish - an issue that is unfortunately been hijacked by the unltra-orthodox. the other is freedom of speech of gays and lesbians to walk through the streets of israel in pride and with a message of tolerance (of everyone including those same hateful unltra-orthodox) and respect for diversity and difference opinion. you also seem to have invented two terms/concepts, neither of which are real - "Pink Prancers" and "homosexual group." Your fabrications don't help me respect your position in a civil debate.

The vast majority of Jews in the diaspora are not Orthodox. The labelling of their conversion processes as "fly-by-night" is the epitome of arrogance, and the attempt to establish a theocracy is madness. Or perhaps national suicide.

Convenient is the last term we should be applying to a conversion process. The question of "who is a Jew?" is already tough enough, the last things we need are hordes of converts without a strong attachment to the culture imposing their will on the rest of us. If just anyone is let in, we will be just another country and not a true Nation. Same with the ongoing "secular conversion" discussion. There are many people who want to be Jewish (believe it or not), but then again there are people who wish to be Black or Japanese. These people can become Jewish when I can become an Arab. As for the religious conversion--let them decide if they really want a religious conversion or not. If not, then they want to switch races and this is physically impossible.
