61. Is Assad a Moslem
Chris ,   Milwaukee, WI   (08.15.06)
I am a bit confused by Islam. Is Assad a Moslem or is he a Shit like Nasrallah?
62. #14 Wish you comfort, but feel the same
Jefanna ,   Chesapeake, VA   (08.15.06)
I feel the same being a US citizen. My husband is an officer in the US military and it feels like we are losing the Public Relations war. I do not know how you defend against someone who is willing to teach their children that it is honorable to blow themselves and others up. This level of hate is uncomprehendable to me. Terrorism is the new war and it is frightening. As you said, there were signs, we just ignored them hoping that by reaching out something would come of it. Look at Iraq, they are blowing each other up daily. It is a culture of death, and it is celebrated. Not only that, somehow they manage to make themselves the 'victim'. I wanted peace for them, but it is something they have to want for themselves.
63. #26 Very funny!
Jefanna ,   USA   (08.15.06)
I am not in the peace at any cost camp, buy you have humor! Very funny, really. It is good to have humor and keep your humanity. It is what civilized people do.
64. he doesn't just look like hitler...
max ,   us   (08.15.06)
65. now Assa talks big
mikefromusa ,   usa   (08.15.06)
Didn't hear much from him before the cease fire. Now he wants to fight. He should go to Ahmadijenad's blog and vote for war or something.
66. Nobody won?!?!?!
Truth   (08.15.06)
How can anybody claim that nobody has won?! Israel was unable to get the soldiers back, was unable to stop the firing of rockets, was unable to disarm the Hizb, and the Hizb is more popular than ever... Yes, great destruction was done to Lebanon, but what do you expect of war?! This all can be rebuilt, but the IDF's dignity can't. When the objectives of war is not met, this means a GREAT DEFEAT. So, you better get used to it and accept defeat like your leaders did. Hopefully, you've lost some of your arrogance and learned not to mess with the Lebanese again. I suggest you start making some concessions to your neighbors if you want to live in peace. A treaty on behalf of all Arab countries will be offered to you next month, so don't let that chance pass you by.
67. Democracy
Whatever   (08.15.06)
The fact that you censor some messages just because they don't share your opinion, reveals what kind of a "democracy" you are!! You are no better than a dictatorship! I'll post my messages on haaretz.com
68. Here kitty, kitty
Big Snap ,   USA   (08.15.06)
Cheese has been set in the trap. Here Syria, Syria, here Iran, Iran.
69. #30 sam the man
david   (08.15.06)
you said it Bro.. he does look stupid in a suit. I am here in all wars since 67. You have to feel sorry for these people who are locked in to their fantasy world. D
70. "Bashad"
Joel NYC   (08.15.06)
during G8 summit, President Bush refrered to Bashir Assad as "Bashad." He is such a loser, so inconsequential, Bush didn't even know his name! The only reason that "Bashad" is still breathing is the alternative is worse. A WEAK leader that controls the Syrian territory is better than an Islamic republic - or no government at all. So for now, "Bashad" is safe...but still a pathetic and weak loser, ruler of a pathetic and weak country.
71. #14, Israeli
Sheikh yer Bu'Tay ,   Dar al-Harb   (08.15.06)
I watched all of your web-postings. They had a very somber effect for me. I don't know what to do either. Israel wins the military battles but loses the PR wars. Keep winning the battles and start winning the psychological war. Muslims are very good at that, always have been. Nazi-ralla has said that Israel's weakness is it can't stand the loss of life (atrition). Maybe Israel's leaders can turn the tables on him. Make Hezbullah lose more soldiers than it can afford to replace. One thing is certain, now you know that any "land for peace" deal is just a ruse. An outright lie. So, don't be fooled again. Don't waste time on negotiations that are all talk and no action. The state of Israel will exist only as long as Israelis are strong enough to hang on to it.
