Every country all the world round can get supplies of nuclear material for its nuclear power stations from know-how holders, e.g. USA, Russia, China. There is no reason for Iran to build a nuclear programs. The only reason is to make nuclear weapons of its own. It cannot be allowed to. Iran simply will have to fit to the opinion of international demand. There is no other way but an action propotionated to such a great threat. Iranian establishment are Moslem fanatics. Independent sanctions? This is proof that this entire situation has nothing to do with the International Community's opposition against Iran's peaceful nuclear activity. No, the Middle East will NOT be more safe. The "balance" will simply encourage Iran to be even more belligerent. Furthermore, Iran will not have a second strike capability. This means that if it fears an attack, it will have to launch its nukes preemptively. Israel will know this, and therefore it will tend to launch a preemptive counterforce strike against Iran. I believe the "logic" behind those who believe a "nuclear Iran" makes the worlds / ME a safer place is based on the old "balance of power" theory of international power relationship. I don't think anyone would deny that that Israel represent the predominant military power in the Middle East, and is not hesitant to use it from time to time. A good example might be the improvement in relations, still far to go, between Pakistan and India once they had achieved "nuclear status". Sometime it's surprising how sobering it becomes when a country actually has the nuclear option and the means to deliver. But I'm sure many don't trust Iran to sober up. We may have not have any other good option but to wait and see.
