2. Pic: Hitler And Chamberlain Shaking Hands
Marc ,   Jerusalem   (08.02.06)
http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/triumph/hitler-chamberlain.jpg Yeah, that meeting and that piece of paper Mr. C held up to the British people and to the world, really made a difference. Be a winner, rather than a looser.
3. Who is living in a fantasy world?
Yehu Ben Zohar ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.02.06)
People who think you can reason with religious fanatics who have sworn to murder all Jews. These people are living in a fantasy world where if we can just sit down and discuss this we can have peace. It's not going to happen.
4. The only language the ayatollahs understand

5. Talk to Iran?
SR ,   NYC   (08.02.06)
But Israel doesn't or shouldn't exist, as far as Iran leaders are concerned. Why isn't anyone talking about Muslim/Arab mentality: forked-tongued conniving lie/cheat/steal hate the infidel any smiles and peace overtures only tactical, never sincere backward, driven by revenge and frustration at own impotence. I know, somebody will point it to me that the same things were said about Jews once. Well, they were wrong then and they're wrong now with the new anti-Jew terminology! :) Anybody who's non- Muslim and has lived in M.E., whether Christian or Jewish, would attest to strong presence of the above-enumerated traits. In the timeless words of Roger Waters, "Hello, is there anybody out there?"
6. Have you been asleep for 3 weeks?
Bemused ,   London   (08.02.06)
Halevy's assessment would be right if the IDF was not being shafted by HZB.
7. Mr. Halevy, look who you're talking about
Zionist ,   Israel   (08.02.06)
Iran is run - politically, economically, socially, and ideologically - by a theocratic fundamentalist Islamist regime whose goal is complete world domination and the cleansing of the infidel. The Iranian president and clergy are no different ideologically than Bin-Laden in their desire to conquer the world. The only difference is that Iran, with its state structure of support for terrorism, is seen as more civilized than the Taliban, and therefore worthy of standard diplomatic discourse. This is a huge mistake. Just as there is international consensus that Bin-Laden shouldn't be dealt with diplomatically, the same should go for any other fundamentalist Islamist who declares openly to the entire world their intentions of genocide.
8. talk to Iran
zak ,   Toronto Canada   (08.02.06)
Brilliant idea. I have a better one: let's talk to a wall. At least it does not want to nuke Israel.
9. The author is right about one thing
Stacie ,   Canada   (08.02.06)
Ephraim Halevy: "Two months ago Iran scored an impressive diplomatic victory: On May 31 Secretary of State Rice announced a dramatic shit in US policy towards Iran, and reversed a 25-year-old boycott of Tehran." Condi's dramatic 'shit' sure is hitting the fan. If the US thought it had probelms in Iraq, the Ayatollah is making sure they will: Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani: 'We will not forgive anyone who opposed a cease-fire in Lebanon.'
10. VICTORY?
KS ,   LEBANON   (08.02.06)
Israel's victory? What victory? just today hizbullah launched over 200 rockets into israel, reaching places not reached before. Was this guy drunk when he wrote the article? I DEFINATELY THINK HE WAS!
11. No to Iran
Brod ,   USA   (08.02.06)
Iran is governed by a fanatical Islamist regime that is determined to annihilate Israel. It is also a sponsor of Islamist terrorist organizations worldwide. It would be foolish to talk with such a regime. Halevy is definitely wrong in his perception and analysis.
12. THIS IS THE DEPENDS WAR. YOURS ARE FULL.
(08.02.06)
GO BACK TO THE NURSING HOME AND LET THE YOUNGSTERS DEFEAT THESE IDIOTS.
13. Dramatic sh-- in US policy towards Iran
Kyle ,   Reston, USA   (08.02.06)
"Two months ago Iran scored an impressive diplomatic victory: On May 31 Secretary of State Rice announced a dramatic shit in US policy towards Iran, and reversed a 25-year-old boycott of Tehran. " You got that right. The policy of appeasement is complete bull sh--!
