You guys rock. At the end of the day, it´s either Judaeo-Christian culture or Islamo-Death culture. You´d have to be a retard or ignorant beyond hope to be against Israel in her conlfict with the cowardly Islamo-fascists. She is taking some blows now but we must allow her to finish the job of removing this cancer from Lebanon (along with PLO, Al-Queida, Hamas, and the rest of this garbage). God bless Israel!
32. I agree with #27's Comments
Pat ,   Wisconsin, USA   (07.28.06)
Patrick makes a good point. What Israel is dealing with is something the entire West needs to defeat; Islamic terrorism. Germany, Israel, and all other western countries need to be allied when it comes to defeating radical Islam. Statements that suggest Israel and Germany don't have a common cause concerning Islamic terrorism are outdated, to say the least.
33. Times are too perilous for such trust.
Josh ,   Atlanta   (07.28.06)
All of Europe has an "Israel-friendly" mask. No people wears that mask better than the people of Germany. Behind the mask is the new anti-Semitic triple axis of Radical Left - Radical Right - Radical Islamic. The remainder range from limp wristed/weak to hopeless and apathetic. Remember, they sit around and pretend to mourn the Holocaust, but it's all for show, if not, then why the supposed need to fund Hamas? Why did they fall all over themselves to throw cash at Arafat and by doing so, financed terrorism against Jews. Are we to believe that they're so naive that they don't actually know where the money was going or what it was going to end up doing? The Arabs showed the Europeans and especially the Germans what they were all about in Munich in '72. I know America has it's fair share of stupid, and we don't always make the right decisions in the interest of Israel. But the difference is, I don't sit around and pretend to mourn the Holocaust and then turn around and donate my money to Hamas. Check that, I think the government did send them money, but I think they've done so AGAINST the will of the people here, and that's the difference between us and Germany and Europe.

The past is over, and the German people have demonstrated that they are not only friends of the Jewish people, but are compassionate and caring to all. I am grateful for their support and generosity. I try to support Germany as well by buying German products. It is my frequent travel destination.

cathy and her comment are far from reality, germans and jews get along . germany apoligized long ago for the terrors of the nazi regime. germans have been one of the only supporters of israels quest for peace in the EU. let us put an end to terrorist plots to erase israel and stand together united in defeating this ruthless enemy

A pray for Israel to find restraint, but if terrorests (iran/syria) WMD them, I hope they pull out the big boyz.. If I lived in Damascus, I'd be planning to leave for vacation like yesterday.. Peace does not equal kidnapping. Hammas and HizBullies do equal terror.. nuke um!

I'd say it rather seems like if they were willing to protect Hizbullah ( pointing guns to Israeli soldiers...). As the most excited supporter of Germany-Israel affairs, I must admit that after this article I couldn't be more disappointed. Everybody I know are disappointed just the same way.
40. Germans hate arbics?

"Are more pacifists than Poles" You're probably being sarcastic. Poles, my dear sir, have volunteered to help Nazis to catch and execute my family once. And Poles, my dear sir, haven't changed ever since, unfortunately. Hizbullah terrorists seem to be more pacifists than Poles, just less cowards.

PAUL CHANDLER ,   LONDON   (07.28.06)
Guys,do you really expect Kids from Europe to do peace keeping in Lebanon ?? themselves getting into a war with Hezbolloh !! or even worse having the IDF shelling them or firing tank shells at them, which has happened countless times with UNIFIL,including more recently being bombed from the air,we already have our sons and daughters fighting/dying in Iraq and Afghanistan and now you want us to go to Lebanon !!! to fight Hezbollah,I think only Israel can police south Lebanon !! at a cost !! but its war..what else can you do !!,expect boys from sweden or holland to do this for you ?? and as for the comment about dropping a german soldier above :mike: I believe, there is the answer for you all to see why Europe will not get involved !!!

I'm glad we have this opportunity to chat together and express opinions. Kinda neat when an Israeli, German, and American can share thoughts. Pretty much means we are all very much alike, doesn't it? You are reading too much into a hypothetical statement from the German press.
44. The best thing the Germans could do
Sher ,   netanya Israel   (07.28.06)
would be to work tirelessly and ceaselessly on the diplomatic front to convince both sides to stop the violence and accept each other's presence in the region. No country has, until now, fully assumed such a responsibility although it increasingly looks as though the future of this planet depends on it. For Germany and Israel to look at each other through the barrel of a gun is inconceivable.
45. #43, Pat.
S. ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (07.28.06)
Neat, without a doubt. I might be over-reacting, but once again - as the most excited supporter of Germany-Israel affairs, as somebody who has stood for Germans when they were called names by my diaspora brothers too many times, I feel sort of betrayed now. I officially do not believe in their friendship anymore, the only thing this article taught me is that they intend to blame Israel for whatever happens in the Middle East just like the rest of Europe do. The rest of Europe blaming Israel would not be very surprising, but Germany has played the "best friend of Israel" role for too long, and I personally was fool enough to not only believe them but also to convince others that they were for real. My bad.

47. Israeli's have reason to be proud of Germany
Daniel ,   Amsterdam   (07.28.06)
Take a look how much the Germans have changed. Do you think the Arabs could thange that quickly and that much? I think Israeli's can trust German UN soldiers more then any other UN forces, exept of course American ones.

