6. Evidence?
"An IDF force from the Haruv Battalion arrested a Palestinian female suspected of intending to carrying out a suicide bombing in Israel. " Was she carrying a bomb or something? If not, how do they know she was on her way to carry out a suicide bombing? Or is this just another way for Israel to justify its inhuman checkpoint system in the West Bank. Oh, maybe she was carrying a knife, because everyone carrying a knife on them is out to kill someone - at least that's what the Israeli's say at checkpoints. Just throw her in jail now, beat the hell out of her and then maybe she'll confess. Fair trial? Are you kidding? She's Palestinian since when do they ever get a fair trial? She'll be sitting there for years without anything happening.

8. What Does Israel Expect?
You cannot expect Palestinians to stop attempting to attack Israel as long as they do not have their own freedom. You can only systematically oppress a large group of people for so long before they start to take action and rise up against occupiers. Colonial powers have eventually been kicked out of the countries they have occupied. Israel is currently the colonial power over Palestine and Palestinians will fight until they are given the freedom they deserve. Palestinians are not natural born killers or filled with an innate hatred of Jews, their hatred towards Israel has been built out of 58 years of history with the state of Israel. For the past 39 years they have been systematically oppressed by the Israeli government. Now the violence continues to rise as the Israeli oppression continues to rise to attempt to stop the violence. If any of us were born as a Palestinian I'm sure we would more than likely hate Israel as well. After spending 3 weeks in the West Bank I know trying to live there is hell and I can only imagine what it must be like to be stuck there. After 1967 Israel kept the Palestinians as second class citizens, and began to build illegal settlements, which stole Palestinian land. Tell me if you had your olive grove stolen or your house buldozed wouldn't you hate Israel too? Israel has for long wanted to get rid of the Palestinians and they are slowly trying to choke them to death. It is only natural in cases where ones freedom is being stepped on to take action and fight back to gain your freedom. It's happened all the time in history, in fact, that's how the US was founded! Our founding fathers got pissed at the British and attacked. Now when Palestinians attack soldiers (not civilians) it is called terrorism. Sadly many Palestinian groups resort to killing civilians which is entirely wrong and abhorable. But what choice are they left with? With the US making Israel one of the most modern armies in the world there is no way they can attack the army. Even Jews resorted to attacking civilians to help move toward the founding of Israel (The King David Hotel bombing). I am not in any way defending the use of terrorism by attacking civilians. All I am saying is that there is a deeper root cause to this problem, and that is that the Palestinians have no freedom and no hope for a future. If it is not natural for people to fight for those causes I do not know what is. Israel must offer the Palestinians a REAL state. Not one that's a bunch of ungovernable pieces like under the Clinton Plan, but ALL of the West Bank and Gaza. They must allow open borders with Jordan and Egypt as well so that Palestine can function like a normal country that does not have to fear Israeli control. Israel is a great country and I love it there, but even great countries make stupid mistakes. The occupation of the West Bank and Gaza was one of those mistakes. It is greatly in Israel's interest to make peace with the Palestinians, because the population of Israel cannot continue to oppress the larger population of Palestine indefinetly. I'll end with a quote from an Israeli PM: "I would have joined a terrorist organization." -- Ehud Barak's response to Gideon Levy, a columnist for the Ha'aretz newspaper, when Barak was asked what he would have done if he had been born a Palestinian.

9. # 6 Evidence, whats that??
I could not agree with you more, where is the evidence, did she have a bomb strapped to her, this is just utter israeli spin to let their people know that they are doing their job, after they have failed so dismally to stop rockets, to eradicate hizbullah, to take over border villages, and to justify to themselves and the world that killing civillians and destroying infrastructure is necessary, rather than diplomatic solutions and negotiations. I PITTY YOU. Truth hurts

What a load of crap. Do you think you are smart? I thought so... Your arguments are totally ignorant because you have bought the Palestinian propaganda hook line and sinker. Try looking at facts and history instead of the so-called Palestinian propaganda. There never was a palestinian people, never a state called palestine. These people are lebanese or jordanian by birth, just looking to leech off the land of Israel. Please look at facts before making your passionate plea...

