Warm reaction to UN resolution across world     News Agencies
1. Warmth from the world?
Why should we suddenly care what China thinks of us? Or France? Or New Zealand, for that matter? None of them would care if every Jew were thrown into the sea. This is repulsive. I don't care if they love us; I want them to fear us. Annan and Solana are every Jew's enemy. I don't believe they should have any say in how Israel defends herself. Israel is committing suicide. Further, why is this talked about as an end of war between "Israel and Hizbollah" instead of between Israel and a vicious terrorist organization? Or is Hizbollah now the accepted government of Lebanon? Would the US enter into an agreement with al Qaeda? Israel is a sovereign state, Hizbollah is not. It's a world gone mad and once again the Jews will be the first to suffer for it.
Leah Chana ,   Israel   (08.12.06)
2. To Leah
I think we will suffer this time the results of our own failure only. It is not the problem of the UN, it is our fault only. This is a lesson for all of us, how we should react in the future, excessive use of weapons will not frighten anybody, especially HIZBULLAH.
David ,   Israel   (08.12.06)
3. Re. Warmth from the World
Why should you care what the rest of the world thinks of Israel? Hmm, let's see. Because (as Israeli government spokesmen keep saying) you are a Western democracy, not one of the violent dictatorships in the region that you want to distinguish yourself from? Because you have at least some humanitarian values? Israel seems to want to be bracketed with the 'civilised' states of the world, and yet not to be held to the same standards of behaviour. You can't have it both ways. Here's the rub, Israel: if you don't want to be the target of anti-Semitism and if you want any peace and security in the future, you aren't going to get it by blasting your neighbours to oblivion in the long term. If the world in general had some cause to think that you don't think Jewish lives are worth more than Arabs, then perhaps some of the criticism that the State of Israel has come in for would be less valid. Unfortunately Israel's recent actions have given only more ammunition to those who don't want it to exist. It has lost the propaganda war, and doesn't seem to have met its military objectives either, for all the men and hardware you have poured into Lebanon. Sure, people will always hate Israel for reasons of racism and anti-semitism. But I am sick of the hysterical, predictable response of anti-semitism whenever one of your allies (and yes, Europe is your ally and has bitten it's lip for a long time) dares to question your right to act exactly as you choose. As for the second point about Hizbollah....why does Hizbollah exist? Yes, that's right, Hizbollah exists because of your country's aggression against a sovereign state 30 years ago. It didn't just come out of nowhere. And when your nation is bombing Beruit airport, power stations, fleeing refugees, you wonder why Lebanese support Hizbollah when they resist you? Wake up and smell the coffee Israel. If you want to be feared and hated rather than respected, fine. Don't be surprised if you never see an end to terrorism as a result. Give the Palestinians a viable state and stop treating them like animals. Return the land you took by force from your neighbours. Then you might have a chance for peace in the long term.

4. #1 - absolutely right!

5. Olmert had a mental
Withdrawal from Lebanon who now fire rockets into Israel. Withdrawal from Gaza who now fire rockets into Israel. In the middle of this war Olmert still talks of unilaterally withdrawing from the West Bank. Only someone in the middle of a mental breakdown could say this!!
lemar ,   uk   (08.12.06)
6. A better Solution
I have a better [than the UN resolution, which means nothing) to the world's terrorist problems: (1) Nuke the mountains of Lebonon where Hezbollah hides (2) Nuke the mountains of Afghanistan to kill the Taliban and OBL (3) Assissinate Arma-nut-case President of Iran. There, all terrorist problems solved. We live in peace now.
The Professor ,   USA   (08.12.06)
7. so much waffle - ceasefire maybe in 1-2 months
UNIFIL are not ready and even when they are .. UNIFIL to Hezbullah – ‘OK chaps time to move north’. Hezbullah to UNIFIL and Israel ‘no problem’. Sure :-) Where will the UNIFIL troops sleep and eat and how will they get food and other supplies ? Israel will be involved in fighting for at least another month or two. How would the expanded UNIFIL force take over with Hezbullah still firmly entrenched in many areas between Israel and the Litani ? Israel will only be able to hand over the area after it has purged Hezbullah which won't happen by Sunday.