72. Assad: We’ll liberate Golan Heights
Vicki ,   kadima - Israel   (08.15.06)
The way I am feeling just now, I just want Assad to attack us. This time, no restraint, we are fighting a country, a proper war, no terrorists hiding behind women and childrens skirts, a proper all out war. Then and only then will we come into our own. We have walked away from a bunch of terrorists with our tails between our legs, because we try as hard as we can not to injure civillians. Give us a go at fighting a proper army then we will see whose tail is between their legs. All's fair in love and War. I just hope this small narrow eyed ugly monster starts. The way the most of us Israelis are feeling we will completely crush them just to vent our frustration at the way this Hizbullah fiasco has ended. BRING IT ON ASS-AD.
73. 43 You are from Malaysia
freedom ,   canada   (08.15.06)
Can you not be put in jail in Malaysia for converting from Islam to another religion. Yet the constitution in Malaysia degrees freedom of religion. Dont you have enough problems in your country... Just a thought...
74. 46. No Assad is a terrorist enabler.
freedom ,   canada   (08.15.06)
I dont think he really bothers Israelis... Syria and Iran are next on the list for reform and freedom. There is no occupied land, where do you get that from.. When you lose a war that you started, and you lose land you dont get it back. Maybe you can keep on trying to go back to a different date so that all the previous syrian aggression can be redeemed with golan heights being part of syria.. Golan heights is Israels, and Im not jewish. Just a realist., end of the story...
75. # 61 assad not is from a minority side of islam
wael ,   palestine & kuwait   (08.15.06)
my freind in islam there is SUNAH AND shiete thos are majorities ok , but there are some minorties like droz and alawiyeen . bAshar is from alawiyeen and those people are not true muslims , thats why he love his government and HISB al BAath like saddam hussain more than islam . and he never mension islam in his speach , but we still recognise him as a muslim ..but way different between sadia muslims .
76. #35 - you should learn some history
(08.15.06)

77. BRiNG IT ON! Your regime would topple in a week, you freak
(08.15.06)
78. to # 14 this is a sick people and....
karl ,   switzerland   (08.15.06)
...nothing else can be expected from such terror organisations....they have full controll over the fate of the palestinians...it's a great illusion to believe that israel ever will have peace with such terror gangs holding power...i hope israel preapares their defensive and offensive capabilities with the most sophisticated technologies and ground forces and keeps adjourned war plan's ready for the prevailing situation....including the wereabouts of irresponsible leaders of terror...
79. The bright side of #14
Shai ,   Israel   (08.15.06)
People like you voted for Labor and Kadima, which brought us the timid Olmert government that is "tired of winning". The good news is that people like you are not few in number. Those of us who didn't vote for Olmert expected this would occur, so our disappointment is of a different nature. You had your hopes crushed, and we had our suspicions confirmed. Because you are not like the pollyanish radical left, you will vote for another party next time, because Assad's words show it won't be long in coming before we need to defend ourselves again. We all now know that Olmert and Peretz are more appropriate for nations who deliberate on who makes the best apple pie than one that is at war. So now is the time to unseat Kadima and Labor, and put in a government that believes in its People and its G-d. There is no other solution that has the potential to avoid the holocaust you suspect will occur. Our first obligation, before we make peace with Palestinians or Arabs in general, is to be at peace with ourselves and with G-d. You especially know how hard we tried to find a peaceful solution but it's not possible. Now is the time to look inward and rebuild, girding ourselves for the battle that will soon come. But we can't have Olmert and his like as our leaders when that happens. So take the strength you invested in peace and invest it in the politics of change and internal unity. That is what "you can do".
80. To 9
Shai ,   Israel   (08.15.06)
Why hasn't the US attacked Syria, given its tangible support for the insurrection against Iraqi democracy and US troops stationed there? This isn't just Israel's fight.