12. WE ARE ALL DISPLACED FROM SOMEHWHERE, JZ
It is fascinating to me that people treat Palestinians as the most oppressed and dispossessed people on earth. JZ, when was the last time you read of a Tibetan strapping on a bomb and killing Chinese civilians? Yet Tibet has been occupied by China for more than 50 years, and the Dalai Llama has wandered the earth as result. How many Indian reservations have you visited, and how much have you atoned for living on land stolen from Native Americans? What about Australia, occupied now by the descendants of British convicts? Why aren't they forced to leave and give back what they took from the Aborigines? COULD WE PLEASE STOP THE HYPOCRISY!??!?! Could we please stop pretending that if only Israel gave up land, it would get peace? I wish that were so, but this is not about land, it has become clear. There is not enough land to satisfy the Palestinians, unless the land of Israel in all is rid of Jews. Read Michael Oren's book on the six day war, and cry over the fact that Israel tried to give back the west bank THEN, and was rebuffed by Palestinians afraid of negotiating the return of the land--afraid they would be killed for accepting that. The truly cynical and tragic manipulation of the Palestinians has been by their Arab "brothers" who claim to support them, yet don't spend their own vast oil wealth to help build schools, infrastructure, jobs, etc. Much better to write a check to a suicide bomber's family, if you're a Saudi, then provide for a hopeful future. I wish I could believe in land for peace. I used to. Now I realize that the Arab world --and Muslim world too--is so consumed by pathological hatred that nothing will satisfy its blood lust. There is no compromise for them. And that is the tragedy for us all. Think JZ, about the remnants of the Jewish community who survived the Holocaust. How many Germans, Ukrainians and Poles did survivors rise up and kill after their families had been systematically slaughtered, their homes stolen, everything they knew ripped from them? The answer is none. And that is because for some reason, the Jews decided that life was more precious than living for death, for vengeance. Some day, perhaps the Arabs will feel the same way. Then they will have a future worth living for. We cannot give it to them, no matter what we do. They must want it for themselves. And sadly for them, they don't. The tragedy is that in continuing to destroy themselves, they are determined to take the rest of us with them.

The problem is you. You are an idiot. You need to get therapy. Jews aren't willing to be your sacrifical objects any more. You need therapy. All the Arabs (there is no such thing as a Palestinian, my friend. It is a fraud) want to do is murder Jews. All you want to do is see Jews be murdered. No more Liberal Jew hater. The game is up, you mental defective. The Arabs are free. They have the Gaza all to them selves. Didn't you hear. The Jews kicked the other Jews out of Gaza. I know, you are a little slow to get the news. You must read your liberal bible the new york slimes.

16. Palestinians
i understand that they haven't got along with anybody. the Jordanians kicked them out because they couldn't be trusted to live in peace among the people and instead conspired against the government there to overthrow it and other places (arab countries/lands) have had the same result. you don't let a mad dog roam free in your backyard, whose obvious intentions are to eat you alive, you keep him chained up if you have any sense and if you have complete clarity concerning the situation you put him to sleep. israel is the one who has been oppressed by threats from these maniacs, never being allowed to rest, but the price of liberty is eternal vigilance. By their own words (palestinians/Hamas) they are condemned, saying they wish to annihilate the jews and push israel off into the sea and yet you sit here in DC and speak for the palestinians to justify their terrorism. there is no occupation and open borders are for those whose ignorance will be sure to steal their own freedom and way of life from them in due time no matter where they live. if Barak said he would have become a terrorist, he is one, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. the pressures of life tend to reveal what a man really is, what his true character is. don't sit here in land of the free and home of the brave and defend a people who are willing to kill babies and people indiscriminately and then lie about it at every turn saying it is about homeland when its about wiping out a freedom loving country because of a difference in their religious beliefs. These people have bred a culture of hate, their women seem to be the worst among them no doubt teaching their babies to hate the moment they are born. they have proved that the majority of them are terrorist by voting into power a terrorist organization, Hamas, not that there was ever any doubt. Arafat and his cronies were nothing but terrorist. and by the way you really need to retake a history course. we didn't attack the british we defended ourselves against their attack! and we didn't go around blowing up and killing innocent people. we had a boston tea party. don't even compare us patriots to these terrorists. and i'll end with this, you probably don't belong here and should be a person of interest for homeland security.

21. Terrorists planned to blow up Brit planes
Just heard that the Brits were in for a big suprise later today. A plot was discovered that Muslim terrorists planned to blow up 20 planes, apparently another suicide bomber group. Maybe the Brits will be more sympathetic to Israel's position now. Wonder if the BBC will change it's pro Muslim position now and report more fairly on Hizbullah issue.

26. #8 Michael
Michael - Of course there's a "Palestinian" people just as much as there's an "American" people. I have looked at history and I believe many of these people have been living there for hundreds if not thousands of years. If you read the Bible there have always been people other than the Jews living in the region. Palestinians are desendents of these people, the Canaanites. They have simply been Arabized under the Arab rule of the region which began in 700. In the 1880s only 5% of the region was Jewish the rest Arab Christian or Muslim. So don't try to turn historical facts to side with you - read the history of Palestine in any encylopedia and you will find this information - unless of course you believe the Palestinians have somehow manipulated the writers of encylopedias. http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761558705/Palestine.html Oh and wait till you are the one who is opressed to see if you still say moral equivilency is BS.

