Speaking the language of the Middle East     Guy Bechor
1. middle-east language
This guy seems to ignore he belongs to the biggest terrorist gang in the world.
Djazaïri ,   France   (08.04.06)
2. Welcome to the Middle East
Welcome to the Middle East and join the rest of the region countries in their way down the drain. It seems that this region will never have peace until the Aharit HaYamim.
Egyptian   (08.04.06)
3. Never mind the French Jihadist in #1 your article is perfect
You must promise them that for every 1 Israeli they kill you will kill 1000. After all there are 6 million Jews in the ME and 350 million Arabs. It wont be "disproportionate."
Christian Bianrossa   (08.04.06)
4. you have no idea guy
I think that Israel with it's huge war machine are more astonished from the way Hesballah fighting but the Arabs are used to such coward actions from Israel and it seams that till now not you not Israel didn't know the language of the middle east and if once you will find out which language we speake then we will have peace but your report shows that you are still ignorant with the middle east's language .

5. An old Arabic saying....
When you speak with a mule, speak in the tongue of a mule..... I saw you today in the TV - you are 100% correct: where are the pictures? where are the bodies, where are the prisoners? The BIG problem is that our army has gone in two directions: 1) The lower officers, those who have contact with the soldiers - they are the best there are. They give all of themselves and are super-dedicated, and becuase of this, the IDF soldier of today is way better than the solider that fought in Lebanon the last time, not to talk about how much better than wehn I was in the regular army. 2) The higher officers - a bunch of low lifes that are intimidated by "four mothers" "carmela menashe", and are more worried about ethics than winning. If I had my chance... I prefer the situation like it is.... Halutz can piss his pants all he wants, as long as our soldiers are pushing the Hizbollah back without hardly any casulties (just look what happened in "Mivtza Litani") BUT - I think that Israel must change the head of our army in order to put it in tune with our sodiers, and our population, which has more balls than the professors that have been running the army since Olso.
Z Lando ,   Tekoa, Israel   (08.04.06)
6. At last
we see printed what was evident to most people in Israel long ago. Up till now only the "right" press dared say the truth without fear of being called warmongers. Thank you for the article.
NUL ,   Jerusalem   (08.04.06)
7. Hurray. Guy Bechor for Prime Minister
It doesn't make sense to worry about hearts and minds when an enemy is infected by a radical hatred such as Islamism. Our enemy is our enemy because he wants to be our enemy, Not because we havn't been nice to them. Israel has a choice and as Guy said, maybe this time we are on the right track. The choice is to try to be nice and be thanked for it by suicide bombers and missiles (see Oslo peace process and the retreat from Lebanon) or to kick ass and chew bubblegum. Leaving Gaza was good, just like leaving Lebanon wasn't a bad idea. The good thing about it was because it was done for Israel, not for the Arabs. The Oslo peace process was the opposite and therefore just made them only hungry for more. They think they froced us to acdept Oslo, we thought we were achieving peace. The Arabs got to understand that they are stuck with us, no matter what they do just like we already know they won't be going away. The Jews are the most stubborn nation on earth. Not only that, the Germans thought us a lesson we will never forget and Islamic extremism is making sure we won't. The best way to get rid of the Jews is to be nice to us. To make peace and be friends so that we will assimilate. But the Arabs and the Muslims are forcing us to embrace our Jewish and Israeli identities.
Daniel ,   Amsterdam   (08.04.06)
8. Real language
I do think that Hizbullah is really fighting too well against the middle east most advance army. One after another Hizbullah is giving surprises to IDF .. Navy Warship , Helicopters , firing of missles , stopping the advancements of IDF on Ground and recently saying it will attack Tel AVIV with missles if beirut is hit . In real an organization of some thousand fighters challenging IDF. Olmert should have kept the respect of IDF, Its like being an adult fighting with a stubborn kid .
Faisal ,   Hyderabad India   (08.04.06)
9. #4 - Translation
We won't play as dirty as you and your terrorist buddies. Or can't - imagine us trying to use human shields. Wouldn't work, would it? Because none of you actually give a rip about life.
Haifa, Israel   (08.04.06)
10. Lessons learned
Ask the Syrians,Egyptians,Iranians and Palestinians how to deal with arabs who make trouble. The arab nations massacre their own people on a daily basis. How many Egyptians did Mubarak hang for opposing him? How many thousands of Jordanians did Hussein slaughter on Black Saturday? How many thousands of his own people did Assad kill, or Hussein? The palestinians murder any Pal who is even thought to be an Israeli sympathiser Arabs know how to keep themselves in line-they respect only fear and death. They have no sympathy or respect for goodness or compassion. Any people who would use their own children as human shields knows nothing about humanity. Too bad we have to stoop to their abhorent level to survive.
David ,   Tel-Aviv   (08.04.06)
11. Far too many mistakes
What cannot be understood is Israel's indiscriminate bombing of targets that are known to be opposed to Hezbollah. By way of examples what is ther point of destroying TV stations that are vehemently opposed to Hezbollah, Syria and Iran, namely LBC, Future TV and NEW TV. What is the point of hitting two churches. Who are they trying to impress. The net results of such stupid actions is that friends and foes are now rallying behind Hezbollah.
nehad ismail ,   camberley, england   (08.04.06)
12. to Faisal: islam, the ideology of hatred and conquest
Islam is not a religion, though the Muslims pray 5 times a day. Islam is the ideology of hatred and conquest. The Muslims cannot even conceive the idea of losing an inch of the islamic (i.e. conquested and islamized) territory. Not because they are so stupid or so brave. It`s just prohibited in the Quran. NB. But of course they never experienced any trouble with coming, invading and islamizing the other people lands. To understand the islamic ideology, we should probably spend more than just one night. 1) Read this first, and meditate: "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy." Abraham Lincoln "Thereupon I concluded: As I would not be a dhimmi, so I would not be a Muslim." Ali Sina 2) Then watch this, and think about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaUmFvg2zNU&mode=related&search=mullah 3) Finally, read the "source"! Yes, read the Serial Killer User Manual, the Quran. Why not, after all? The problem with people is that they never read the books they are talking about so passionately.