14. Keep the pressure on
gfd   (08.02.06)
The hizzbos are between a rock and a hard place. As long as Iran keeps arming them and telling them to fight they have no option but to continue doing so. As they do Israel will continue to kill them. If Iran stops arming them they lose their power militarily and politically. It is now crystal clear to the world that they are simply a terrorist puppet of Tehran. Iran is at a crossroads. The world is not about to let them develop nukes after what they are doing in Lebanon and Iraq. Tehran is going to have to choose between cooperation and confrontation, and soon.
15. Like the french
Joy   (08.02.06)
talk to them, make them feel important but dont allow nukes. it will confuse their policy making on Israel and if they attempt to accuse Israel afterwards it will not have any weight internationally.
16. Iran mus be destroyed. Dont make WW2 Mistakes Again!
(08.02.06)
17. what battelfield victory?
ojjay ,   lebanon   (08.02.06)
I'm not sure if im hearing this correctly? is our mighty author calling this a victory? if you're refering to the ruthless killing of innocent kids and women, and the barbaric destruction of bridges and roads a victory then you might have a point.. but being held in a narrow 6 Km strip of lebanese land after dropping more than twice the bombs that were dropped on iraq in the second gulf war and 22 days of f heavy fighting can hardly be heralded as a victory... israel made a dear mistake this time, a mistake that will cost israelis for generations to come ....
18. Taming the Untamable
abe ,   baltimore, US   (08.02.06)
If history teaches us anything it is this -- every time Israel has "talked" to its implacable enemies it has only lost ground in its quest to live in peace. E.g., Oslo, Madrid, etc. Egypt, the only example of successful negotiations, is not at all instructive here -- she got something in return, she was bought off by US aid, and she was roundly defeated by Israel 3 times. Iran and her Shiite proxies have nothing that they want from Israel other than her destruction. They cannot be boughtnor spoken to.
19. If this stupid guy was Mossad chief so everybody can be too
(08.02.06)
20. Iran gave Bush an offer of peace
MARK ,   USA   (08.02.06)
I think they should talk. They were willing to recognize Israel and stop funding terrorists. Bush refused to look at such an offer. That was a mistake. Worst case scenario, no agreement on issues between Iran and US. It could not hurt. You can always go the military way.
21. A voice of reason at last
Dave ,   South Africa   (08.02.06)
... and gets shot down in flames. Israel is never going to destroy its enemies militarily. Never ever, face it. Nobody with any intelligence believes otherwise - even if you kill every single one that exists there will be new ones tomorrow. In fact this latest ' war' has added hundreds to the ranks already so where is the logic. To destroy Israels enemies to an extent of 80% you would have to nuke Iran, Syria, Lebanon for starters. I can't see that happening so in the name of common sense why can you not accept you are going to need another plan.
22. Victoryyyyyyyyyyy
JME ,   USA   (08.02.06)
YEAH.... Victory, my foot. I don't think people in Israel should be (or are for that matters) so gullible. WOW. Does anyone really buy this load of c%#p. Yeserday, the mighty soldiers implemented an exceptional operation, and were able to .... abduct 6 civilians??? (one of which was a child which they released later). Among the abducted are a sheep herder, a mechanic, and a famer and his son. VICTORYYYYY Olmert proclaimed that all of the Resistance's infrastructure was destroyed. But, wait a minute, it rained over 200 rockets today. Wow, I would hate to see what would've happened if their infrastructure was still intact. VICTORYYYYYY At the start of this military operation, the foxy and hawkish generals said they only needed two weeks. Three and a half weeks later, the still need two weeks to finish. VICTORYYYYYY There are about 10,000 tough and courageous and brave soldiers fighting in Lebanon with cutting edge weaponry. They are fighting ... Who? an enemy of what? 2000 fighters at the most with WWII era klashinkovs and Katyushas who are still able to hold their ground after being clobbered for three weeks!!!! VICTORYYYYYYYY Oh, I'm confused. What is Victory exactly? would real Victors, of Yom Kippur for example, see what's happening today as similar to what they have accomplished in the past???? It used to take six days to win against the enitre Arab world. What's happening now?
