Eli ,   Efrat, Israel   (08.09.06)
Typically, you both misread the article..... Its not about soldiers being "pussycats hiding behind guns pretending to be heroes". Its about us not WANTING to be at war, its about WANTING to be at peace and not HAVE to fight. But if it comes down to fighting- your butts are toast. I'd like to meet both of you on the battle field instead of blogging from your respective homes in wherever the hell you are...
32. An israeli soldier is the biggest heroe
Emilio ,   DC   (08.09.06)
I am an agnostic person. But I have lived in israel when I was young, and I can tell you that there is nothing that I would love to more than being an israeli soldier. You are fighting a just war, killing terrorist, defending your land an your people and eventually you will prevail. Trust me I feel bad when I hear that an Israeli civiilian has been killed, but I cry everytime I see that a soldier has died. But keep on going you will win. A country like Israel and its people make feel that god might exist, and I think that the soldiers and the people of Israel are the heroes.
33. Israel KICKS ASS
homeland_AR15 ,   USA!!!!!   (08.09.06)
God bless Israel and the IDF!!! the enemy uses human shields and they stand in the way and shield Israel. there are those who want negotiation and dialog, these people do not understand the threat of this enemy or thier nature. they think this is an isolated incident that can get cleared up with "talks" it wont work these muslim terrorist varmints (and thier friends like them around the world ) need to be destroyed, wiped out and exterminated from the planet once and for all. You are all heroes for doing what must be done.

37. to #6 - what are you so proud of?
danii ,   Tel-Aviv   (08.10.06)
You look cheerful, don't you? It's the hysterical hatred that deforms your face. I've seen that before. People dancing in the streets on 9/11, distributing sweets after the bombing of a bus in Jerusalem, exhibiting their hands full of blood during lynch in Ramallah, or praising martyrdom on al-Manar. They all have this vile expression. And they all are very proud, for some reason, like you. It's disgusting. Israeli soldiers cry, yes. It's because they think, a cultural thing. Thinking, they elect governments that send them to fight some insignificant terrorists face-to-face, when they could just have bombed to the ground the whole of the villages they are hiding in. And then, they are sad, because their friends get killed. So, about this despicable obsession with manhood that some bloggers here show without any self-respect that is, without even trying to hide their obvious and very basic Freudian complexes … You know that our missiles are far bigger than yours. Your country (or "authorities", whatever) still exists, only because our soldiers are able to cry. You should be thankful.
38. YAIR what are you thinking ? MAH ATAH CHOSHAVE ????
Mark ,   San Fran california   (08.10.06)
from this quote - "For more than sixty years he is trying to figure out what is worse - to miss those who deserve to die, or God forbid to hurt someone accidentally." The worst you have not discussed - if we lose, we lose the country and all its citizens - this is unthinkable, but you fail to acknowledge that if we lose, that is what will happen. So we MUST win, no ifs, no ands, no worrying about hurting others, no guilt about killing others who would kill YOU gladly... You seem to miss this point of reality... I figure this will be hard to digest, you certainly could not have been part of IRGUN that founded and fought for the start of the State of ISRAEL... This is not some momma's boy game (as you wistfully describe it),. The sooner you realize how spoiled you are, the sooner this war might turn around for the better for YOU ... When Shuki says he controlled a village by surrounding it, and then we lose about 10 guys in the same village - we have a problem, since encircling Hezzbollah warriors is NOT KILLING them, which we have to do, no ifs, ands or buts ....NO EXCUSES ( forget world opinion and oh so fashionable political corectness - THIS IS WAR ) B'Hatzlacha ....

Yair Lapid : stop trying to write something that makes sense in English. It doesn't work for you. Your articles sound like Barbara Cartland romances. Get a life.
40. who wrote this article?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.10.06)
An enemy of the I.D.F. This lapid must think we were all jounalists in the army. you have alot of nerve writing an article like this. Those men serving in lebanon are the men you never were. I do not know why the y-net allows a hater like you on their site.Your writing is more suited to an arab paper.
41. #37 You are right
Tunisian   (08.10.06)
that Lebanon still exist only because the honorable Lebanese resistance makes your soldiers cry....and we are thankful for that....God bless Nasrallah. btw good luck with that Freudian complex. Pitiful.