13. To Israeli and Lebanese People
To Israelis: I live in Jounieh, in this area lives the majority on Lebanese who are against Hezbullah, and who never considered Israel as an enemy, Thx to the IAF and after attacking Jounieh now they do so. We still have one more bridge, I hope that IAF will bomb it as soon as possible, and continue to kill civilians and destroy infrastructure, because still some Lebanese do not consider Israel as real enemy we would like to push them to see the clear image. What the hell you are talking about and for what IDF is doing that? Admit that your Government lost against Hezbullah resistance, and the more IAF hit civilians and infrastructure the more Israel is loosing supporters for peace and proving more and more that Hezbullah was right by defending its strategy. Where is the difference between the strategy of IDF and the one that was adopted by the Nazis? Bombing roads that lead out of villages in the South of Lebanon that civilians might use to evacuate and kill women & children there!! Olmert’s strategy and after receiving his orders from G.W.Bush is based on making civilians suffer for the sins of Hezbullah whom they failed to defeat them till now even in one battle. Your government is blind, real blind with hatred and arrogance. You will hit the wall pretty soon. Lebanon won’t surrender, and the more you hit civilians the more Hezbullah is gaining the support of even moderate Lebanese people, Go out from your shelters and see the truth of this war, your troops didn’t accomplish one victory and day after day they are COMING BACK HOME IN COFFINS? IT’S LEBANON DON’T FORGET. For me It’s more clear now, your stupid Government have chosen the hate as a strategy towards Lebanon. And to All Lebanese I say: you are wondering why Israel is bombing Christian areas? Do you really think Israel cares about Christians Leb? Is Beirut airport ONLY for Muslims? Are Power stations ONLY for Muslims?? Are Bridges ONLY for Muslims?? It’s a war against Lebanon. They want to destroy Lebanon and they admitted it before they started this war. You already forgot what IDF chief said: Turning Lebanon 20 years back??? Israel doesn’t have the courage to face Hezbuallah face to face because they want to avoid troops casualties so they are destroying Lebanon in order to make Lebanese people hate Hezbuallah and get rid of it by themselves or Hitting Hard Christians thinking this would lead to a civil war between Muslims and Christians in Lebanon. Unfortunately, Israel gave Iran and Syria what they wanted and offered Victory to Hezbullah. A Real Lebanese

