Ram ,   London   (08.29.06)
Torah values are desperately needed in the everyday life of every Israeli citizen. It is encouraging to see the door being open to individuals who do not have to face the pressure of becoming orthodox.

looks like Ive lost the plot; how can they study the texts, observe Shabbat, etc. and yet not be interested in religion. What is the aim?
7. I guess that Northern Tel Aviv
D G Tal   (08.29.06)
wouldn't let them in. Come to think of it, morality, decency, family and traditon etc would really be a bit much for them to take in Sushi -land. What next ? Latte made with parve milk in Basel/ take my foto on your cellfone and send me half naked and grinning like an idiot to yediot back page and ynet country?
8. A Positive First Step
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (08.29.06)
In helping the holy city of Tel Aviv become holier and the holy nation of Israel become holier. Learning Torah and doing chessed- even if it isn't 100% "lishma", is better than not doing them; which is the case now. And I hope that Rav Bin-Nun and the others can have a positive effect as well.
9. Re: Secular Yeshiva is misnomer. Go to Hesder instead.
Binyomin ,   Israel   (08.29.06)
Skip the secular nonsense. If these students want to learn TaNach, Gemara and Halacha and also fight for IDF, let them go to HESDER YESHIVOT. At least at Hesder they will receive true yiddishe education with the goal to keeping the mitzvot. After all, "MORE THAN THE JEWS HAVE SHABBAT, THE SHABBAT HAS KEPT (WATCHED OVER) THE JEWS". Secularism has been the downfall of modern state of Israel. Time to get back to basic Taryag Mitzvot, ie. not just learning, but doing them. Then, maybe our gov't will have proper direction and not behave like the goyim or be at beck and call of other nations.
10. to #9 ----- hareidim Keeping Shabbat
Doug ,   Tel-Aviv   (08.30.06)
from a sticker: "More than the hareidim have kept Shabbat, I have kep (watched over) the Shin Gimmel (army Guard Duty) "!!!

1) they differ army service for one year and then do FULL army service, like the shiluv track and not hesder; 2) the aim is judaism our culture in Israel, for all our Jewish citizens;
