Noam Chumpski!
32. Chomsky, Zinn, et. al.
John Haskell ,   Pleasant Hill, CA   (07.25.06)
These so-called "intellectuals" represent the radical left that loathes Israel and, while never admitting it, would not be displeased if it disappeared. Chomsky and Zinn are the tired old "high priests" of the secular Jewish left in America that for decades has spouted their neo-marxist propoganda to generations of fawning college students who, after being thoroughly indoctrinated, carry their torch. They have always been the vanguard of the "Blame America First" (now the "Blame America and Israel First") Movement in this country. Fortunately, Chomsky, Zinn, Vidal, and I suspect the others, too, have no real credibility with the people who really shape events in the world since the reality of events has a way of intervening and rendering their kind silent. Those who deal directly with the reality of the horrific dangers we are all facing know who the enemy is and know what to do about it, and Israel and the Israeli people have always been in the forefront. The world should be listening to them and not to those who are motivated by bankrupted ideological theory that seeks to vilify the defenders of freedom and destroy us from within.
33. This nonsense is taught to college students
shlomit1 ,   NY   (07.25.06)
Unfortunately, what these idots think does affect Israel. In the U.S., where I teach at a university, people have been teaching Chomsky style nonsense to a whole generation of students who know nothing else about the history of Israel and the Jews. We see the results of this "education" in today's biased journalism and also in Europe where this nonsense is even more popular.
34. Chomsky? Isn't he ...
Gary ,   Calgary, Canada   (07.24.06)
the bulldog on Everybody Loves Raymond? Ray's brother's dog? Right?
35. Chomsky: One ugly son-of-bitch

36. Dog Bites Man - The Usual Bla, Bla From Dedicated Leftists
david ,   Philadelphia   (07.25.06)
The leftist national pastime is Israel-bashing. Ma chadash? We need to stop sending our kids to these institutions of ultra-leftist brainwashing. Why pay $40,000/year for your kid to be taught how to hate Israel, hate America, hate religion, hate western culture and thought, and yet embrace Jew-hating, woman-hating, liberty-loathing, totalitarian movements like Islamism?
37. one lucky SOB
BS meter ,   Canada   (07.25.06)
Noam Chomsky (and Finkelstein and a few others of their ilk) are lucky they're Jews and not Muslims. If they were Muslim and did this, there'd be fatwas out on them.
38. to David # 36
avramele   (07.25.06)
great point David...lets not send our kids to college but let them study mystical nonsense in sfat or spend the whole day smoozing with their chevre in kollels while their much too young brides work and take care of the kids... no sir! our kids rleigious and secular are bright enough to argue with the knee jerk Israel haters and to understand the nuances of the situation. You guys complain against convergence but it is you who would pull back to the 14th century!
39. Time spent listening to Chomsky is an exercise in futility.
Shiksa ,   California   (07.25.06)
He is a fraud. What he said is predictable leftist blather. Pay him no mind. He even spoke a few years ago in Berkeley at the Middle East Children's Alliance, which has been reported to be a fundraising arm for terrorist groups in the Middle East. (And he calls himself a Zionist! Hmmph!)
40. Chomsky has Dementia
John ,   NZ   (07.25.06)
41. Why bother with Chomsky, who cares what he thinks?
Tiger Woods ,   Liverpool, UK   (07.25.06)
42. Chomsky
Mike Phipps ,   Huntsville, Ala USA   (07.25.06)
You know I'm amazed how youi Grandparents could be led off to Dead Camps and then people like Chomsky blame you that Arabs are sending missiles. Notice the missiles are not targeting Army buildup areas. Denial is the victory. Its called Surprise attack for the other side. Don't see Chomsky coming to Isreal's ad. He' d be one of those argueing for more money from US Government if his kin' were killed on 9/11.