14. Economic Victory
Israel -> Use some of that money that the US gives you and help out your brothers to the north and the south. Build infrastructure, produce jobs, create an economic reliance on the state of israel. It is exactly what Hamas and Hezbollah are doing right now. They are overflowing with recruits, lets change this trend. You CAN win the hearts and minds!
Bob ,   Rochester, NY   (08.04.06)
15. Arabs vs. Asian Muslims, use and abuse
Reuters (JAKARTA) More than 200 Islamic militants from Southeast Asia have been sent on missions to bomb Israel's "vital interests" and countries that support the Jewish state.. Let me point your attention on it, because I do know the Asian Muslims, especially the Indonesians. For exemple, when you arrive on Lombok, a small island 20 min flight from Bali, the first thing you'll see at the airport would be dozens of bearded Arabs in this absolutely ugly Ben Laden style. It's not rare either to see a couple of Hezbollah trucks (yes, I swear !) doing the propaganda in Mataram, the capital of Lombok. Everybody says that Lombok is full of muslim fanatics. The terrorists are on Jawa, the fanatics are on Lombok. They are building the mosques like crazy, hundreds of them are built in the areas without any single Muslim around. All the money comes from the arabic "brotherhood".. But don't misunderstand the most important point - the Arabes would never mix with locals: too dirty, too different, not islamized enough. So the Asian Muslims are actually like the Guinea Pig. That is, these sweet animals are not pigs, nor do they come from Guinea :-))

16. #12 agree with you
Yeah, i m agree with you. Islaam is an ideology & it has to deal with like one dealth with communism, naziism. Especially Europe needs to understand this who is usually soft & ignore that they are slowly getting caught in this fire. Still time to rething on their policy or we can see an Islamization of Europe in another 60-70 years.

17. #14 why don't u break the ice
Well Bob, Why don't you set an example for whole world. Just make a memorial for those who attacked World tower. let you finance Al-Quada, give them US citizenship, do their welfare programme. Try this out over iran & win their HEARTS AND MINDS. Good luck

18. U cant hide the truth
Zionist did really a good job in degrading islam and Muslim . But now its game is not working any more coz many countries are understanding the game plan they wants to show themselves as a real sufferer coz of muslims and Islam but in real there are using too much propaganda against muslims. The romans and Hitler did more against them compare to muslims, but in real its using all sought of weapons and occupying lands , Wht might be the reason that all arabs hate them . Its not Islam .. Arabs dignity have been hurted again and again by Israel.U occupy land from others and say that u gave them back for peace .
Faisal ,   Hyderabad India   (08.04.06)
19. #12

20. to my reporter friend /in his first mideast coverage
The rules of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS when it comes to the Israeli-Arab conflict: Rule # 1 : In the Middle East, it is always the Arabs that attack first, and it's always Israel who defends itself. This is called "retaliation". Rule # 2: The Arabs, whether Palestinians or Lebanese, are not allowed to kill Israelis. This is called "terrorism". Rule # 3: Israel has the right to kill Arab civilians, this is called "self-defense", or these days "collateral damage". Rule # 4: When Israel kills too many Arab civilians, the Western world calls for restraint. This is called the "reaction of the international community". Rule # 5: Palestinians and Lebanese do not have the right to capture Israeli military, not even a limited number, not even 1 or 2. Rule # 6: Israel has the right to capture as many Palestinians as they want (Palestinians: around 10000 to date, 300 of which are children, Lebanese: 1000s to date, being held without trial). There is no limit; there is no need for proof of guilt or trial. All that is needed is the magic word: "terrorism". Rule # 7: When you say "Hezbollah", always be sure to add "supported by Syria and Iran". Rule # 8 : When you say "Israel", never say "supported by the USA, the UK and other European countries", for people (God forbid) might believe this is not an equal conflict. Rule # 9: When it comes to Israel, don't mention the words "occupied territories", "UN resolutions", "Geneva conventions". This could distress the audience of Fox. Rule # 10: Israelis speak better English than Arabs. This is why we let them speak out as much as possible, so that they can explain rules 1 through 9. This is called "neutral journalism". Rule # 11: If you don't agree with these rules or if you favor the Arab side over the Israeli side, you must be a very dangerous anti-Semite. You may even have to make a public apology if you express your honest opinion (isn't democracy wonderful?)

