1. There is a limit to how many Israelis you can find that will
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (07.25.06)
learn to speak arabic like a native from Syria, live among terrorist scum that Israel is trying to kill and maybe even marry a hairy leg wife that he has to beat to keep his cover from being blown. Now that is not a great job description, being on the front lines being shot at is more pleasant.
2. Ahh,,, The Ever Present Armchair General
World Citizen ,   the world   (07.25.06)
Bunny Meyers, safely esconded in her Santa Monica, California home. Showing her military prowess. How easy it is to command the deaths of 1,10,100, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000 innocent Lebanese or Syria civilians. If she would only make aliyah them she could put the IDF on the way to Damascus.
3. You are out of job
Ehud ,   Rosh Pina   (07.25.06)
if you collect intelligence. This was against the policy of Barak-Sharon-Olmert. As Olmert said, "We are here (probably he ment North Tel Aviv) and they are are there and we don't care what is going on around us." Now we pay for their mistakes.
4. Just a few good men can save the world
Annie ,   USA   (07.25.06)
This is war. It is never pretty or perfect. It progresses in starts and stops. These precious soldiers of Israel are giving their all. The world is in grave danger (anyone who does not know this needs to do more reading). The world depends on these soldiers and they depend on each other. Just a few good men can save the world. Just as easy company did in WWII. This time it is Israel.
5. Why the IDF may not have been best prepared for this war
Andi Ziegelman ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.25.06)
In 2004 our IDF was busy preparing to expel from their homes the residents of Gush Katif, instead of collecting intelligence about Hisbollah, and training to defend us. And - we got a chief of staff who was tailored to the task of expulsion, instead, perhaps, one who is tailored to protecting us from enemy threats.
6. how accurate is your information?
nate ,   usa   (07.25.06)
i am not sure that the author of this article really knows what he is talking about. it has just been uncovered that the 5 soldiers killed in lebanon the past few days were killed by friendly fire, and when added to the 3 helicopter crashes, most of the fatalities have been friendly fire. also, the intelligence chief has said to be "insulted" that israel is not using the vast intelligence that they provided in their attacks, but are rather opting for a slower, more methodical campaign, something peretz admits to himself. so please do not jump to blaim the intelligence as i am sure we both do not know exactly what they did know, and perhaps its is the army's high command who is to blaim for been so tentative.
7. not time for phylosofy
Michel ,   Paris   (07.25.06)
This is a good phylosofy but i think that it is too late IDF will return back without victory because it was a very bad idea to attack the hezbullah They have nothing to loose. And you have to know that hezbullah is not a group of men, it is a people, a religion, a faith it is not physic, it is a virtual adversory good luck he you think that you can defeat them
8. When we lost the IDF ....
Zvi Lando   (07.25.06)
The IDF is afraid. Not of the Hizbollah, not of the enemy. It is afraid of The UN, the World Court, Batzelem, Machsom Watch,Four Mothers, Carmela Menashe, and all those cute parents that call their children's officers weekly to complain that something happened to their little boy or girl in the army. No army can work like this, much more an army whose job it is to be the only thing standing between a Jewish Nation and the utter destruction of a Jewish Nation. I remember the first time I went to my army case, in reserves and pounced on by several soldiers since I was walking around with my magazine in my M16. It was then that I knew we were in danger..... and thos ewho understand, understand... and those who don't, won't.. ever....
9. Future of Israel
Arnold ,   Tel Aviv   (07.25.06)
An army that fights with excellent forces and tanks with the assistance of an air force cannot go into a village directly on the border except after a battle that has continued for days with great losses against a number of opposition fighters is a failed and defeated army. Conclusion: Israeli people will leave with continuos fear, our life is permanently destabilized. Israel has no future.
10. #7 What are you getting at?
Haifa, Israel   (07.25.06)
That we should let Hezbollah bully the world because they are wacko, or are you implying they are somehow more human than the rest of us? Either way, hold your breath because you've gone off the deep end.
11. Armchair Generals
Larry ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.26.06)
The IDF deserves the utmost respect of any military in the entire world. Israel defends by necessity not by choice. Israeli soldiers are not ordered to defend but realize that it is their lives and those of their families that are on the line. Counter that with Billy Bob who is sent to Iraq to fight a war that simply doesn't make sense. Rational and logic are key components to a successful warrior. As for intelligence few remember that the British allowed the Germans to bomb Coventry during WW2 so as not to compromise their intelligence operatives in Germany. Who is to say that Israel has not done the same thing and this furthers their operations.
12. to # 10
Michel ,   Paris   (07.26.06)
idf has already lost the battle, let's be honest and serious, please tjey wanted to surprise, abut they are surprised the best thing is to stop killing inocent people just to justify this mistaken war the lives are also importants to be saved from the 2 parts of the border
13. military intelligence
Kent Houser ,   Portland, OR USA   (07.28.06)
While I am certainly no expert, some basic elements of surprise might be gained by 1) infrared imaging by drone of Hizzbullah's weapons & hideout tunnels 2) using growing disenchantment w/terrorists' "human shield" tactics on the part of local Shiite populations to recruit "humint", as they say, and 3) stealth-employing nightime encirclements ty special forces equipped w/night vision devices most likely unavailable to the enemy. Pipe dreams? Maybe...maybe not.
14. michel
raymatt ,   burnet, tx   (07.30.06)