43. He may be an intellectual in some circles.......
Dr. Rick ,   USA   (07.25.06)
Certainly not in many Jewish or circles that I frequent. Chomsky is world famous for being a non-Jewish Jew.........Dare I say......A self-loathing Jew. He is known for some moments of profound insight...........Followed by hours of sheer nonsense, of which the above is an example.......Chomsky is a shining example of a radical left wingnut for all to behold. Study him carefully, for there are many out there like him.

45. Klein, Chomsky and Berger Are Right
David ,   Canadian in the UK   (07.25.06)
Israel, Lebanon, and Palestine July 19, 2006 The latest chapter of the conflict between Israel and Palestine began when Israeli forces abducted two civilians, a doctor and his brother, from Gaza. An incident scarcely reported anywhere, except in the Turkish press. The following day the Palestinians took an Israeli soldier prisoner - and proposed a negotiated exchange against prisoners taken by the Israelis - there are approximately 10,000 in Israeli jails. That this "kidnapping" was considered an outrage, whereas the illegal military occupation of the West Bank and the systematic appropriation of its natural resources - most particularly that of water - by the Israeli Defence (!) Forces is considered a regrettable but realistic fact of life, is typical of the double standards repeatedly employed by the West in face of what has befallen the Palestinians, on the land alloted to them by international agreements, during the last seventy years. Today outrage follows outrage; makeshift missiles cross sophisticated ones. The latter usually find their target situated where the disinherited and crowded poor live, waiting for what was once called Justice. Both categories of missile rip bodies apart horribly - who but field commanders can forget this for a moment? Each provocation and counter-provocation is contested and preached over. But the subsequent arguments, accusations and vows, all serve as a distraction in order to divert world attention from a long-term military, economic and geographic practice whose political aim is nothing less than the liquidation of the Palestinian nation. This has to be said loud and clear for the practice, only half declared and often covert, is advancing fast these days, and, in our opinion, it must be unceasingly and eternally recognised for what it is and resisted. Tariq Ali, John Berger, Noam Chomsky, Eduardo Galeano, Naomi Klein, Harold Pinter, Arundhati Roy, José Saramago & Howard Zinn
46. Irony
Darren ,   Tel Aviv   (07.25.06)
There is a small and insignificant number of self-hating Jews who seem happy to criticise Israel no matter what it does.. There is a small and insignificant number of moderate Arabs who seem prepared to accept Israel and denounce the terror in the name of Islam. It is quite clear what the silent majorities in both camps desire, which sadly for us in Israel means our desire for peace will continue to be met with a desire for our destruction by the other side.
47. Endless war?
Peter Waterman ,   The Hague, Netherlan   (07.25.06)
Dismissing critics of Israel's current two-front war as 'self-hating Jews' is both banal and irrelevant. The writers and film-makers who signed this protest (including people of Muslim, Hindu, lay, anarchist, socialist and other beliefs) are actually articulating the attitudes of a growing part of the world's population. Israel is placing all its bets on the ultra-right ideology and aggressive military strategy of the present US administration - one that is itself provoking more anti-American sentiment worldwide than I (age 70) can recall. I cannot imagine what idea is in the head of the Israeli government about a longer-term future: that if they achieve their immediate objectives by armed force the Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims are going to accept Israeli hegemony in the Middle East for eternity? This is not working for the US in Latin America, it is in deep doodoo in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is becoming increasingly unpopular in Western Europe. It will not work for Israel in the Middle East. The gods also drive mad those who would self-destruct. Peter Waterman
48. Why do readers avoid the message?
Angela ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.25.06)
I'm once again amazed to see how few people actually wish to address the content, preferring instead to divert and distract attention by attacking the messenger so as not to hear the message. We need justice for all. Unfortunately, many people don't understand what justice means. A human being is a human being is a human being. But for many, racist in subconscious even if not consciously, We are more than Them. Wrong. Now go read Chomsky again and see what he is saying, before attacking the man.. The Occupation, stupid!
49. what do you expext from Chimpsky?
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (07.25.06)
When has this moron ever said anything good about Israel? Me thinks he based his whole life on having nothing good to say in a long winded way! His books arent even good for TP!