No I don't understand everything about the Palestinians from my time there, but I certainly understand them better than before I spent time there. Forgive me if I think that actually being there and meeting the people gives me a better idea of the situation than someone who just sees and hears about Palestinians on the news.

Palestinians are AMONG the most oppressed and dispossessed people on earth - not necessarily the most. Yes while some countries, mine included are built on land that once belonged to someone else does not justify Israel's doing the same. Situations have changed and forcing people out of their land and treating them as second class citizens is no longer considered a viable means of establishing a state. It is under this new world order that Israel must operate. There are many things that have been done in the past that would not be appropriate in the modern world, so that argument does not hold water. I’m not saying Israel needs to give back all the land where refugees once lived, just the land where Palestinians now live. Second at this point nothing can really be done about Native Americans and Aborigines, just as nothing can be done about refugee’s homes inside Israel, whereas something can be done about Palestine. Anyways, many other countries have carried out resistance movements against occupiers – this should be carried out against soldiers though and not civilians. You are right, however, about Palestine's Arab "brothers" being a road block to peace. They are just as much to blame for these tragedies as others. There is a theory that if given the opportunity for peace Israel and Palestine as 2 equally sovereign states in economic partnership would create an economic powerhouse in the Middle East - which is one reason why other Arab states have not cooperated fully in the peace process and try to block any movement towards peace between Palestine and Israel. Most of the Palestinians who do not accept the right of Israel to exist are refugees who's homes were once in modern day Israel. They are rightfully angry, but will have to realize that what is done is done and will have to take up new lives in the West Bank or Gaza with reparations from Israel. There will not be an end to the violence right away - too many years of hatred from both sides will prevent this - but over time I believe if given freedom Palestinians will enter into peaceful coexistence with Israel, especially after economic ties are developed. Before 1987 economic ties were there which maintained a relative level of peace and stability, but freedom was not there for Palestinians which eventually became the overwhelming factor. Finally, Jews did rise up after the Holocaust – it’s called the founding of Israel. Also known as the Israeli War of Independence or al-Nakba – depending on who you are. Even before that war Jews used terrorism to help establish their state – such groups as Lehi or Etzel – carried out a bombing of the King David Hotel.

Umm... Well when people don't have good arguements they turn to hurling insults, which my friend is what you are doing. I don't hate Jews or want to see them murdered. First Palestinians DO exist, read my entry to Michael. Second, while Israel pulled out of Gaza they controled all the access points into Gaza meaning that Gaza really had no chance to grow and govern itself. I love the country of Israel and have many friends there. I don't understand why people hate the Jews. Just because one criticizes the policies of the Israeli government does not mean they hate Jews. It is in Israel's best interest to make peace with Palestine as soon as possible and offer them an actual state not like one offered in 2000. I want to see Israel survive and that is the best way to do it.
JZ ,   Washington DC   (08.10.06)
30. #16 - PMG
Well, I certainly never said that terrorism was an appropriate response to the occupation. I was simply trying to get at what may be the root cause of Palestinians using terrorism. I beleive that terrorism is abhorant and inappropriate. Which is why I disagree with the stance of Hamas, just as much as I would disagree with the stance of Likud. Attacks against civilians have done nothing for Palestinians, but yet they do them because they are desperate. Palestinians are not hateful creatures - they are nice and wonderful people, just as Israelis are nice and wonderful people. But an environment where this is no freedom or hope for a future it is inevitable that hatred is formed. Hamas was elected for several reasons - not solely based on their terrorist policies. Fatah was corrupt and had accomplished nothing for the Palestinian people so they wanted change. Sadly the only other real option was Hamas. They wanted someone to actually stand up to Israel - not necesarily through terrorist methods - and Hamas was the strong choice. Also, Hamas, like many other Islamic parties has a good way of winning votes through their distribution of charities. I'm not defending people who go around and blow up babies, because the majority of Palestinians do not want to blow up babies or any innocent person for that matter. And depending on who you ask the Palestinians are just defending themselves too from the occupation. So you may want to define "defending." And throughout the revolutionary war civilians were intimidated and sometimes harmed for being loyalists. I'm proud of what our founding fathers did for bringing freedom and democracy into this world, and would never call them terrorists. I just think freedom and democracy should be spread to all people - including Palestinians. You are right Palestinians should not target civilians, however, I think that I would see an uprising against Israeli soldiers as a legitimate means of violence. I hope this situation can be solved through negotiations and that the Palestinian people will one day be free and have their own country that will live side-by-side with Israel. Oh, and why don't I belong here? Is it because I disagree with you and you feel threatened by that? My ancestors came to America before the revolutionary war and I am a proud American and would never do anything against this country. I also love the country of Israel and would not want to see that country destroyed. I just think they allowed greed to get the better of them after 1967 when they occupied and began to build settlements in the West Bank and Gaza. I would never participate in terrorism and your calling me a terrorist is inappropriate.