21. To a Real Lebanese
Who care about your attitude to Israeli if you allow your countrymen to shoot at Israeli homes? If for 60 years you did not want to accept Israel as a your good neighbor, may be now you will accept it as dangers one. Do you understand that events of the lust month kill an idea that if Israel will return territory it will be able to live in peace with their neighbors?
Viktor   (08.04.06)
22. Prisoners vs. Hostages - Moral Equivalents ?
I have seen many people try to say "Look how many prisoners Israel has... 10,000 !! and Hizbullah only has 2 ?? Why is Israel crying so much about this?" I think the Israeli government needs to speak more clearly about this issue, and explain that when the detainees that they have were taken, they did not take them and then demand something from someone. It is my understanding that whatever prisoners Israel has, they have them because they suspected the person of a crime, or the person has been convicted of a crime. They DIDN'T detain the person and then say to the arabs "Ok we want this demand and that demand in order to let these prisoners go". That is the difference. Israel does not use the people it suspects or convicts of a crime as a "bargaining chip". Here in the US, a while ago we had someone known as the "Beltway Sniper" who was just shooting random people in the Washington DC area. He is now in jail. Can you imagine if someone captured one of our soldiers and then demanded that this "beltway sniper" person be released in exchange for a soldier? We would not take this request seriously, because the two situations (that of the soldier and the beltway sniper) are not equivalent. Here in the US, I have not seen many of the spokespeople for Israel mention this in interviews...they have pointed out that some of the detainees/prisoners did horrible things, but they havent mentioned the difference between holding someone that is suspected of a crime, and capturing someone and demanding something in return.

23. First good article in a far left paper
I was surprised reading this article, and even more surprised to see it on this site. This guy said what most people in Israel knew all along. Hizbullah, Lebanese el-presidente, do not have a choice or a chance. If not for Olmert-Peres-Peretz (is Livni in Finland?) we would have won a few days earlier.
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (08.04.06)

Peter, you said it very well! Very good English. So, in the comfort of your secure far-from-Israel home, continue fooling yourself (and possibly few other brainless people).

26. middle east language
i would have to say then you are totally wrong. as you have given no reason for your point of view.. you know nothing of what the christians in lebanon have said and will say about hizbullah.. talk to the christians they will tell you...

27. economic victory
Bob. to be honest I think youve been misled.. sadly.. its not about money in the region its about religion.. hamas and hizbullah do what.. take international aid, and then where does it go.. surely not to the people.. do some research, unbiased research.... good luck....

28. Great articel but...
You have to get the message out to the world. Mabe then they will start to understand the israeli position.

30. Yes, No talk now of significant Hez "victories"
They are going down. They've lost their human shields and although have some "surprises" , as Nasrallah claims, they will be put right down. Militarily anyway. Of course they will be around to be a pest, but they'll no longer be effective, no longer be useful to Iran militarily. Which then leaves the options open for dealing with Iran much less complicated. They'll never admit it : Boy, did they ever make a mistake. They peaked too soon playing childish games. Iran is being directly challenged now to fire via Hez proxy, the Zelzals. If they give the go ahead it will be the start of the end for Iran, but I dont think you need to be too smart to work that out.