81. #12
lee ,   israel   (08.15.06)
this agression that was bestowed upon his country was brought upon by the one and only El ASSad. He is a parrot in a jungle, among many parrots, one says one thing and they follow along.standing up for his country? his people would eat him up alive if he said other wise. The other arab leaders that you were talking about happen to be the ones with balls, and it is because of them that the world believed that perhaps there would and could be peace within the region. What a shame that these arabs dont catch on, and try to make this world a better place to live in. It is easy to destroy things, but to build and prosper takes work, they are not used to working. I hope for all of us things change for the good.Arabs should take care of there people(pal.),after all the world contributes a lot of money in return fuel(oil) to the arab nations, take care of them build them(pal) to be a good democratic society.Instead of spending money to liberate a man(terrorist) that wants just power and land(Lebanon).Just like Hitler? think about it.God bless you!!!!! you will need it/
82. We’ll liberate Golan Heights
Daniel ,   Lod, Israel   (08.15.06)
Most confused head of a state: Mr. President Bashar Assad of Syria.
83. they intervene only when Israel is in pain
Daniel ,   Lod, Israel   (08.15.06)
Who will back up fanatics like you? Your own people backed you? Except you your friend Iran and some more misguided souls.
84. 76 . I make no comment on wikipedia.
freedom ,   canada   (08.15.06)
But again I say, research your facts from more than one source. Maybe youll actually learn something...
85. 76. take note article in dispute...
freedom ,   canada   (08.15.06)
Like I said, get your research from as many sources as you can. End of the message....
86. liberate
leah   (08.15.06)
yourself and your people don't worry about the golan, we got it covered!
87. Bla Bla Bla Bla ,,, Hariri on my mind ... bla bla bla
Fedup ,   North, way north   (08.15.06)
While the war was going on, Assad said that the world needs to look into the clear indications of Israel's involvement in the assasination of Rafik Hariri. Now why would he say that? I leave that to psychologists to answer, but the fact remains that he was counting on "Hass the waskilly wat" to divert the world's attention away from the crime of the century that has his name written all over it. You see, very soon he'll be summoned to the International Court for the murder of Rafik Hariri. Let's hear him boast then.
88. What meds are these people taking?
Daniel ,   Washington   (08.15.06)
Ok maybe I'm confused, but to me, Israel did not lose the war. They did not achieve the total destruction of Hizbullah, but they certainly accomplished much of what they set out to do. What was Nasarrallah's objective? If it was the bombing of Southern Lebanon then he accomplished his goal. If it was the destruction of much of his missles and an international force demanding he give up his weapons then yes he won. Some how that's not the impression I got of what he wanted. I thought he wanted Israel destroyed...yet it is there stronger than ever. As to Syria and the Heights...who has them now? Is there a threat that Israel will now push into Syria? Sounds like a lot of hot air being wasted. Syria and Hizbullah have to say something to make it appear they won they might even convince a lot of Arabs that it is so...but come on people look around and do the math! Didn't Egypt tell teach that they won the Yom Kippur War? To quote, ' oh what fools these mortals be...'
89. Bahsar, The pleasure will be all ours.
malcolm ,   NYC   (08.15.06)
If only Israel got the green light to shut this weak, pathetic, imbocile up. He's even more pathetic than Olmert, Peretz, Livni & Halutz combined. If it does lead to this Damascus will be toast. I will get a personal pleasure in seeing Damascus airport , the porhole of terror, turned into a smoldering heap.
90. While......
Ram ,   London   (08.15.06)
While Assad can talk all the C**p he likes and the arab world and those posting here delude themselves to be victorious, the fact remains that thanks to Olmert & Company 116 young boys are lost to their families. For what? As I post this I read that Hizbullah are re-organizing convinced, with the help of Syria and Iran, they have the underbelly of Israel in sight. All this thanks to the incompetence of an ill chosen leadership. History has shown how wars should be fought. The over application of morality to a totally immoral foe has brought Israel this result. Israel should stop caring what the anti-semitic EU think or say or the supposed US ally dictates when it fights for its existence. Round 2 is fast approaching. Have ANY lessons been learned?
