31. Finland PM on Lebanon
Muriel ,   West Palm Beach, USA   (08.10.06)
I agree with Eric of NY. Who are the Hizbollah anyway? Aren't they Lebanese? They are not some strange new race. They are from Lebanon, and as terrorists, they are supported by other Lebanese! So let them stop trying to destroy Israel, and Israel will leave them alone.
32. Finnish FM?
McKenna ,   Chicago, USA   (08.11.06)
What are his thoughts on Darfour? And if he doesn't have any thoughts on that situation, why not? What is Finland's great interest in Lebanon? Is it where he vacations?
33. To the people of Finland
sg ,   USA   (08.11.06)
I see comments here defending the history and people of Finland, one asserts their support for Israel. Thank you for this, I hope you will understand that we are angry from everybody trying to wipe us out. We need REAL help, not just endless criticism. Millions of Jewish people have died just in the last few decades and we are constantly being threatened with extermination. So, please excuse us if we are angry. Best wishes to all, and please, if you're in Finland, please tell your president to give us a hand already. Nobody wants to hurt the innocent Lebanese or damage their beautiful country. But look for a moment at what is happening to Israel. Anybody with a heart will weep, and try to offer REAL help against our endless enemies in our constant war for survival. Thank you and shalom.
34. RE: "Europeans never believed ..."
David ,   Prague, Czech Rep.   (08.11.06)
Finnish PM had change to recognize that it is not true. Many Europeans disagree with Finish position and the EU final position was far away from Tuomioja kidding. European (e.g. EU) perception about Israel and European (e.g. EU)understanding of this conflick is changing, unfortunatelly slow, but changing.
35. Anserws: Finland to Israel
Matias ,   Finland   (08.11.06)
First I would like to answer some of the unjustified and hateful criticism written by a few readers of Ynet: 1. " Finland surrenderd its land without a fight to Russia " Lawrence, you couldn't be more wrong. During the Winter War of 1939 - 1940 The young Finnish nation of some three million residents defend herself against the invasion of the Soviet Union, of 200 million people at the time. We managed for 105 days to fend of the soviets until they're overwhelming technological and numerical advantage broke the back fo the Finnish Defence Forces and we had to sue for a bitter peace where the province of Karelia was lost. -------------------------------------------------- 13. " Jews not allowed into Finland until 1896 " This poster has conveniently forgotten that Finland didn't exist yet as an idependent state but was under the rule of the Russian Empire, which notorious for its anti-semitic policies did not grant full rights to Jews in Finland, or in Russia proper to its Jewish citizens during said time. The Finnish people also sufferd greatly under Russian rule. -------------------------------------------------- 25. " Didn't the Finns fight alongside the Nazis in WWII " A simple answer would be yes, but also against them and because of them, we had to fight at all. In 1939 after the Invasion of Poland, Germany and the Soviet Union agreed on the division of Eastern Europe and finland fell into the soviet sphere. They tried to invade ( see answer #1) but failed to occupy and annex Finland. Thus we were placed into the anti-Soviet camp, and upon the immenent German Invasion had no other choiche then to fight alongside Germany, and in all fairness, the unavoidable war started with a Soviet bombing. As everyone knows the Soviets eventually beat the Germans, but didn't manage to occupy Finland. We did sue for peace again, but this time we also had to kick the Germans troops out of our country, and they thanked us by burning Lappland, the Northern half of Finland. So that is our relation with Nazi Germany, not a voluntary one and certainly NOT something we see as worthy of any merit. -------------------------------------------------- Regarding Mr. Tuomioja's comments: First, I would like to establish to everyone that Mr. Tuomioja is not a well liked politician in FInland, nor can his views be said to reflect those of the general population. He is, even in political circles considerd to be an indecisive and undiplomatic, with a tendency to pessimistic arrogance. His alligment is left wing, even within his ruling Social Democratic party - he is what you would in Israel call a Smolani. On a personal note I would like to express my deep regret for the loss of life that has been taken place in Northern Israel and Lebanon, but still remebering alltough this conflict comes with a very high cost to the Israeli civilians, the IDF and innocent Lebanese caught in the crossfire, it is still something that must be done. Israel does not have to accept a militia on its northern borderd that is bent on its distruction and imposing death and suffering amongst its civilians. While the comments made by some posters on their talkbacks on my country feel offensive and ignorant, I would never draw any conclusions based on them on Israel, her people or the Jewish people in general, and I sincerly hope you can do the same and not judge my country and the Finnish people based on the comments of one politician. Despite all, still in your support Israel, and stay safe. Matias

