I agree that Israel is better off now but the whole point is that Israel could and should have been much better off provided the right leadership. Olmert et ale are on a learning curve i.e. trying and erring until they see the light. THE IS THE BASIC 101 IDF DOCTRINE. 2) A war is to destroy the hostile forces not to conquer land (except for Eretz Yisrael of course). 3) Always win a war before declaring a cease-fire. Otherwise put: IT IS GROUND OPERATIONS FIRST THEN DIPLOMACY. 4) Return on Investment to protect IDF armor and infantry is always attractive: DEPLOY THE ALREADY DEVELOPED ANTI-MISSILES SYSTEM. The cost of this system is peanuts compared to the cost of the destroyed armor, let alone the lives which could have been saved. 5) Return on investment to protect your civilian infrastructure is as well attractive: THE ANTI MISSILE SYSTEM IS TECHNOLOGICALLY READY, ALL WE NEED NOW IS THE US 25 MILLIONS TO BUILD THE FIRST UNIT (FOR INFO, A UNIT PROTECTS A 40KM HEMISPHERE) THIS IS PEANUTS COMPARED TO THE ECONOMIC COST OF THIS WAR. ON THE TOP OF THAT, IT GIVES LESS REASONS FOR ARABS TO REJOY. 6) NEVER EVER ASPIRE TO PEACE WITH ARABS BE THEM SHIITES, SUNNITES OR WHATEVER. WHY? Well done Israeli government and well done IDF. You have really looked after us and acted with great responsibility with your measured response - we are very fortunate to have such a leadership. In truth I think the top layer of the IDF could do with a little fresh blood. We have learned a great deal of new intelligence from this war, certainly some of it should have been known beforehand! Maybe we have been concentrating our resources in the wrong places. In any event our new prime minister is coping well under fire in Gaza and Lebanon. Not perfect, but on balance I think that this government will get the job finished. In particular, they have resisted over reacting to a very dangerous situation. Jolly Jack Nasrallah has had a good pasting and no doubt we will be hearing in the near future just what kind of price Hizbollah has paid in dead terrorists and smashed infrastructure. This is all a wake-up call to the main event - dealing with the Iranian leadership. Yes we have paid a terrible price - b'zrat hashem it will not be in vain.

Peres Olmert and Peretz has to resign. They held back the military and could have one this war at the very beginning with a push to the Litani. The goverment response was kinda like anzio where the main general was afraid of casulties and the result the Germans rushed into the void and a bloody battlle took place. After a month of fights, it seems that Hezbollah was to become short on resources. The international pressure for stop of the war, left no room for Hezbollah to reject a UN resolution that the whole globe had approved on.