8. Warm reaction
If this is the World's reaction, then be assured that Israel has been well & truely "SHAFTED"
Dr John Maxwell ,   Rechovot Israel   (08.12.06)
9. #1 Very right,Leah!
Who started these all was Hisbollah-A TERRORIST GROUP-,therefore how is that possible lebanon to sign in hesbollah behalf? The conclusion is that they are colluded. If they are colluded, how can regular ,"peaceful", contries make a deal with a terrorist country? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!
keren ,   sao paulo   (08.12.06)
10. UNIFIL
OH no let UNIFIL protect Israil like they did before, watching Hezbullah get ready to fire rockets > It is time to stop worring what the world thinks and get rid of Hezbullah for good.Let sit back and wait till Iran has nukes then see where the UN is then(running)

Ok You Said it professor, Yawnnn any thing Else, Do You know where washington DC is ?? lol, cuz the recent study show 70% of americans dont knwo where Washington DC is. lol
Zuben ,   USA   (08.12.06)
12. are you kidding?
All of the people suggesting "nuking" and violence and continued waged war, how's about you take up positions on the front line? As Rowland of UK pointed out, in order to play in the world arena, you have to go according to the world rules. Otherwise you are branded a rogue or exile state (Iraq, Iran, N. Korea)....do all of you enjoy watching the body count rise? How in the heck can you advocate continued violence? I'm not saying sit back and get hit by rockets (nor does the resolution stipulate this) but like it or not, world opinion DOES matter.
Cicily ,   tel aviv, israel   (08.12.06)
13. RE: Rowland's response
Are you actually serious? It is the muslim countries that treat Palestinians like animals. They are the ones that manipulated them in 1948. It was the Muslim Clerics that urged them to leave with slanderous lies about the Jews and promises that they would kill the Jews so that the Palestinian people can return to Israel. It is the the surrounding countries that denied the Palestinians citizenship conveniently creating a group of people with no hope for any sort of viable life-a perfect pool of misery that they could use for their own evil purposes, and while this was happening Jewish people were being FORCED out of countries like Iraq, Iran and Syria. There has been a continuous Jewish presence in Israel for over 2000 years-something that people like yourself seem to either forget or just not care about. The Majority of the land that is being fought over now is only the land that Israel gained evertime they were attacked. You say that Israel caused groups such as Hizbollah to rise up due to Israeli agression? I suppose you are saying that years of oraganized attacks by Muslim countries, suicide bombings, and breaking of UN resoultions and the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers has nothing to do with Israel's reaction in Lebanaon?Groups such as Hizbollah have no desire for peace. They want a graveyard of Jewish people they can lay their foundation of hatred and oppresion over. You are absolutley ridiculous and you are a liar if yoiu try to claim that you are not an anti-semite. Get a clue.

14. re: Warmth from the world 2
For 1, Israel already has respect and the only way to get respect is to protect your people. 2. As far as peace goes, The jewish state is a peacefull country with peace loveing people , Israel will get peace in full when its enemies are destroyed or turned into sand and no less.

New Zealand has troops? I wonder what they armed with, sheep shit grenades?

16. Response to Rowland in London
Long rant there, totally ignoring the fact that Hezbollah came into Israel and kidnapped two of our boys. They then began launching katyushas into Israel in a blatant attempt to murder Israeli civilians. Israel didn't start this war and Israel doesn't TARGET civilians the way Hezbollah, the TERRORIST ORGANIZATION, does. As for the rest, you don't seem to have too firm a grip on history, or on reality. You think Israel will never see the end to terrorism? I laugh in your face. What is going on in London? That's not terrorism? And you've only just begun ... The Palestinians have a state. That's their problem I don't treat them like animals or otherwise. Why should Israel "return:" land? Why don’t the English, those colonizers, return all the land they stole? Oh that's right, I forgot, only Israel is expected to return land that she won in wars SHE DIDN'T START. Europe is not my ally, Europe is my sworn enemy. Take a walk through Yad Vashem sometime, and then tell me that the British are my ally. Chutzpah.

19. Nuke em and suffer the aftermath
Nice of you Professor sitting on your armchair and telling Israelis how to behave. No doubt you are not a Jew but an Evangelist American Jew hater (like all the American right-wing) and hope Israel self-destructs. Nuking Lebanon would mean that Israel would suffer from radioactive fallout. But what do you care? It would eliminate Jews land make you happy.
Mikulas ,   Bratislava, Slovakia   (08.12.06)
20. Sympathy for Israelis
If I were an Israeli I would be insulted by all the UN pontificating -they talk and act as though Israel went to war with a nation state out of some expansionist desire. Instead it was a provocation by a terrorist organization to which they were forced to retaliate (not sure the EU regard Hizbollah as terrorists though). Sorry but I think this is going to be yet another UN non-resolution
Laura ,   London   (08.12.06)

22. UN resolution
Let's take - we have a lot to do. As a Kadima Voter - call an immediate knesset session and get rid of Olmert, Peretz and in this context also of Halutz.Since it's creation, this state has not experienced such a bunch of incompetent amateurs. I do don't care about the opinon of our enemies, or Chaimberlain's successors; but our we have not only needlessly killed our own soldiers, we have ruthlessly and stupidly jeopardized our friends' support. Let's get Bibi back on the helm, give the army back it's role and strenght, built a solid defense - the next war is inevitable, and we do not wish to sit as lame, couwerdly ducks again.. Gil Pollanz