43. shame on you all!!
Sabra ,   My Country   (08.10.06)
Shame on you all!! The Lebanese people cry that the Israeli's are killing their innocent people. Why have you yet to turn to your own govenment for blame. How can a country support a known terrorist group like Hezbollah?? Why wont your own army protect you from these horrible terrorists. Is it just easier for you to let all the Israelis do it for you, and is it coincidence that you have the USA who will help you rebuild your precious Lebanon...so tell us what have YOU really done for your country?!?! It is always easier to to blame others, but the truth is you & your government had a lot of time to try to clean out these terrorists, but you chose to welcome them with open arms. Believe me the last place any soldier wants to be is anywhere remotely close to where they have been placed today. They are childeren being forced to fight terrorists and clean up your mess b/c you are cowardly people who hide behind animals who where masks out of shame or fear whichever you choose. These soldiers are deeply sadened by what they have been given to do, yet you all celebrate wave your flags and burn their flags, maybe you need to stop and take a look at what has become of you. Lapid's story is only a small fraction of what these children/soldiers have been forced to face. Just b/c you celebrate death, and violence does not mean everybody does!!
44. to 21mazen
sam ,   jerusalem israel   (08.10.06)
how sad and pethetic it must feel you, that tiny israel with 22 muslim countries surrounding it yet you still cant win a damn war, and if we only win wars with american weapons how did we win the 48 war especially and even in 67. Can i say hezbollah would have been defeated in 1 day had it not been for all the modern russian weapons you seem to be forgetting, also the usa supports israel because g-d has decreed it so, or do you not believe in g-d,out of all the countries in the world i believe 180 the one that supports us is israel,no coincidence there, it is g-d will so get you to it and stop crying, you should be use to losing already.
45. To Number 5
Allan ,   london   (08.10.06)
You speak of the German Wehrmacht, this you say is the primary group?? However they broke many many times, especially to Allied Air power and the vast soviet war machine. The German army won many battles but ultimately lost the war because of flawed tactics and biting off more than they can chew. Which is an excellent comparison to the Hizbollah who arein way over their heads in this war. They bargained on Israel trading or going for a few artillery strikes and that would be it. Also worth noting is your example of a "Primary Group" could not be more true than with the IDF who all share one goal and one aim in military doctrine. The IDF is a common bond in Israel and the unit you serve in is the link, with the country you are protecting and the loved ones at home. So for you to state the Hizbollah is a primary group is not true especially when a Primary group has one goal and on aim. Whereas Hizbollah are controlled by Iran and Syria and have different interests.
46. To Number 6
Allan ,   london   (08.10.06)
The IDF shows its emotions because it sees what scum people like you are and how you hide behind women and children and launch your rockets at civilian areas.. from civilian areas.. So whos the cowards? The ones you hide behind the women and have no remorse...
47. Innocent civilians
Faisal ,   Hyderabad India   (08.10.06)
Like every war , in this war also innocents have to pay the price from both sides. Soldiers and Fighters do have emotions of loosing their close ones. This war is having reasons too like every war. Israelis leaders did many mistakes first thing Hizbullah was created to resist IDF in Lebonan, When they left Lebonan in 2000, why they gone without any agreements and why they let Hizbullah to have all the weapons from Syria and Iran in 6 years. Every normal person of this world will ask this only why Israel was silent all the 6 years even after having all technologies..Hizbullah is not a part of lebonan army its an Organization. why Israel was silent when Hizbullah was storing 12000 missles. Ever since the Syrian armies left Lebonan democratic Government was weak .And there saw enough from the Civil War. Hizbullah are terrorists for some and Resistance for some But in all this Israeli Leaders are having fault by being silent all 6 years. Both Israeli civilians and soldiers are paying the price coz of these mistakes.
48. to #47 from India
G. ,   USA   (08.11.06)
I am glad you at least understand the situation with the heavy arms of Hizballah. But most of the world seems to support this, or I maybe better say, to ignore it !! they don't understand the danger in it, they don't even call Hizballah terrorists. Can you imagine what the world would say if Israel would begin this war some 2-3 years ago ?? esp. without any act of "being attacked" ? Look how the world hates Israel for doing it now although Israel has a good enough reason, few years ago the world would give her even more hell, because Israel is never allowed to initiate, only to retaliate on a specfic action done against her. The World always tends to hate Israel no matter what it does. When it does good they hate it (and forget to be thankful later on, for example the bombing of Iraq's nuclear in 1981), and when it does bad, which would not be considered bad if done by any other country on this planet, they hate her even more. It is very TRAGIC. All these condeming people would not do any differently if would be attacked......but it is so easy for them to blame the other side.......most never experienced living under constant threat of survival.......
49. Be hero or be dead?
Nissim ,   Toronto   (08.12.06)
May be Lapid think that his living next door to Canada, not Lebenon. Yes, he would like to think that he can go on with life while Aras are thinking day in and day out how to wipe us out from the face of this earth. Remember you live in the midst of people who see you as enemy and a threat to their excistence. With such an enemy we will have to live forever. So, stop crying, as crying is for the soft hearted people.
50. #2 HEY ADONIS!!

51. what about rebuilding a country--everyone?
Ron Azoulay ,   NYC, US   (08.30.06)
It is interesting to see how many of those that write against my country do not offer any assistance to their "fellow brothers and sisters". Instead of spending millions of dollars on war and fighting in lebanon, the hizbolla could have sent some money for schools, infrastructure, and reuilding the lebanese country. Instead of celebrating everytime a gazan youth decides that blowing himself up is better than teaching the rest of the youth, the arab countries might get off their butts and decide to speak out against bombing innocent civilians without any regards for who is targeted (even if it's a muslim, arab, or palestinian). Instead of protesting all over the world about stupid cartoons--they might decide to support education, literature, and speak out against violence. But as we all know, lebanon is now in destruction, gaza can't stabilize itself, jordan is being bombed by "muslims" and iraq is being destroyed. so, lebanese folks, quit thinking about how bad israel is for you and how you want to take a shower in jewish blook, start thinking about the infrastructure, education, and livelihood you are robbing you children of while dreaming of a glorious death in the arms of allah. Your visions are not realistic, and they are destroying yourself more than any one else. By the way, I teach, first grade in nyc, the only place where a palestinian boy can play for hours with an israeli girl without thinking that there is something wrong with learning from each other.
52. by the way
ron azoulay ,   nyc, usa   (08.30.06)
by the way, I am an israeli citizen, i served in the golani brigade, and i was stationed both in lebanon and the territories, I am now teaching in nyc but that does not mean i am not hoping to see martin luther king's jr. dream come true in the middle east, but that is not going to happen with SO MUCH HATRED BETWEEN PEOPLE! and that is sad