50. Israelis did not kidnap anyone
l reik ,   tel aviv israel   (07.25.06)
Can you possibly substantiate your story? Where, when and why did Israel kidnap the poor Pals? There are so many Arabists well versed in prevarications and lies- seems like they should be spending their energies on building themselves a country and not whining about occupation after Israel has left Gaza and Lebanon!
51. Stop calling chumpsky an intellect! he is far from it.
World   (07.25.06)
52. Avramele #38
David ,   Philadelphia   (07.25.06)
No need to react so rabidly, Avramele; I wasn't saying that we shouldn't send our kids to college at all, but rather that we shouldn't send them to colleges that are dedicated to maintaining leftist hegemony in education. There ARE alternatives to Columbia, Yale, and Harvard - it's just that too many Jews have come to believe that the only way to get ahead is to send their kids out among the wolves of leftist academia. I hardly think that the example I set (I'm a patent attorney) would encourage my kids to "pull back to the 14th century". Try looking before you leap next time; "nuances of the situation" indeed!
53. Unreal
Tom ,   Laval, Quebec   (07.25.06)
WOW! I don't think I've ever seen this much hatred on a board even on US based forums discussing US foreign policy (minus #48). I wonder how many of you have actually taken the time to read any of Chomsky's books, in particular, "The Fateful Triangle". "ugly SOB", "he's nuts", "moron", "he's an idiot", "self hating Jew". It's amazing what people get branded as when their writings are not agreed upon by the masses.
54. #23 (Ron) and #51 (World)
BS meter ,   Canada   (07.25.06)
World -- not to worry, i put the world in quotation marks. Chomsky is a faddist. Naomi Klein is about the same. Fame is the only thing they want. Anybody who says he believes Jews should have an "ethnic home" but not a state is ridiculous. Does he think the French have an "ethnic home" or a state? How about the Germans? The Muslims (sitting around in their 22 countries)? Do you see him running around saying Muslim countries are racist because they're Muslim? #23 -- And from I sit, you are a blight on the planet. Your people have waged war after war, against others and against each other. You have given the world nothing but grief in more than 50 years. You are responsible for the slaughter of thousands of people everywhere. So don't preach to us. Look to yourself.
55. #47
BS meter ,   Canada   (07.25.06)
"Israeli hegemony in the Middle East"????? Are you for real????
56. Peter Waterman in The Hague
BS meter ,   Canada   (07.25.06)
I just googled you, and now understand how predictable your views and language are. What, pray tell, do you think Israelis should do? Pay no attention to the message they've received loud and clear for 60 years that their destruction is the desired end? Roll over and die? I expect you believe they should, at best, dismantle Israel and accept living in "bantustans," with the occasional occasional pogrom by their "hosts." I teach in a university and the smugness of people like yourself, who consider themselves "scholar-activists," is everywhere. Seldom do you meet a more dogmatic, self-satisfied group of people. NOt always, of course. There are people doing good work. But there are also those, like you, who like nothing more than to talk in meaningless platitudes.
57. Some intellectuals!
Sidney ,   USA   (07.25.06)
Why are people who don't know the difference between a derivative and integral called intellectuals? In the twenty-first century, they are functionally illiterate. They are the clowns who teach deconstructionism in our degraded colleges. Their wisdom is who needs Homer or Shakespeare when all you need to know is who the victims are.
58. Tom, the reader in Montreal
BS meter ,   Canada   (07.25.06)
Actually, I have taken the time to read Chomsky. As well as Klein, and Berger. Chomsky's politics have been deconstructed and "fisked" extremely well. He deserves the opprobrium he gets here and elsewhere. Klein is a pop star.
59. Ithamar ben Gvir's dog
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (07.25.06)
"Right wing activist" Ithamar ben Gvir named his dog after Noam Chompy.
60. Curious

What do you think the palestinians should do all about all the palestinian children in israeli jails and how should it be different than Israel's reaction to kidnapped soldiers?