You are a decent soul. Thank you for taking the time to write all this out. We (I speak as a Jew, though I was also an Israeli citizen as a child and still have most of my family there) are so used to people coming here and spewing hatred at us, at a time when we are besieged. It puts our backs up and we rally together. Thanks for your decency, understanding and support.
37. Finland
Ricky Bobby ,   Talladega, USA   (08.11.06)
It is common knowledge that only two things come from Finland: Steers and Queers. I don't see any horns on this stupid piece of sh#t. This guy must have learned his surrender monkey tactics while living in France. Why would the EU let Finland in anyway? Is it because of their reindeer? Santa has enough reindeer. What to hell else has Finland done for the world?????
38. Stong Mandate
Ricky Bobby ,   Talladega, USA   (08.11.06)
I have a whole roll of UN mandates next to my toilet if Finland needs one or two or three or.... I buy them at at big warehouse store. They sell UN mandates and UN Resolutions in cases of 48, double ply. They are not my favorite but they work in a pinch. At least they flush good!

Sophie, were you alive during the Blitzkrieg? Were you alive when the Brits were bombed by Hitler and his Nazis. Had it not been for a few brave souls battling facism over Brittain you would not be here. Jews were almost driven to extinction at the same time by facist Germany and it's ilk. The facists are back. They want total world domination just like Hitler did. That may be why they are a little spirited and seem "infantlie" to you. Reality is that they are quite calm about all of this. Those of us in the US are probably a little more infantile and venomous because we rember history too. The last time facism like this reared its ugly head, America gave over a million of its young men to stop it. Maybe the person you look at in the mirror needs to grow up a bit?
41. #40 -- well put
BS meter ,   Canada   (08.11.06)
and I like the two-ply UN resolutions, too. Enough of them that they could make it a cushy three-ply, no problem. People in certain countries could even start eating with their left hands again with this help from the UN......
42. #15.... Sophie

Sophie, does it occur to you that people might be feeling a little besieged at hte moment?
43. Finland to Israel
Judson ,   West Monroe, USA   (08.11.06)
Finland fought the Jewish Communist bolsheviks from Russia because they had been invaded just as Lebanon has been invade by Israel. The Israelis want to extend a Greater Israel to the Litani river inside present-day Lebanon for the fresh water it will provide for their northern areas. Soldiers are not kidnapped, they are captured and when has anyone ever heard of the US starting a major conflict over the capture of a couple of soldiers who ventured too close to the enemy abd giot nabbed. Besides if the rockets wre the main problem now, then why is Israel destroying the infrastructure of Lebanon all the way to the Syrian border and beyond, while leaving the rocket sites undisturbed ... Israel only wants to destroy Lebanon and drive its residents out so that Jews can invade and extend the borders of Israel.
44. Dear Matias # 35
Ronen ,   Tel Aviv   (08.11.06)
Thank you for your support! You are right. Some of the postings here ARE ingorant and offensive. But please don't let a few Ynet posters shape your opinion about Israelis just as I don't let your politiocians shape my opinion about Finnish people. Peace brother!
45. Finnish F.M is right, of course
Dougal ,   Sydney Australia   (08.11.06)
What is there to argue with? Israel could have negotiated a prisoner exchange, as Hezbollah wanted, and 1000 Lebanese civilians, 1/3 of them children, and 90 Israelis, would still be alive. Where is your logic and humanity? Hezbollah waited for 2 days of intensive Israeli bombing, with over 100 civilians killed, before responsing with rockets. And you want the world to believe you're acting in "self defence"? "By their deeds you shall know them".
46. just a note

Israelis get a good the-Magen-David's-sevenfold-meaning (=Lie Rob Destroy Vandalize Brutalize Kill Murder) education. No wonder its results permeate everything they say and do.

Retaliation for what? The "kidnapping" of two soldiers? Hasn't Israel "kidnapped" (sorry, when they do it, it's called arrest) thousands of Lebanese and Palestinians without any recourse to trial. Yes I know some of those people are tried but I wonder what percentage are tried and what percentage are left to rot in dungeons or better yet tortured (a nail in your testes anyone?). Weren't these "kidnapped" soldiers on Lebanese soil when they were "kidnapped"? Didn't Israel illegally invade Syrian territory when their F-16 (bought with US tax dollars) flew over the Prime minister's palace? Yes I know there are bad people on both sides. Fanatical Muslims are a danger to the civilized world; however, I don't hear too much about fanatical Jews. I wonder why that is? Perhaps that would be anti-semetic.

nABEEL ,   us   (08.11.06)
Why would any country send troops to Lebanon when they can't be sure that Israel will not bomb them? Would the US have sent Blackhawks into Somalia if they suspected that they would be ambushed in that manner? Israel has shown that any moving object in Lebanon is a target to them so why would any country send troops in? Even humanitarian convoys don't want to go in for that reason.

