Israeli Arabs' catch 22    Basam Jaber
1. wretching
the man makes me vomit.
gadalyah   (08.06.06)
2. Whining
If you can't demonstrate against Nassrallah, then at the very least don't speak up in favor of Nassrallah. When you call that bastard your brother - then you tie your fate with him, not with us. When you scream "war crime" about a house in Qana but remain silent about a house in Acco, then your silence speaks volumes about what you care about, and it is not peace. Spare me your whining about the dual nature of your existence. Others have lived that experience but managed to do it without betraying their state.

3.  I don`t understand all of this article!
When I was a little child, we had families in two different german states. It was difficult. Very difficult in every times. "german" was a unknown word!!! And today it is a unknown word "german". War is in every state the difficultst time! But it cleard many relationships! A good soldier is in every time against war, because he will win the war, the battle, the time for his life! A good soldier is striking for freeing his comrades! And a good soldier can not sleep, when in his country are terroristic attacs every day, daylie bread for his children, for his families! Israel is not food to / at his enemies!
schulz ,   bad germany   (08.06.06)
4. Everything begins with education
We are taught to hate as children and when we grow up we kill each other. It would take several generations to overcome the rooted reciprocal hatred and to be able to accept each other.
Proud Grandpa ,   www.KingArik.net   (08.06.06)
5. It's Your Friends the Lebanese That Must Stop the War
They're the ones who kidnapped the soldiers, sends rockets to Israel and has terrorists citizens. So don't do any preaching to Israel. Israel is just fighting for their rights. And if some civilians in Lebanon are killed, as accomplimces to terrorists, they're part of the group, thus should be killed.
H ,   Jerusalem   (08.06.06)
6. Arab unity is great, but double-standards isn't
This guy has good intentions, but he misrepresents the facts on the ground. I think he knows very well that Israeli Arabs, although for the most part non-violent, openly support the Palestinian cause, not the Israeli cause. This therefore means that even though they don't support terrorism, they support a government that does. I never really understood why the world accepts the "international Arab alliance" as legitimate, but not the American-Israeli alliance. Arabs in Egypt have every right to come to the rescue, finance and support Arabs in Lebanon and the disputed Palestinian territories, but if America helps Israel, oy va voy. Just another case of double-standards that Israel is held to.

7. Why Peace movements don't contribute to peace.
When war is already here it doesn't help to call for peace. Both sides are feeling under attack and you look traitors to both. Looking for solution helps and this is what is done by US, France, Security Council. When war is here it will end when some side wins and some side looses or when some third side, strong enough to enforce peace will do it. Your time will come when war is over. Demonstrate and struggle against those that create conditions for new conflicts. Tell to those that prepare and perform hostilities, teach hatred, smuggle arms, etc. You could prevent the current war if you have taken strong actions against Hezbollah BEFORE Israel strike back. You could prevent hostilities in Gaza if you raise your voice when Hamas has fired rockets on Israel after withdrawal from Gaza. You could ensure Palestinian development if you protest against teaching hatred in schools. I understand you, but if you want peace and prosperity for your people you should do the right thing at right time. Peace movements don’t contribute to peace now and here because they are doing the right thing BUT at wrong time, and don’t do nothing when it is time to act.
Haim ,   Israel   (08.06.06)
8. The real catch for Israeli Arabs
Is that they always support evil Arab leaders. Remember Saddam Hussein? I bet they support Ahmedinihad as well. Bassam Jaber says: "We do not voice our protests against Nasrallah because the majority of the Arab population in Israel opposes war". Sorry that is such B-S. Why do they not oppose any other war in the world, only the wars Israel reluctantly has to fight? Strange isn't it, they don't oppose the war in Iraq, not bothered by the thousands of Iraqis dying; don't oppose the massacre in Darfur. They supported Saddam's massacres of his own people (there we go again with "our people'). I spoke the other day with a Christian Arab neighbor and was quite shocked to hear her supporting Nasrallah. She said Hizb'allah are Lebanese fighting for Lebanon and doesn't understand why Israel cannot see this. She also said that Israel shouldn't have started this war (Israel???), and said that she doesn't understand where Israel got the notion that Hizb'allah wants to erase Israel off the map; no mention of the provocations by Hizb'allah, the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers from sovereign soil, firing of Katushas, amassing tons of weapons (what does she think they are for?). What she is forgetting is that Hizb'allah is an extreme Muslim terror organization that would not allow her to go around dressed in western style as she does. Either she is an idiot or she thinks that I am. Well I'm wide awake now. Bassam, maybe you should all consider living with "your people" in the vast areas of the Arab world and then you won't have any complex dilemma. Your article doesn't ring true; remember you can only fool Uri Avneri and his cronies. The rest of us Israelis don't buy it anymore. You are the ones who should be waking up and shaping up…