Dear Daniel Dutchman...... If american soldiers did not save your ass in ww2 you would have been speaking german yourself today. you are welcome.
49. German Soldiers pointing guns at Jews
Gay Griffith ,   Niskayuna, NY, USA   (07.28.06)
As the daughter of a Holocaust Survivor I feel this idea is perverse! Are they going to let them build gas chambers too???
50. #49 move on.
eric ,   london   (07.28.06)
For all of us being so paranoid of anti-Semitism please take a deep breath and chill already. Racism is part of human nature: Jew’s are guilty of it just as much as anybody else if not more. For all of you who raise an eyebrow….please think of a situation where your daughter or son brings home a non Jew for marriage or maybe a black Jew……hmmmm WW2 is over. You love BMW and S500 Benz. Say thank you to Germany or any other country that is willing to sacrifice its own soldier’s life to help and protect our Jewish life. It’s simply a nice gesture. Dunka.
51. $49,
S. ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (07.28.06)
as a granddaughter of 4 Holocaust Survivors ,and an Israeli, I will ask you to a) stop spreading Holocaust related hatred against modern Germany which absolute majority was born long after 1945 b) let us Israelis decide who is going to build what on our own border. Thank you!
52. To # 50 & #51
Gay Griffith ,   Niskayuna, NY, USA   (07.28.06)
To #50: When you assume..... I happen to be in an interfaith marriage. The message conveyed by survivors is to Never Forget and I have no intention of doing so. The horrors of the Holoacaust Should NEVER be forgotten, especially when they happened again in Europe and continue to happen in Darfur. To #51. I stand by what I said. Germany may be "modern" but for many the mentality has not changed. As a retired soldier from the I.D.F., I would not want to see Germans, in a positionof authority, that close to Israel. I am not implying that all German's are evil. I just don't think they should be part of a Security Force. I am entitled to my opinion. As a citizen of Israel, Canada and the United States, all countries where free speech still prevails, I am entitled to my opinion. Shabbat Shalom Lekulam!

I suggest the transfer of the zionist entity in Germany. This way Germany would pay for it's crimes.

I suggest you get all your relatives in whichever backward muslim country they are in and bring them to the great french entity where you live now...this way they are not going to be stuck in the 9th century.

Your comments still don't make any sense!!!
56. #52,
S. ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (07.29.06)
as a citizen of Israel, you're entitled to your opinion indeed. I BTW in general am against the idea of an international Security Force, with or without Germans, but it isn't the point. The point is that a decent amount of my German friends were called 'Nazis'' at least once, mostly by non Jewish Europeans. I'm talking about Christian Germans who support the state of Israel in any way they can, love Jews and hate Nazism. You are absolutely right, we must never forget, but we also must remember that we must not encourage any kind of national hatred, not only anti-Semitism. At least that's what I think.

its people like you that start wars with pathetic statements like that and i am jewish....are you!
58. Hope, Germans will never protect Israel
Fritz ,   Germany   (08.05.06)
Since the betrayal of Germany by the Zionists in 1916/17 (to get the Balfour-Declaration) the Germans have to bear a lot of disadvantages in their own history, especially in relation to the Jews. Hitler was only one result of the hypocrisies in Germany after the treaty of Versailles, what was possible through the entry of the USA in the war, managed by the leading Zionists in that time. Of course, the destruction of the Jewry in Europe in the WW2 is one of the darkest chapter in german history, but the fight begun with the betrayal by the Zionists in 1916/17. The Zionists wanted rebuild "Eretz Israel" in Palestine, not the Germans. As a German I think, the Zionists and its friends have to manage and to solve the problems with the Arabs alone. I'm ashamed about the silence by the german government to point out the truly history and not only to debate about the 'german guilt' against the Jews. I am ashamed about the silence in the so called "Free world" after the crazy destruction of Lebanon by the IDF. The most Germans think different from the "official" point of view by our dumb politicians. Fritz
59. Insane!!!
Andreas ,   Hamburg/Germany   (08.16.06)
First of all #58 Fritz you are an stupid peace of shit! Ok to the story. Israel deals with arabic natoinalism and later with islamism since 60 years, no one can do better this job as Israelis. German troups are definatley not able to make this job better then Israelis do. This all will end in a big desaster or at least embarrasement for germany and the EU as a whole. 60 Years after the Shoah german Soldier shouldn´t be anywhere in Israel od at Israels borders. At least as long Holocuast.Survivors live in Israel are still alive. If germany wants to help Israel (what is an good Idea, bc israels fights its own enemys as ours) we should send money , weapons and protect Israel on the political "Fronts" in the EU and the UN. Thats it what germans do since the end of WW2 and its nice and wonderful and everything should stay that way. No german troups for Lebanon!
60. Question
Antidote ,   Canada   (05.25.10)
Is philo-semitism the answer to anti-semitism and solution to racism? A German soldier shooting an Israeli is unthinkable, but shooting an Arab poses no problem? Why not just leave the IDF in charge? Maybe the Germans would be well advised to undergo another round of denazification. Or, to pacify Kathy (no 3) and others, maybe they should just shoot each other and thus rid the world of racism.