23. Talks with Iran
Adam ,   Raanana, Israel   (08.02.06)
And then once we've spoken to Iran we can talk to the nuke as its falling towards Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. Give me a break, these people make deals in the way of their prophet. Sign a peace treaty and destroy their enemy as their back is turned. Talking to Iran is like talking to a shark about considering vegetarianism as its on its way to bite you.
24. Mr. Halevy
Sean ,   MontrĂ©al, Canada   (08.02.06)
Before I begin Mr. Halevy let me tell you that I am writing from a country where your former agency continued to illegally use Canadian passports contrary to assurances from your politicians. Your article was pragmatic. the reality is that politicians may say whatever they choose publicly but when it comes to matters of national security their actions betray their words. It is why I am convinced that you think Iran can be negotiated with. Somebody would buy their oil regardless of what sanctions are in place. They must know this. Pakistan proved that it was willing to let the people eat grass in order to attain nuclear weapons. Surely Iran is aware how Israel dealt in the past with a neighbour who attempted building the bomb. It is your nations historical disregard for international norms that, ironically, will have the Iranians more than willing to listen. I mean no disrespect by stating this. I wish your nation well in any diplomatic endeavors. Sadly between now and then many will perish .
25. A NEW CHAMBERLAIN
SEF ,   USA   (08.02.06)
APPEASEMENT, ISRAELI STYLE BY A USEFUL MORAL IDIOT. TALK TO PERSIA? YEAH, RIGHT,,,,,,,,,, GO TAKE YOUR THORAZINE HALEVY...DEMENTIA IS SETTING IN THE GREY MATTER
26. Talk to Iran...hmm
Christopher ,   Austin, Texas USA   (08.02.06)
Yep we do need to talk to Iran. But the leaders of that country are JUST EXACTLY LIKE those of Germany and Japan in WWII. How to to talk with them? Of course Hitler and Tojo would have LOVED to talk with the Allies. They would have LOVED to discuss how we could just let them be and go about their 'bloody' business of world domination killing ANYONE who did not adhere to their beliefs. In the end the only 'talking' that was able to get them to stop their destructive ways, was threat backed up by the use of deadly force and total anihilation. We could have asked Hitler REAL NICE like and threw in some 'incentives' to get him to stop his quest for the bomb. But anyone with even 1/16th of a brain knows that he would have in no way given up his efforts to aquire one. Why would he? So yes we do need to talk to the Iranians, Syria and shitzbollah with language they are able to understand: DEADLY FORCE. Bomb everything they value into dust, and in the end if need be, like in Japan, if they can't 'hear' us, talk LOUDER with a nuke on Tehran. They juuuuuuuuuust might hear us then.
27. #17 you can fool some of the people some of the time, links

28. IRAN as an interlocutor
vour   (08.02.06)
Sorry to disappoint you all, but Iran will eventually be nuked by the US in the coming months, so there will be no one for Ephraim to talk to. Sorry.
29. Sickos
Pete ,   Seattle WA, USA   (08.02.06)
I'm sorry, but those two links in #27 just say a lot about the extreme people od Islam. Someone walking around with a "prepare for the real holocaust" should be shot on the spot. People walking around with massacre them and exterminate them, open your eyes world, THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!
30. #27
Jay ,   USA   (08.02.06)
These pix are doctored up!!! And a very poor job by the way. You can tell immediately they are not real!!! You should go sit by your government side, you seem to have all the qualifications, well the one they require, specifically: dishonesty. Geez!!! Why don't you try to be honest for a change, for your own sake. Stop lying to your self and your bretheren. This kind of cheap tricks don't work anymore. They will only turn around and bite you where the sun don't shine....