9. Playing the victim as usual
He mentions how much he loves Lebanon multiple times, but never once mentions even an appreciation of what being Israeli has given him. Free speech, above average quality of life and a home that is only ever attacked by his 'beloved' Arabs with their rockets. A complete joke of an article that plays on the Arabs perpetual and yet always feeble victimhood.
George   (08.06.06)
10. Wait just a second
When people ask why the 22 Arab states won't take in the Palestinians, the Palestinians are so quick to say that they are not Lebanese, Egyptian or Syrian, but they are Palestinian. Over and over the Palestinians say that not all Arabs are the same, and even suggesting it is ignorant. But all of a sudden when the Lebanese, or Iranian proxies start attacking Israel, all of a sudden the Arabs are all the same people again. I think people are slowly waking up to the Palestinian/ Israeli Arab doublespeak.

11. this is totaly B*S*
Yes i believe Arabs in Israel are against war ... fact is Jews in israel are against war too... this is why we dont start any even if we can... The truth is, Israeli Arabs are enjoying good life in Israel , nothing like a Jew would experience living in an Arab country (which is why Jews had to leave thier homes in arab countries and come to israel because they were linched by thier neihbours) , so here you are Arab citizens of israel enjoying good and peacefull life in a democracy in which you can make your voice heard and no one will kill you for expressing your views. No doubt you would not enjoy this freedom in any of the arab countries . So stop winning , we undestand you. Telling the truth is always difficult. After all if you love lebanon so much or any other Arab country and want to feel free you can go and live there anytime you wish and experience full and equal citizenship there, no one is stoping you.

12. More evidence that Arabs are psychotic.
Israel should deport these traitors back to Lebanon and Syria. They don't belong in a civilized country like Israel.

13. Hezbollah has not helped Palis
I feel that Hez'b hijacked the palestinian cause. can anyone tell me how this conflict is going to help the cause of the Palis in Gaza? i dont think in any way, so they should set better goals for their Arab brothers. As for the Palis i think their goals should be clear, either peace for land, land for rockets or erasing state of Isreal. when the goal is clear i guess Isreal will be ready to answer but for now it seems unclear and the Hezb have made things worse no one seems to think of whats happening in Gaza.

14. Arab's or Israeli's or both?
First off, I don't think your argument about being treated as second class citizens holds any weight, until such time as you as ISRAELI's are subject to the same requirements as Jewish citizens. Namely, military service. It's always easier to protest a government that you have no stake in supporting. Next, I would like to ask why you don't rail as loudly against hizbullah nesting within population centers, as you do against your own countries',(Israel, since you are supposed to be Israeli after all) attack against those guerrilla forces? Why do you not Protest against hizbullah and hamas leaders, as strongly and as openly as you do against the leaders of your own government? I don't expect you to be happy about other Arabs being killed, but I DO expect you to be honest as to whom is at fault. As Israeli Arabs, you have a unique opportunity to bridge the differences between Arab and Israeli, and become something greater, a TRUE Israeli Arab, someone a part of something that crosses the ages old divisions of hate and offers a solid hope for the future. But all I'm getting from your article, can be summed up in the first words of your last sentence. "We are Arabs"...... If you are truly only arabs, and if that is all you aspire to be, then you should cross a border and live with the divisions you choose, rather than standing up and trying to show the rest of the world that life can be better when not underneath a jihadist boot.

15. His people
He calls Arabs his people. What are over five million Israeli Jews then to him? For all I care, he can move to Lebanon or the territories and feel in his own place there, since Arabs are indeed his people.
Avraham ,   NY   (08.06.06)
16. double standards
Th enemy comes in many forms! Maybe the most important question we can ask ourselves in all of this is, "Who is our enemy?" Our battle isn't just in Lebanon, the enemy is also attacking our faith, families, relationships, homes, workplaces, health, and finances; stealing the very life out of us. Is there room for double standards? I think turning our backs on things is catching up with us. I think we can no longer turn a deaf ear to what is going on, burying ourselves in fantasy. Have we had enough yet? I hope so because maybe now we will fight for ALL that belongs to us and what the enemy is trying to steal from us!