You, sir, are completely without a knowledge of history. You know nothing of the Finnish winter war, or the Finnish continuation war, where Finland fought bravely and largely unaided against the Soviet army. In talking out of tur n, you show no respect to the thouswands of Finnish fallen. Shame on you.

NilsG ,   Helsingborg, Sweden   (08.11.06)
You are wrong. Finland was involved in a brutal war with the Soviet union, and at one time had as its only formal ally the Nazis. What would you have them do? Be annihilated by Stalin, which is what happened to their Baltic neighbours? You could as well say that UK and USA sided with the Soviet union. Your knowledge of history leaves much to be desired.

Hey Nabeel where do you live? You sound sympathetic to Hizbullah and the FBI wants to talk to you. If you are so worried about your friends in Lebanon, why don't you live there instead of a country that you take issue with--this country supports the other side. By a hugh majority and ae unsympathetic to you.

I would like to invite you to join those folks with whom you are so sympathetic, go to Israel and visit the old city in Jerusalem and see if your friends feel the same way about you. Don't turn your back tho.
55. History of Finland
P Juntunen ,   JKL Finland   (08.11.06)
Finland was never in war with England otherwise than formally. It fight against Soviet Union and was in the same side as Nazi Germany, because nazis were only on, who wanted help Finland against communist USSR. Before any fighting between Germany and USSR, Soviet Union tried to conquer whole Finland in Winter War 1939-40. England and France said that they would help, but did nothing. So, in 1941 Finland atacked to USSR with Germany, because our leaders believed that it was only option. In II WW 100 000 finns died. Finland was the ONLY ally of Nazi-Germany, who didn't gave not single one jewish to the hands of nazis.
56. NO MILITARY SOLUTION = ENDLESS WAR AGAINST ISRAEL
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.11.06)
Israel must defeat the enemy! Israel must destroy Hizbullah's rockets, missiles and infrastructure.
57. GLOBAL JIHAD: CONDEMNING ISRAEL Instead of the TERRORISTS
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.11.06)
Past experience prove Islamists lie about the number of civilians wounded and killed. Less Israelis get killed than Lebanese because Israel does not use Israeli civilians as human shields. Israel protects her citizens: over one million Israelis now live in bomb shelters - over 3,000 rockets have hit Israel. Hizbullah, Hamas, PLO/PA et al, always target Jewish civilians. Israel warned Qana residents repeatedly by leaflets and radio to leave the area - 150 rockets were launched from Qana - these rockets killed 18 Israelis and wounded hundreds. Hamas and Hizbullah fight the proxy war against Israel for Syria and Iran. United with Lebanon whose Prime Minister Siniora on July 30, 2006, publicly thanked terrorist Hizbullah for its sacrifices in the war against Israel. YNETNEWS (07.30.06) Lebanese PM thanks Hizbullah for 'sacrifices' http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3283763,00.html Iran's proxy, Hizbullah, ruthlessly uses Lebanese civilians as human shields to protect rocket launching teams - setting up rockets and other weapons in basements of apartment blocks, schools and mosques. Iran's proxy, Hizbullah despicably shoots from inside mosques, hospitals and schools in south Lebanon. Images show Iran's proxy, Hizbullah using high-density residential areas to launch rockets: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,,19955774-5007220,00.html Global jihadists - Iran's proxy, Hizbullah's evil goal is the murder of every Jew. On October 22, 2002, Nasrallah told Lebanon's Daily Star: "If they (Jews) all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide." The purpose of the PLO as enshrined in its charter is the destruction of Israel. PLO terrorists were wickedly implanted into Israel through Oslo peace accords. Suicide human bomb killers continuously attempt to infiltrate Israel's cities. The Hamas Charter states: "Israel, by virtue of its being Jewish and of having a Jewish population, defies Islam and the Muslims... Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it..." Murderous Iran states repeatedly they intend to wipe Israel off the map - Iran is dangerously close in achieving nuclear capability to execute their genocidal goal. Hamas and Hizbullah proxies fight Iran's war against Israel and all humanity - a global jihad with its ultimate goal the entire world subjugated under Islamic rulers - Israel's fight for freedom and human rights is a fight for freedom and human rights for all nations.

please do not get upset, this is how hatred it spread thru words that are taken out of context and meant or even said in the heat of the moment. Maybe your Prime Minister should have been a little more selective in his words and so too some of the people on this talkback. Dont get urself riled up over it, it is not worth it...there is anger, and hatred everywhere, have a nice peaceful weekend and enjoy ur day.
