6. Assad and Syria
Every time I read comments such as this one that Assad and the current Syrian regime are better than Islamic fundamentalists taking over in Syria and opening another front I think that Israelis are unconsciously being blinded. It is true that in the Golan heights Israel had 32 years of calm but WHO do the Israelis believe opened up the South of Lebanon front with Hezbollah armed to the teeth??. Certainly not the Lebanese govt. (at least willingly). It is hypocritical of Israel to say the devil we know is better than the one we don't when the devil you know is behind all your troubles in Lebanon. Taking out Damascus , a much easier task than Hezollah, since Syria is surrounded by pro-American countries will resolve the Hezbollah issue. Given that Syria is a sunnite majority (unlike the current Alawite majority) it will not fall under the Iranian influence and the Arab countries such as Saudi, Egypt and Jordan will not give money for rearmament but more likely will push them for peace with Israel. Assuming worst case scenario they are Sunni fundamentalists Syria is a poor country and without Iran cannot wage war.
Israel has tried dealing with Assad and it is this relationship that has created both Hezbollah and Hamas yet Israel keeps protecting Assad. Makes no sense.
A Lebanese fed up and wanting peace.

8. Syria thinks time is ripe
to get back the Golon Heights. THey lost it in a war they initiated! now because Hezbollah held out for 5 weeks, it thinks it sees a crack in the Israeli's armor. Israel needs to dispel this misconception , quickly!
the old adage may come to haunt us, Israel can only lose once, and I would add, to be precieved to have lost once is to enbolden the wolves on the borders.

10. Start war with Syria NOW!!
Do not let Syria bleed Israel to death.. This is only the prelude, once he gets the weapons from the russians with which to do a good job, he will do so, take him now....
Why not? What is the likely outcome of a failed state in the region? They would perhaps find it difficult to train and send so many terrorists in three directions? (Iraq/Lebanon/Turkey). Face it, Assad is the true danger in the region right at the present time..

12. ?
What the hell is going on? It is clear that Syria has been negotiatin with Israel and the US from a long time - and I think Lebanon paid the price and Nasrallah was deceived. Now it is all starting to show. Iran will continue her unranium plan, syria will be let off the hook for a number of past matters. And who got fucked up in the process? Our country.

13. Wooing Syria
Will somebody please explain how Assad can make a deal with Israel that cripples Hezbullah and betrays Iran and survive politically? Or survive physically, for that matter? Will the Syrian army fight for Assad against Hezbullah and other Shiite Iranian surrogates? Assad would have every temptation to take whatever he could get from Israel while interfering as little as possible with Iran's resupplying Hezbullah.
And what if Israel gives away the Golan in exchange for a treaty with Syria, and Assad's Hezbullah-backed successor lets Hezbullah or Hamas "borrow" it as Hezbullah "borrowed" southern Lebanon? Israel then finds itself at war with Syria anyway, except that now it has formally yielded the disputed territory. I'm no expert, but this doesn't make sense.

20. Arab ignorance and distortioin of historical facts.
“Israel must understand that it cannot continue to forcefully conquer territories.”
It might be interesting to know for some Arabs and notorious critics of Israel that Israel did not "forcefully conquer" territories, but was vicious attacked by Arab states. Without Arab agression Israel wouldn't have conquered those territories!
But of course, as foolishly as the current governments of Israel act, they will, sooner or later, surrender to terror and give up even the Golan Heights. And afterwards they will be surprised that there will be no peace! I am constantly praying that there will never be another uprooting of Jewish communities, be it on the Golan or in Yesha.

22. = rewarding extortion
If this is actually tried and succeeds, it suggests that Assad couldn't care less about Jews and Israelis - he's just an otherwise ineffectual little boy who wants to be the team leader in a big-boy game.
|
|
23. Libneniyyeh: Wooing Syria
You're absolutely right. Assad is up to his eyeballs with Iran. The Iranians came to his rescue when he was most vulnerable (when he lost Lebanon). He owes them big time. He also knows he can't get out of this relationship and survive.
|
|
24. ISRAEL NEEDS A STRONGER GOVERNMENT
Nothing will happen with Syria until Israel has a stronger government. Barak failed at Geneva in 2000 because his government was too weak to give Syria its basic "red line" condition, which was the same deal Egypt got, namely return of every bit of land taken in 1967.
Will the Israeli people accept Syria on Lake Kinneret? Barak felt he couldn't sell that to Israelis, and that's why negotiations failed in 2000.
Surely the present government is in no position to give back to Syria Lake Kinneret.
The only chance would be is Assad would feel he is forced to take back less than the complete Golan.