23. Its not going to work. Hezbullah does not understand.

24. #3 Roland
Israel is often held to a higher level, not a lower level, and is often blamed for the actions of its attackers. It often loses the propaganda war because the press is very anti-Israel. Israel doesn't aggress against soverign states; it's the opposite. It defends itself. It is the only state that took over its attackers land and later gave it back (Sinai in Egypt, and Gaza.). It pulled out of Lebanon, which it was in after being attacked. And it elected a government based on plans to pull out of West Bank following a pull out of Gaza. Although it claims those lands as part of Israel, it has been willing to give them up for peace. It is the Palistinians who act like animals. They elected a government based on written plans to destroy Israel. I used to think just like you, that peace would come when Israel pulls out, but am now convinced that when it gives up land it only gets its cities and towns bombed as a result (Lebanon, Gaza), because it is a sign of weakness and retreat in the eyes of aggressive animals, who then go in for the kill. Unfortunately, the problem is that the surrounding countries believe Israel should be destroyed because it is a Jewish country, not because of land disputes. I believe this is why some writers talk about fear and strength as a deterrant. It just wants to exist in peace.

26. Cease Fire
will last about 12 hours. There is no way that Hizbullah is going to stand down. They actually think that they have won. They will not stop until they have taken total control of Lebanon. Nasrallah is a hero now. He will have no problem getting Senora to step aside. The Hizbullah will be a government and not just a terrorist organization. All the surrender monkeys of the world will let him do it.

27. Another solutions: Mikulas in response to The Professor
Actually, I have lived in 3 different countries on three different continents. I have also lived in 6 different states within the U.S., so , yes, I think I have been around at least a tad and yes I certainly do know where D.C. is. My point is that we cannot negotiate with these guys. We just have to kill them. There is no other way. Have you not learned anything from history? Israel gives up land, the terrorists just move their rockets and bullets and scuicide bombers closer to Israel. OK , so if you don't want to go the Nuke 'em, route, how about this: Instead of "land for peace", Israel should consider "Land for Terror". In other words, for ever Israeli that is killed or wounded by a terrorist (a.k.a. islamafacist), Israel should confiscate 100 acres of land from an Arab country. See then how fast the scuicide bombers continue doing what they are doing. Bottom line, history has proven time and time again that carots do not work. Sticks (big sticks) or the only cure. The terrorists are taught such eveil from the time they are born.....they cannot be negotiated with. If we think we can negotiate, we have learned absolutely nothing. The only good terrorist is a dead terrorist. And furhter more, about the "civilians" being killed? What is a "civilian"? Someone who elects Hezbollah to it's parliment? Someone who allows Hezbollah to hide it's rockets in his apartment building? Get real. If we pussy-footed around in WWII like the UN and the rest of you left-ists want Israel and the U.S. to do now, France would be a part of Germany, the UK would have been bombed to oblivian, and Japan would still be raping the Koreans and the Chinese. You think the "good guys" would have won WWII if CNN and Reuters had TV then? Geez. Sincerely, The Professor (all knowing and wise)

29. RE: Rowland
Whoa whoa, hold on there slick. We aren't all as knowledgeable on the subject of Arab-Israeli conflicts as you are. Your advice is that Israel should resolve this war by surrendering its land and acquiescing to demands? Hmm, that would be easy. All wars should be fought with the intention of surrendering. That would even eliminate the need for borders. I simply cannot allow you to waste your understanding of the conflict in the Middle East on this website. Go, go! For the good of the world!
R.S.   (08.12.06)
30. #3 - Rowland
According to Rowland, it is OK for Hezbollah to hit Israel with rockets for years, and continually abduct Israelis for ransom, after Israel widdrew from Lebanon. And while Israel is held *(understandably) to international standards, the Rowlands of the world do not hold Hezbollah to international standards. With regards to anti-semitism, Mr. Rowland has no right to make any claims what is and what is not as he has never been the target nor the victim. He sits back in London reading The Guardian and watching the BBC and therefore becomes an expert. With people like Mr. Rowland in the world, Israel must stay strong (as far as an open undeterred society as well as miliarily). It is because of the Rowlands of the world that a Jewish State is necessary as we certainly can not trust people like this to protect Jewish minorities. I am sure that Mr. Rowland voted for the real anti-semites Livingstone and Galloway. And Mr. Rowland, don't you dare to tell me they are not. You know nothing about this topic and therefore are no authority!
Warren ,   USA   (08.12.06)