Bassam, The Arabs in Israel and the Palestinians are Sunnis. The Hizbolleh are Shi'ites. You should be praying for your country, cause if Hizbolleh wins, you'll all be praying at the Shi'ite mosque.

20. The equation and expectations.
This is the equation: Israel expects Israeli Arabs to support the state where they win their bread, have their democratic rights in absurdum and that is Israel. The other side of the equation is to leave and make a living in an Arab state where their loyalty is. The equation is simple, sound and necessary! Algebra is well known to Arabs; why not apply it ?

27. THE REAL QUESTION IS VERY SIMPLE !
The real question is not if you are an Arab, but if you are a human being who is able to differ right from wrong; recognize an evil like Nasrallah+Hezbollah [+Hamas]! Read and remember some of Nasrallah's words about Israel and the Jews, and ask yourself if that is what you also believe in: Nasrallah announced on October 22 2002 - "if the Jews all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide." The New York Times qualifies this as "genocidal thinking" 1992 - "It is an open war until the elimination of Israel and until the death of the last Jew on earth." "The Jews are a cancer which is liable to spread again at any moment." "There is no solution to the conflict in this region except with the disappearance of Israel." When Israel ended its 18-year occupation of Lebanon in 2000, Nasrallah declared, "We have liberated the south. Next we'll liberate Jerusalem." Nasrallah statement in 1992, "It is an open war until the elimination of Israel and until the death of the last Jew on earth." In 2002, Sheik Nasrallah was quoted by the Lebanon Daily Star as encouraging Jews to move to Israel. "If they all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide." Hamas, your other brother, is exactly like Nasrallah – your real FAVORIT BROTHER. Hamas started its existence with its jihadist attacks against both military and civil targets in Israel. Hamas is a Sunni organization, but is a protégé of the IRI [Iran – each year Hamas receives from Ahmadinejad 1% of Iran's income; by Iranian law]; it follows a strict charter, which is not different from IRI’s official policy towards Israel. According to this charter, the State of Israel must be wiped off the region and replaced with an Islamic republic. Furthermore, Hamas will not accept any non-Islamic state in Palestine. Hamas opposes any peace process with Israel; it regards such a process a "betrayal of God's will". This is its fundamental difference with the PLO, which in 1988 recognized Israel's sovereignty. It was largely formed with the aid of the Ayatollah Khomeini's followers in the early eighties to spread Shia revolution in the region. [Hezbollah receives extensive financial help from Iran [and Syria]. logistically, the movement helped to fight Israeli occupation following the 1982 Lebanon war. Hezbollah's ideology based on the Shiite Islam, specifically in the concept of "Willayat-e-Faqih" put forth by Shiite Islam in Iran. Hezbollah's slogan says, "God is the target, the Prophet is the model, the Koran the constitution, jihad is the path, and death for the sake of God is the loftiest of the wishes”. Hezbollah is considered by the West as a terrorist organization, but it recognized as a political party in Lebanon, where it has now 14 seat in the parliament and two ministers in the government. The movement claims that its goal is not to establish an Islamic state in Lebanon [!]. Nevertheless, the claim can be a tactic to divert Lebanese from the catastrophal results of such a regime in Iran, which happens to be its sponsor.

28. Arab MKs are disgrace
The Arab MKs have been representing the interests of the Palestinians rather than their own constituencies. No matter what happens, they have always justified the Palestinians. Maybe, just maybe in just one single occasion during the long conflict with the Palestinians Israel was right? Why your voice was not heard then.. The Arab MKs are disgrace and they constitute a fifth column. I strongly believe that a moment will come eventually when Israeli citizenship of these MKs will be revoked. I voted all my life for the left parties, but since you MKs have crossed all red lines, next election I (and believe me that many others) will vote of Lieberman and he will know how to deal with you guys. I would suggest you to applay for a Palestinian passport.

29. There will never be peace....
This war, and all others like it, will never end until the "level headed" muslims of the world (especially ones that enjoy living in countries where they can freely write editorials) stand up and speak out against the fundamentalists, clerics, dictators and all others that use the muslim relgion to conduct terrorism.

30. comments on Reuters and others on War
Our problem and nation is that we dont "hang" our wounded ,dead ,bobmbed ,etc on the wall for everyone to see but lick our wounds secretly and quietly, as this is regretfully the horrible price of war. There are no winners, only justified actions and measures one has to take in order to live in peace, we simpley cant live under constant threat on our people and homes and play the target for every Moselm so called leader in order to justify his Ego maniack.