25. 15 - that's exactly the point
if the arab mk's are vehemently anti-israel and wish nasrallah a long life and success against israel, why would assad, of all people, change his feeling about israel even if israel gave back the golan and treated him as well as the arab mk's?
if anyone has an answer to that, i'd like to hear it.

26. Why Assad, why now?
Mark my words, written in stone....."Why Assad why now" because the US says so. Because Israel is the canary in the coal mine to the plan (warped fantasy) that by making peace (phony) with Syria the ME will be stable. Never mind Syria do nothing. Never mind Syria has thus far been untouched by the current administration. Yes, it all lies on Israel all the time.
Go do googles and see the suggestions for Israel making peace with Syria and they come from the current administration and their state department.
But never mind........
Ok. So we see how stable the PA is. They went to the polls and voted overwhelmingly for Hamas. Terror is worse in the PA then ever. Not billions of dollars and tons of white paint for whitewashing have changed the PA. It is worse because the true road to freedom and democracy must be earned not given. This is why the PA will never change. There is no will. There is no will because the world has been co-dependant to their drunkenness,(terror) offering them one excuse after another.
Ok. On to Lebanon. They want peace too yet Foud Sinoria says the following:
"I thank the Honorable Hassan Nasrallsh for his efforts, and I thank all those who are sacrificing their lives for Lebanon's independence."
The supposed lover of freedom and supposed lover of Lebanon's independence, Faud Sinoria does not have the balls the inner will to rid themselves of Hezbollah proclaiming loud and strong they will not disarm Hezbollah just like the PA will not disarm Fatah, Al-aqsa, Hamas, Islamic Jihad of terror. Yet the western governments fool themselves that by giving to them through sacrifices of Israel and billions of dollars they magically will embrace freedom. Tell me, how can one have freedom with Hezbollah running the show?
This folks means both supposed leaders not only harbor and incubate terror (goes against the Bush doctrine) but lack the will to take the correct steps toward democracy. But hey, I guess those who harbor and incubate terror in relation to Syria, Lebanon and the PA is not the same in the eyes of the west as those who harbor and incubate terror other places. Yah, right.
Here is the rub in this whole lie and it lies within Syria, the supposed trump card to bring peace to the ME.
The west is not only delusional on fighting terror but even more delusional on the continuation of using Israel to bring some kind of magic to the ME. The magic is ridding terror completely from those countries who harbor terror.
Once and for all! Then the west can come to the aid of those people.
Until our leaders in the West take out the terror harboring leaders and their followers there will never be peace. Never.
BTW: Just heard Bush talking about the Lebanon war. This is what he said:
Hezbollah is bad. Lebanese want Freedom.
Israel has the right to self defense yet they must always exercise restraint and caution.
This is why the overall war on terror can never be won. We must stop propping up terror harboring regimes simply because they lack the will. And for the love of G-d the world must untie the hands of Israel and let them wage their legitimate war on terror. Israel is not the canary in coal mine nor the heart of a false equation that through Israel there can be peace. Israel is not the canary in the coal mine nor the whore to the world for grand schemes that will fail time and time again. There is no peace not because of Israel but because those who reside in the ME want the total destruction of Israel. By Israel sacrificing without the total legitimate sacrifice of her neighbors, there will never be a moment of peace. NEVER!!
Land for peace, money for peace, prisoner release for peace, lying for peace, false legitimization for peace, being used and abused for peace DID NOT BRING PEACE!!!

27. Assad and the peace equation
Israel wants peace. Her neighbors do not. The true test for peace does not lie any longer on the shoulders of Israel but the shoulders of her neighbors who hate us.
Israel has done everything humanly possible at great sacrifice and her neighbors have done NOTHING.

30. to #20 Jewish historical Ignorance? or the usual propaganda?
If you take the time to educate your self abit and try, for an example, getting a copy of a promonent Jewish Oxford-historian's book called " the Iron Wal" written by Prof. Avi Shlaim, you wil find:
1- The Arabs NEVER initiated ANY attacks against the State of Israel EXCEPT for the 1973 war.
2- You will find that EVEN president Nasser was conducting secret negotiaions with Israel in Paris at the highest level to avoid war and Israel was aware that his rhetoric aginst Israel was just that: a rhetoric for internal consumption.
3- You will find that in 1949, immediately after Israel was decalred a state, the then president of Syria named Zaim, offered Israel FULL Peace treaty with diplomatic, economic ties AND ABSORBING ALL THE PALESTINIAN REFUGEES!!!
But of course this book was written in English and MOST Israelis like you are IGNORANT to read in English.I hope this will educate you a bit so next time no one would call you ignorant
